I was trying to understand what this thing does and it says."FSInn is a software created by passionate persons for the passionate simmers of flights on networks. With the essort of the various networks and the complexity of the sometimes too risky installations, FSInn is the ideal tool of simmers wishing to go to an even more realistic world while taking advantage of the conviviality and the quality of the given instruments and the simplicity of functioning of the software.FSInn has been written to match the template the virtual pilots have ever wished by bringing a new breath thanks to the interactions between the simulator and the multi-players aspect : display and moves of planes near you, smoothing. To allow all PC configurations to fly with the same pleasure, of course everything is customizable. Finally, although possessing completely innovative features, you can install FSInn very easily, to allow to everybody, computer beginners or specialists, to enjoy flying using networks."Huh!.. Who wrote that? Does that have any information that I can use to understand what it does?

yes, but it's not complete. Someone in France is too good at marketing mumbo jumbo and not good enough at giving information :)It's an equivalent program to SB3, and fully compatible with the FSD servers used on VATSIM.Easier to use, more userfriendly, and supposedly more stable as well.Biggest advantage: you aren't stuck with the SB3 window permanently overlaid on your FS screen.

>Biggest advantage: you aren't stuck with the SB3 window permanently >overlaid on your FS screen. Not a big deal for me - I run SB3 separately on a laptop - only have the little transponder in FS showing - which I move off to the side - just enough to click the buttons and see the status. SB3 works great for me - I have downloaded FSINN - but installed SB3 first. It's so easy to use and with my 2 PC setup , good with frame rates too. From what I have read - FSINN is directly connected over the net with other users - good for close formation flying.Still haven't tried it though - I love my SB3 and see no need to try FSINN (yet - I probably will sometime) :)SB3 also has an extremely helpful group on their forums and a large number of experienced users.regards,Kelly

yea like me, ive been an online addict to VATSIM / SATCO from the early days, since FS98!i only perhaps fly 1% offline.;-)

I'm sure FSini or what ever it's called is very good. But, I think I speak for a lot of people I have 2 issues;1 I don't often use Freeware as you pay for what you get in life and if you don't pay for quality and service you don't get it. Yes once in a while you get something for nothing but most of the time there is SOME cost. For example Freeware Mesh normally has not paid attention to coastlines and inland water lakes and there are "holes"But even if this product was brilliant and worked without cost and wihout flaws then I've got the next issue which is my main concern.I've gone to this site and read tons of stuff and I just have no idea what any of it's doing? I am new to on-line ATC and use both Vatsim and IVAO as most of the time service is poor in one region or another. So as a newbie in ATC and reading this FS ini stuff, the name fogettable and seems unrelated to the product, I go there and get tottaly confused.I don't know of anyone using this stuff and I don't understand what it's for? Again, if it was payware then this side of things would be well explained in concise easy to grasp language and would therefore have added value at least to me. I would be well "sold" the reason why I needed it and guess what. I'd probably buy it.Peter

Just to clear this up.FSInn is one of two clients (the other is Squawkbox 3) that will get you online with Vatsim. Both are approved by Vatsim. I have both installed and as far as I can tell they both work well. Up to your personal preference. As for what to do online, that is a much more complicated question and one that will require you to study and practice. You can start off by reading the information in the Vatsim Pilots Resource Centre (PRC).Mark.

Since you are a, self proclaimed, newbie to online flying, instead of suggesting that FSinn should turn commercial so as to have a clearer readme, do yourself a favour and go to www.vatsim.net to get the big picture. Your reservations in respect of free stuff are noted, nevertheless I assure you these people take the whole thing very seriously. They even have a Board of Governors, regional Directors and everything :-eek A short introduction: There exists a network of servers(aka the VATSIM network) to which people connect. These people either play the role of ATC or that of pilots to simulate flying in a controlled airspace. How do you connect to this network? That's right, you use FSinn or Squawkbox. www.squawkbox.ca is the homepage for squawkbox. The website's english is clear and concise and you will find out many things about the program and online flying in general. There's even an online manual. Can you imagine that for a freebie... :-roll ? Start FS, start one of the two programs, fill in your personal details and hit the connect button. Once connected, file your flight plan, talk to the local controller for your clearance, and go flying. Quarter final tip: Prepare to study a lot.Semi final tip: download servinfo to see how many people are connected to the network at any time and where is the ATC.Final tip: Don't get "sold" to stuff just because its payware.(sorry about the quarter final, semi final thing. Its the european basketball final four season)

And your point? You're not using it BECAUSE it's free? First time I've ever heard that argument outside of a multinational corporation. Can you tell us what commercial product you're using to connect to vatsim and ivao? I think the network admins at both would love to hear that as neither network allows you to connect with software they don't explicitly approve and AFAIK neither network has ever approved a commercial product for that purpose. It's good, even if it is french. In fact it's better than SB3 IMO (which is french Canadian :) and also free).

There is a common misconception that freeware is always inferior. This simply isn't the case. Whilst some freeware is of limited quality, other freeware examples meet payware standards! Look at Milton Shupe's freeware Aero Commanders, the iFDG planes, and many others :)

>Not a big deal for me - I run SB3 separately on a laptop ->only have the little transponder in FS showing >if you uncheck flight simulator transponder in the sb3 menu, youwon't have to move it off-screen :)see here -> http://squawkbox.ca/doc/features/transponder.phptataJP.

Since I was an active real world ATP at the time I began flying FS95. When FS98 came out and I tried it the "unrealism" was so bad I simply quit. At the suggestion of a couple of people I bought FS2004 just to try it. I think it's very good.BUT... I had no idea the things available with VATSIM were possible with FS9. This is a whole new world. Looking at the pic further up in this thread depicting flights in Australia simply amazes me... and the idea that one can interact with ATC, and other aircraft is way beyond what I thought possible.I have been back simming and scouring this forum for a couple of weeks now. Several of the members have been extremely helpful and kind. I am thankful for each one who has given me input or advice... and for those who comment on little known aspects of a particular subject. I learn something new every time I browse here. I can see I have a long way to go. This could take more time and effort than a real "job"!I have purchased the PMDG 737NG, Aeroworx B200, ESDG Citation IISP, RealityXP's Meridian and DF A36. This will be my hangar fleet. I'm going to be busier than a one-armed paper hanger... just reading and digesting the documentation.Haven't loaded any of these aircraft yet, I'm afraid I'd spend all my time mangling metal. I also purchased a couple of TweakFS modules to help with the genav stuff.Freeware, as evidenced by those who have become addicted to Linux and the thousands of great professional+ programs available there, is not to be undersold.I've downloaded FSInn and the accompanying docs. As soon as I get in the left seat again I'll search out this flying community.

In fact it's better than SB3>IMO (which is french Canadian :) and also free).>And your source for SB3 being French Canadian?
