Global Textures - GE or FTX?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I haven't flown for about six months because the OC on my 5 year old I7-920 failed back in June. I have a brand new I7-4790k on the way and I'll be back in business soon.

I'm looking at my add on inventory and I am debating whether I should reinstall GE or look at another product. I know ORBX has a product. I want to install the best solution, but I already own 4 GE regions.

I'll typically fly in the US, Caribbean/Latin America, Europe and Mediterranean. I use a lot of common payware airport scenery and I fly airliners.

I do own some ORBX regions, but I doubt I will reinstall them - I HATE switching between textures. I want install and forget - all seasons and all regions.

Should I stick with GE or purchase the ORBX product. Or, Is there something better I missed during my absence?

Thanks!

FTX global is better.

Install the regions and global and then use hybrid mode in FTX central. No more switching required

FTX Global

FTX Global, no competition as far as I'm concerned. I used UTX + GEX for years and that product was great, but that was a long time ago. The combo of Global, Vector and OpenLC is pretty much the best out there for FSX or P3D. It's expensive stuff but it's worth it if youre like me and fly all over the US, Canada and Europe.

FTXG + Vectors + Open LC

I'm with the majority and suggest FTX Global.

The textures are excellent and at a price significantly less than what all of the GEX regions would cost.

An added benefit is that the FTX OpenLC add-on will eliminate much if not all of the repeating landclasses that plague FSX.

Thanks for the advice. A couple questions:

1. So, from what I am hearing, if I buy FTX Global, I can reinstall all of my FTX regions and I will not have to switch between FSX stock, FTX-NA and FTX-AU anymore if I do hybrid? I do have a number of FTX regions. I'd like them all enabled - NA and AU, but I'm willing to skip installing them if I have to keep switching things. It really messes with the scenery config, and I am pretty committed to keeping it nice and clean manually. I'd also like to permanently enable the few airports I have purchased from ORBX.

2. I swore off of UTX years ago. I bought it when it was released and I hated how it didn't play nice with other scenery add ons. I know there have been a number of improvements over the years, but unless a developer develops a UTX version, the problem will never go away. Most add ons are built upon stock FSX scenery and when you start playing with coastlines, you can get some undesired results. It is one of the trade offs with FSX - you fix one thing and you break something else. Since I have no intention of buying only FTX airports in the future, I'm likely to skip Vector. Is FTX Global all that if you don't buy Vector? Removing Vector from the equation, is it still a better choice than installing the 4 GEX regions that I already own?

Thanks everyone!
