February 4, 201511 yr Hey Mitch, I fly even at 15 fps it's fun , yeah it does cause dizziness I am trying it on the laptop have just loaded up Zurich it took hell of a time and almost ate my laptop. @Zurich the memory usage is 7GB I just downloaded the ALPS file myself, Iron, in the last few minutes, and as soon as I end my AVSIM session here...will fire up XPX and head out over them....let's see what my poor old girl can dish out. :Praying: Post Edit: Wow...started off around 12 FPS at the airport...and as you will see...as I headed over towards the Alps proper...my FPS started recovering, to 20-27 FPS! Good stuff,....will post a few more as I do a fly over of the peaks...and let's see what my system can handle...(this is the exact same settings as my Grand Canyon picture shoot, yesterday...). Here is an ALPS shoot starting at Zurich, Switzerland; 1 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJT 2 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJ0 3 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJF 4 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJJ 5 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJS 6 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJm Stunning performance....( for the system loading, considered!) look at those climbing FPS! WOW.....over the ALPS...with clouds...the whole shezam...: ^_^ 7 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJy 8 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJ3 9 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJ8 10 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJC 11 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJO 12 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJV 13 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJp 14 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJA 15 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJk 16 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJ2 17 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RJB If you can match or beat my 6 year old system..then you are good to go ALPS flying...! See ya...have places to go...people to see....
February 4, 201511 yr I am getting 7-9 fps @zurich, this is on the laptop, but once home I will check it on the desktop. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 4, 201511 yr I am getting 7-9 fps @zurich, this is on the laptop, but once home I will check it on the desktop. I am now over the ALPS proper, Iron..and as you can see in my post with added pic content...blowing past 25 FPS on some of the last shots. When I was over large OSM autogen ouput, I was in the 13-20's...but as soon as I cleared that ground cover..and onto the ALPS proper...I went right back up to 20-27 FPS!!! So...the UHD Alps stay...alongside Colorado, Arizona..and the whole UHD enchilada..... Feet doing the two-step dance across the floorboards....and the C377 is a'shakin!
February 4, 201511 yr @Mitch I have not even taken off , maybe I will get around 15-20 over the Alps. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 4, 201511 yr @Mitch I have not even taken off , maybe I will get around 15-20 over the Alps. Then you (in my opinion) will be good to go....have a blast, Iron!

February 4, 201511 yr Well, let me say, that this is NOT the normal behavior of the sim! Usually - for most users and definitely on my system - X-Plane never re-orders the scenery_packs.ini just for the fun of it. There are strict rules, when it touches the scenery_packs.ini (when you add / remove / rename scenery to "Custom Scenery") ... and in all other cases it does not touch it! Andras, Call me stupid. Yes, the scenery_packs.ini is keeping things in the correct order. It is only the listing under "Custom Scenery" that is trying to align itself alphabetically. I took the "a" out and things are flying fine. I believe, however, that my error in not seeing the full picture may be the cause of others having problems with the alignment... or at least thinking they are having problems. As I understand it, it doesn't make any difference how Windows lists it as long as scenery_packs. ini knows how it goes together. Once again, thanks for your help and for your work. John John Wingold

February 4, 201511 yr As I understand it, it doesn't make any difference how Windows lists it as long as scenery_packs. ini knows how it goes together. That is how I understand it as well. What I do is keep the scenery folders in the order that I want them in the scenery_packs.ini by changing the first letter of the folder name accordingly and sort them by name. Then, each time I add new scenery I just delete the scenery_packs.ini file and let it recompile itself. It will recompile itself in the order of your custom scenery folders. No opening and modifying of the scenery_packs.ini needed and if it ever gets corrupted, accidentally deleted, etc. all I have to do is simply open XP and I'm back in business. Here are the shots I posted in Mitch's Grand Canyon Thread. I was getting a solid, smooth 50 FPS in these shots. Sure there isn't much autogen, roads, etc. but still this scenery is demanding. Specs are in my profile. Alpilot has really outdone himself with UHD! Ryan
February 4, 201511 yr What I do is keep the scenery folders in the order that I want them in the scenery_packs.ini by changing the first letter of the folder name accordingly and sort them by name. Actually rjack1282, the thing here is not to delete scenery_packs.ini. Find the new file (zzz.......scenery1) and highlight it and copy it. Then go to the old scenery file. Actually go to the end of the line just above it and place your cursor there and left click and hit enter to create a space below it. Go to the front (left side) of that blank space and paste the .......scenery1 folder there. This should align your new zzz folder just above the old one. Go to the top of the page and click on file and then save. This should do it. After flying, go back and make sure .ini has not changed. As Andras said, it should not - but check anyway. Do not delete scenery_packs.ini after having done this or it will reverse the order. Renaming the folder to auhd instead of uhd seems to work, but this does as well. John John Wingold

As I understand it, it doesn't make any difference how Windows lists it as long as scenery_packs. ini knows how it goes together. Yes John, thats correct. The only - and ultimate - relevant sorting order is the one in scenery_packs.ini ... everything else (what you see in the file system9 is not - anymore - relevant for X-plane (it was only important before XP10.10 .. when there was no scenery_packs.ini)!
