Another radar gauge for VC & Window usage

Featured Replies

No I do not use oRadGauge but ShellRadGauge.

What you see on the left is the 2D pop up panel of the pedestral undocked and moved to side screen on my extended desktop.

The VC you can see it on the right, on my main screen.

The VC area on the right where on the top of the pedestral there is a cavity for books (manuals) between the two INSs as per real Concorde is the equivalent spot that I use on the 2D panel for the radar. The 2D has the same image of the books (behind your radar).

I tried in VC with both oRadGauge and ShellRadGauge but it does not display at all  because FSLabs do not have a "blank" radar spot there and any (not just your) gauge will not display in VC there. So 2D panel was the only option and this dictated the use of ShellRadGauge as a standalone gauge (not separate 2D window).

I tried it and it works fine as you can see.

These are the settings by the way in Panel.cfg

// Throttle Pedestal Window
[Window05]

gauge18=RolasnRadar!ShellRadGauge, 295    ,05    ,330,    330, sweep|beam|icing

Only problem is the lighting which is the subject of my post.

So taking in to account the above,

1) is there any chance you could change the shell's color for this neat solution so that it matches better ?

2) is there any chance you could brighten up the radar in screen graphics and especially what is now in blue text ?

I forgot to mention that in DAYTIME the radar displays very well and the blue text is readable as can see in the screenshot.

Its at NIGHTTIME that the dynamic part of the gauge (whatever is inside the screen) goes very dark.

Pleeeeaaase Roland !

One of the reasons I ask for the above is because FSLabs have not installed the Weather Radar real Concorde used to have.

The real radar is low and on the side panel below the pilots chair where you cannot see it in front facing view.

They have a dummy radar image there in VC.

Real pilots had to lean down left/right to see/adjust it but for flightsimmers this would be inconvenient anyway and that is why I found this solution in the books area with your Bendix shell radar since in the 2D pedestral window the radar appears nice and in a central location.

About the light subject, can try to declare the ShellRadGauge in its own window (out of Concorde pedestral panel) and see what happen at night?

To declare it, add the following (replace XX by the last + 1) and delete the line in your  [Window05] section

[WindowXX]

size_mm=500,500
zorder=4
gauge00=RolasnRadar!ShellRadGauge, 0,0,,, sweep|beam|icing|nogps

Even though I do not want to use it this way due to lack of screen space for a separate window (during flight I open many 2Ds needed that capture the whole side screen and that are not seen in the screenshot) I will do it for testing reasons and come back here tomorrow.

In the meantime here are two screenshots to compare DAY & NIGHT environment of the radar.

As you can see, at night the radar is a problem.

For your shell color problem I have a solution for you:

- Install Visual Studio community 2013 (or newer) it's free

- Drop the DLL into, it will open the DLL as resources

- Select Bitmap 4098

- Edit the Bitmap along your taste

- Save the DLL

That's it, a 10 minutes job  :smile:

Yes and a huge download with many many attached software to it install-uninstall process !

If only I knew, I needed it for something else and when done I uninstalled it yesterday and then had to clean the registry from thousands of remaining stuff.

OK thanks for that but my main problem is the radar illumination, the shell color I can handle, the radar as it is now at night its unusable !

Roland,

I got the gauge to work in the RealAir TD V2 in P3d 2.5. The trick was to use the GTN 650 as the second gauge and use the same gauge "dimensions" for your radar gauge:

gauge19=F1GTN!GTN750VC, 2,563,390,460,UNIT1
//gauge20=F1GTN!GTN650VC, 3,383,390,175,UNIT1
gauge20=RolasnRadar!ORadGauge, 3,383,390,175, sweep|icing

The only issue is that the radar gauge is somewhat dim and difficult to see. In F1GTN.ini the brightness is set at by default at:

VC Brightness=100

I got this great app to work in Pilatus PC12 VC and I’m very satisfied, thank you very much Roland! However, I would like to replace Turbine Duke’s right hand side GTN750 by weather radar. I found Jay’s topic on that, however, the screen is still black. Could it be like that because I have followed the instructions given by RealAir and installed Turbine Duke outside P3DV3 directory? If so is there anything I can do for that?

Hi,

I'm not sure but I don't think that an external installation could be the cause. I'm using my gauge dll out of P3D root and it load dynamically the ASN module.

However I can't help you furthermore because I don't own the Turbine Duke.

Maybe you can send a MP to Jay.

I replied to his PM. I believe that the aircraft has to be setup first with dual GTN 750 gauges,before substituting the radar gauge. First, one has to use the TD configurator app to set up the panel to support 2 GTN 750 gauges. Only after that, edit panel.cfg.

Yeah it works fine in the duke,,been flying with Roland's gauge for awhile now. That is untill I crashed windows and lost files so now I need to figure it all out again.

This is solved, I was just sloppy and I didn't notice that Jay’s numbers were for GTN 650 and in case of double GTN 750 I have to change the numbers. I’m sorry for my sloppiness!

Firstly, this gauge is an excellent piece of work - thanks !

I am seeing an issue with the Dash-8 freighter however.

For the passenger model, the guage works beautifully when I install it as per the instructions.

But in the freighter model, the radar image comes out maybe one third to one half the size it should be on the screen.

Note that the freighter uses a different ".mdl" file that you download from Majestic, but I would have guessed it used the same VC files as the passenger version.

If inserting an image wasn't so involved now I would include what both versions look like.

Anyone else seeing this ?

Cheers

Jeff

Difficult to answer without a picture, however if it's too small, simply try to increase 3rd (width) and 4th (height) numeric values and see what happens.

Question: you mean you were successful to use the gauge inside the Dash-8 FO glass MFD without any flickering problem (ConeRadGauge)?

Dear Roland this is what it looks at night as a separated 2D pop up.

The screen contents are too dark and unreadable.

Anyway you can make the screen brighter ?

(if any)

Why do I feel you have lost that motivation to keep on working on it ?!

Did/has something ruined your motivation ?

I just ask because you have done excellent work and its a pity to leave it without sensible improvements when they pop up from your users' feedback. Offcourse the sensible or not part is for you to judge.
