Prepp3d Views: Peripheral Distortion Correction

295x2 is a dual GPU in a single card.

 

Yes but those two GPUs are connected internally via Crossfire.

Patiently waiting for Denali's patch/program/hack....I have one projector right now, but planning to project to about ~120 degrees. The program would be very helpful without having to resort to two computers + edge blend.

 

FYI - Immersive Display Pro works with one projector fine.

 

Why would you need IDPro with just 1 view ?

 

I tried their trial to correct one wide view ( nvsurround with 3 screens ) but was never able to get it right.

When not moving it looked great...

Why would you need IDPro with just 1 view ?

I need IDP because I will be projecting on a curve screen, not a flat screen. I still need to distort the image, and have a good FOV.

The fix was a beta.

Corrected it perfectly, but was a little grainy.

 

Try with 3 undocked views.

Unlike pre v3.2 versions, v3.2 has an improved multi monitor support.

 

I now fly with 3 views, one main + two undocked views, and the framerate hit compared to NVSurround is just 15-20% now.

Before it was 40-50% framerate loss with each undocked view...

 

Give it a try.

Just found an interesting article about the new "SMP - Simultaneous Multi-Projection" technology of the upcoming nvidea graphics cards. That will solve the problem?

 

It does indeed solve the problem, but I don't know if it does for P3D out of the box.  P3D might have to utilize this feature in order for it to work properly.  

 

 

 


Not sure if you all saw this recent release from the makers of IDPro...
 

The same goes for this. 

 I have version of my shader where I use Reshade as the injector for the shader, but that brings distortion into the P3D menu system.  My first iterations were using the PostProcess shader system in P3D, but I was not able at that time to access a good antialiasing method.   Which is why I tried with much success to use Reshade to get perfect clarity.  But then ran into the menu system issues.  I think their product may cause the same issues in P3D.  I will try it when I get a chance (not likely soon, got hit by a Semi today ... yes, for real)


Both of those look like very well done products.   The future is bright.  But if they don't apply to P3D right now, I do have the solution, just not the clarity of mind (time) to follow through on it immediately.  Chaos never ends here for some reason.

Waited for something like this forever, my 3 screens are now replaced by a Dell ultrawide. I still wonder if this would help with stretching on the edges still. Anyways thank you for the heads up, if I happen across a few extra thousand maybe I will get 2 more ultrawides and another GPU or 2 :P

 

Edit; in a somewhat related but not really question, how is perspective correction on the VR solutions out there?

 It's not really an issue.  Depends on what device you are using somewhat, but they follow conventions already established.  NVidia is also using their SMP pipelines to speed up the VR lensing process.   It's actually what it was originally intended for in the current processors, the core structure exists in them.  But they rebranded it in this new GPU coming out by adding a few new algorithms, another evolution/extension of the same concept applied to mutliple displays, instead of just lensing speed.

 

 

I just took a few minutes to look at the LCD Designer Pro thingy setup guide, and it has specific instructions for Prepar3d and FSX.  It also says it requires their Immersive Display PRO (version v1.9r5 or later) product, which will cost $170 American.  So I can see why I should finish what I started.  They probably stole my algorithm, so I'm going to steal their milkshake.  I have published it in the wild prior to so no claims can be made.  If you can spend the money it's probably a worthy addition though, the distortion has always been so incredibly irritating to me all this time (having spent a chunk of my life in CAD or putting graphite to paper in perspectives)

Hey denali, I hope you are doing OK. I posted the same question on a Prepar3d forum and this is the answer from Beau (Prepar3D Rendering System Lead):

 

"SMP could potentially allow the use of 3 views rather than 1 to fill your 3 monitors with a much smaller performance hit. It will be interesting to see SMP will be configured and how much work would be necessary to use it in an engine. Describing the physical size, shape, and layout of all connected displays is a fairly complex task for end users. If GPU drivers can provide a standard way to do this, it will be much easier for graphics engines to adopt these techniques. I can't comment on if/when we might support SMP, but it's encouraging to see NVidia focusing on this area as VR and multi-monitor use-cases are important to us. On a side note, there are single-pass multi-projection techniques that work in DirectX11 on current gen hardware, and perform reasonably well. In fact, we have used a form of single-pass multi-projection for rendering our shadow maps since Prepar3D v2."

 

So, there is hope and I think they will work on it as soon as the hardware and the drivers are out.

Nobody stole you algorithm. It is just what Fly Elise-ng is developing for more that 5 years. The Fly Elise-ng software in calculating the needed geometrical correction and edge blending for multi projection setups in order to get 100% geometrically correct views on all display surfaces. 

Next to calculating the correct view orientation and zoom factor (FOV) (based on the physical position, orientation and size of the displays surfaces) , also an amount of warping (image correction) is needed to get the correct view that 100% matches the reality. That's why Immersive Display PRO is needed.

All the efforts and all tools available so far do not address this.  

 

So, I believe an apology is appropriate in this case because we are not using any bit of your algorithms because they are just not correct.

One wide view gives better framerates than 3 seperate views.

 

I now use 3 seperate outside views for 1 wide view , so no distortion.

P3Dv3.2 has improved multi monitor support and 3 views now have the same performance as 2 views prior v3.2.

 

Does you programm connect 3 views to 1 and then corrects the distortion through ID Pro ?

( so about the same performance as 1 wide NVSurround view )
