November 29, 201411 yr I hope this isn't a problem with the plane itself because I don't want to have to send another ticket...sometimes when I am starting the engines engine 2 won't start. Engine 1 will start fine, and then when I move to engine 2 the only thing that will move is the EGT to about 300 and then decreasing to about 100. The n1 just remains at 0.0. I have tried restarting the apu, figiting with the air conditioning, stopping engine one and then starting with engine 2, starting with engine 2, etc., but nothing works. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Any help is much appreciated. You generally start engine 2 first, actually. My thought is that you have the ISOL VALVE in the AUTO position. This isn't correct. PACKS OFF ISOL VALVE OPEN ENGINE START SWITCH (usually engine two first) GND Wait for max motoring or 25% (by Boeing guideline) - FUEL CUTTOFF SWITCH IDLE Monitor engine until stable Repeat for other engine This would have been answered for you in tutorial number two. Please do both tutorials. They will answer a lot for you. If you do nothing else (like read the manuals), please at least do the tutorials. This is a study sim. It's going to require some reading/effort on your part to get it to work properly. Kyle Rodgers
November 30, 201411 yr The n1 just remains at 0.0. You should be watching N2. Fuel ON at 20% or maximum motoring (usually above 20% N2). Ditto Kyle: RTFM Dan Downs KCRP
November 30, 201411 yr Commercial Member Fuel ON at 20% or maximum motoring (usually above 20% N2). The 20% thing may vary by airline SOP, but it's actually 25% by Boeing (though, looking at the verbiage, it's easy to see why the 20% thing gets tossed around so much - this is from http://www.b737.org.uk/powerplant.htm because I don't have the manuals in front of me): "Min 25% N2 (or 20% N2 at max motoring) to introduce fuel; any sooner could result in a hot start. Max motoring is when N2 does not increase by more than 1% in 5 seconds." Kyle Rodgers
December 1, 201411 yr Take a screenshot of your overhead panel at the stage where you are about the turn the engine over that won't start.

December 1, 201411 yr All above is correct. N2 % between 20-25 will work and the engines can be started with ISOL valve in AUTO Position. One thing missing in Kyle's list as no. 3 is APU Bleed ON. Michael Gadeberg
December 1, 201411 yr Commercial Member One thing missing in Kyle's list as no. 3 is APU Bleed ON. Good point. I'd assumed that's how he was getting the first one started, but it's better to mention it than it is to assume. Thanks for the addition. Kyle Rodgers
December 9, 201411 yr Author Actually to be quite honest with you I actually was looking up what screen had the engine start stuff on it, I had been watching quite a few video tutorials on how to start up the plane and was really just hitting the switches and then look at whatever engine is there and go to the top one, because I know that is the one that should be moving...also I usually try and start engine 2 up first, but it gives me the same type of problem until I move to number 1, which once again starts up fine..I will definitely try and check the ISOL valves though...if it is not that, it is most likely because I reinstalled fsx(which for some reason doesn't mess with the aircraft folder) and didn't reinstall PMDG. I have been getting a lot of problems with the PMDG anyways, right now I am just being lazy. So I will try some of that out...
