December 23, 201411 yr I've read the HIGHMEMFIX fix is no longer needed, but what about some of the other common FSX.cfg tweaks like ForceWindowedVsync=1 under [Graphics], WideViewAspect=True under [Display], AffinityMask=14 under [JobScheduler], and BufferPools=0 ? I haven't come across any discussion of these wrt FSX-SE.cfg. Does the use of a modern compiler eliminate the need for the AffinityMask tweak? Has Steam put out any info on what they have "fixed"? Thx, Al
December 23, 201411 yr If you want to make the sim more unstable and not get any significant benefits, go right ahead.
December 23, 201411 yr The usual commands won't make it more or less stable, jabloom. It's the same game. You'll get the same results. And WideViewAspect= True is a must since pretty much everyone is using a widescreen now Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."
December 23, 201411 yr I've continued to see a good benefit from using:- [bufferPools] UsePools=0 RejectThreshold=524288 .......in FSX:SE .....but it's depenent on your graphics card and your own configuration. I've also put:- [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=84 ....into my FSX_SE.CFG file. No other tweaks. David Bourne
December 23, 201411 yr I currently have added [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=2 andHIGHMEMFIX=1 (decided just to put it in anyway, no harm done) ForceWindowedVsync=1 I have a pretty low end machine, and I'm getting locked 30fps
December 23, 201411 yr LOD has to be manually reseted to more then 4.5 i7 4777k 4.6mhz, 32gddr3, GTX 760 4g sci ,Saitek x52,yoke and quadrant, 60 Led . SSD
December 23, 201411 yr Author I appreciate all the viewpoints and information -- thx. Since tweaks are often particular to one's own system, my feeling at this point is that since my hardware has not changed, system tuning that helped with the regular FSX system might be useful to try with FSX-SE unless there is specific info to the contrary. I find FSX-SE brings a little hope for the future. FSX itself was in a stagnant situation, and now, based on some posts between one of the FSX-SE developers and Pete Dowson on the FSUIPC forum, we can look forward to continuing FSX-SE improvements down the road. And maybe a reduced need for tweaks! Al
December 23, 201411 yr The AffinityMask thread actually yielded a bit of a boost for me, as did BufferPools with an appropriate RejectTreshhold value (128KB) and PoolSize (128MB). The rest is the usual suspects, i.e. number of autogen trees/houses, LOD radius. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
December 23, 201411 yr Just remeber that the "AffinityMask Tweak" is based on the number of CPU cores you have on your computer, so don't copy anyone elses number unless you have the same CPU. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

December 23, 201411 yr Author Mind linking that discussion between Pete and the dovetail rep? Sure, see http://forum.simflight.com/topic/78250-new-fsxsteam-edition-does-not-work-with-fsuipc4/page-3 It is somewhat of a mixed topic thread -- the first post from the FSX-SE developer is post #54, then there are a few more with the last from Pete at #60. December 24, 201411 yr The only tweak I have in FSX:SE is the only tweak I have in FSX too :- [bufferPools] UsePools=0 (along with water settings set to High 2x).
