April 30, 200521 yr Jeroen, the issue you note is that running the Trainer alongside Flight Simulator, is not the same as having the Trainer running from the Reality XP solution. When you run the Trainer and Flight Simulator, well, you are just doing so with all limitations. When the Trainer is running automatically from the Reality XP GNS solution, it is wrapped and dynamically adjusted inside a shell: Gns Core XP which is documented in the User's Manual, as well as on this page:http://www.reality-xp.com/products/GNS/index.htmFrom the page:========================================================Best-in-Class Simulation: GnsCore XP GnsCore XP is our unique technology that integrates with the Garmin Series Trainer program. This allows us to offer extended simulation and control capabilities to the GPS within Flight Simulator programs. GnsCore XP unpacks the 16 bits Trainer program from its 16 bits windows components while they are running in memory and wraps the GNS Simulation components in a Win32 shell.GnsCore XP offers key enhancements to the solution: *Increased stability.*Minimizes overhead by just running what is required.*Intel Hyper Threading optimizations.*Precise and direct control of any GNS simulation core parameters.*Avionics Electric Bus interface (cold and dark cockpits are now supported!).*Interface to our new Reality XP Avionics Bus Driver for Cross fill between GNS units and Avionics data exchange between other Avionics products.*Possibility to run more than one Trainer at the same time on the same computer.========================================================This is impossible to get ALL these advantages when running the Trainer alone. It has to be experienced with the v2005 of the GNS. What you mention (running the Trainer alone and Flight Simulator alongside is simply not relevant).Besides, the latest Avsim review, and the reports on the DreamFleet and Reality XP forums show that there is almost NO FPS impact in running the new GNS 2005, even when running dual GNS at the same time on the same panel! Let me add that a dual v2005 GNS configuration runs better and faster (less FPS hit) that the default FS9 GPS, or any derivative. (they are all coded in XML and they inherently take more CPU than running the Trainer in the background...)Jeroen, I think I remember from other forum posts that you are running Windows 2000, that the latest avsim survey shows as being used by only 5% (1 year ago already...) of us at Avsim.com and I understand you can not savour the latest GNs v2005 yet on your system to its full potential. However, I can assure you that on Windows XP, it runs very very smooth and fine, and that any remnence of the v2.x issues with the Trainer are definitely a thing of the past, for what is rated in reviews as an unmatched GNS simulation on Flight Simulator.Hope this helps!
April 30, 200521 yr Ron,"While many folks are aware of the 16 bit issues you mention"I think this is fairly innacurate. There are no 16 bit issues with v2005, although there was SOME issues with the solution prior v2005 (not many). Things are GREATLY improved since the initial introduction of the Reality XP GNS simulation!I wonder what you mean by "maintaining an affordable price point", but I think the DreamFleet A36 offers very good value, includes 2 Reality XP gauges, and is sold for only $24.95. Are you considering releasing the Cirrus under the $24.95 price point?Hope this helps!
April 30, 200521 yr Author Jean-Luc, as you know we try to be accurate with our statements and feel that the feedback we receive, though certainly not scientific, provides a fairly accurate feel re: the 16 bit issue with RXP V2005 and Win XP Home Edition. I have experienced it myself and know for a fact that it exists even though it's quite intermittant on my own system??We are NOT saying here that we know everything about the 16 bit issue, simply saying that the issue exists for some users and we would think that your own user feedback system would provide a more accurate picture to you of what's happening than we could ever provide from the small sampling that comes our way:-) We agree with you 100% that RXP V2005 is indeed "GREATLY improved since the initial introduction of the Reality XP GNS simulation!":-)While we cannot and would not pretend to speak for/or to RXP or Dreamfleet about "price points" we feel that the A36 is and would be a bargain at a quite a bit higher "price point":-)My statement about "price points" was in the context of what we feel is right for our own design philosophy and has no bearing on what RXP or Dreamfleet do now or in the future. No.:-)
April 30, 200521 yr So if we get into trouble and have to deploy the CAPS, will we have to buy a new plane from you guys? :-lol :-lol
April 30, 200521 yr Buy a new one? I thought Eaglesoft would come out, retrieve the plane and fix it up for us again! :-hah
April 30, 200521 yr Author >So if we get into trouble and have to deploy the CAPS, will>we have to buy a new plane from you guys? :-lol :-lolHa ha, this was brought up jokingly by a user in our forums and another suggested that we should require a new purchase after CAPS deployment so as to be "as real as it gets"We had a great laugh over it but to answer your question there is a "reset gauge" that is used after landing to "Reset" the chute for your next flight:-lol
April 30, 200521 yr >Thats right, Steve Small does excellent work along with Ron>Freimuth and the guy who's name escapes me but did the FDE for>the Dream Fleet A36:-) >I'm sure there are others but these are the ones we are>familiar with:-)>I just noticed this regarding the freeware version, and the other thread:"I only have a couple of quirks with otherwise excellent freeware release. For one, at least for me, the extending/retracting the flaps cause quite violent pitching oscillations. I'd be surprised if the real plane was like this." I KNOW that I count count on flight models from the ones mentioned above, as well as Rob Young (RealAir Simulations) who is programming flight dynamics for the EagleSoft Cirrus. That's what you "pay" extra for, considering it took years for these people to develop the talent; and it's those little quirks that get ironed out.BTW --- DreamFleet FDE is by Alexander MetzgerL.Adamson
April 30, 200521 yr Ron if you run the latest GNS version and the one before you can see a different visual behaviour in the trainner that indicates a difference in the approach to it. Also it's a false question looking in to the CPU load. Do this: Run FS in full screen, minimize it, call task manager check the NTVDM load and FS load. Switch FS to Window mode and maximize. Do the same load check again. What you should see is an adaptative behaviour in the CPU load.If you have VS do this with SPY++ to get a better view.Jos
April 30, 200521 yr Author L.Adamson wrote: That's what you "pay" some extra for sometimes, considering it took years for these people to develop the talent. You've said it better than we ever could...talented and skilled people do require a return on their time and skill despite those who would try to deny them that right. Our apology to Mr. Metzger for forgetting his name earlier:-)
April 30, 200521 yr Author Jose,Please ask Jeroen about his statements suggesting the Garmin Trainer causes issues with HIS system. We answered ONLY the 16 bit issue, of which we receive a small amount of feedback from users...I've been running the latest version RXP units for quite some time now and do experience the 16 bit issue that others have reported but what is strange to me at least is that it is intermittent in nature at least on my system??It should be noted that the 16 bit issue referred to here is NOT a showstopper for my system...just reporting that it exists for some.
April 30, 200521 yr Ron,if you have a problem, Reality XP Technical Support is aclaimed to be very helpful, if you take the time to contact them first...
April 30, 200521 yr Author Jean-Luc, as mentioned the issue is not a showstopper on my machine therefore I didn't report it to you all.....will though very soon:-)
