February 9, 201511 yr Can someone with 8 GB and an Intel CPU try this ? I just want to know what is the performance. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 9, 201511 yr I assume you're talking about RAM and not VRAM? @alpilotx warns against trying the UHD unless you have 16GB of RAM. My guess is that it would load and run for a while on the ground but turn into a slideshow once airborne as your swap files bring framerates to their knees and heat up your hard drives trying to keep up. You might try pulling your sliders way back, disable some eye candy, and see if you can get it to work. I just built a new rig for simming and it runs just fine with 32GB of RAM, a 4.8GHz i7-4790K and 4GB VRAM on my GTX-970. Loading times are longer, even with a very fast HD, but framerates are essentially identical to the HD or default mesh. i7-4790K o/c @ 4.8 GHz, Corsair H-110 liquid cooler, 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, MSI Maximus VII Hero mobo Samsung Pro 512 GB SSD Corsair GFX Hydro GTX-1080 8 GB, (2) 4TB hybrid HDs Win 10 (1607), X-Plane 10.51r2 and X-Plane 11.01b1
February 9, 201511 yr I know about the 16 GB thing. I just want to know how would it perform with 8 GB on an Intel CPU. I get around 15 fps on my AMD FX 6300 with 8 GB with everything set to max except Objects to Mega. And it is still wonderfully flyable. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 10, 201511 yr Andras thanks for UHD v1! I recently added a GTX 970 and 8 more GB of ram (16 total) and this stuff is awesome. I'm wondering if you have a link to your lighting settings? I couldn't find anything on your web site. What I use looks great but there's weird haze transition, almost tropical looking between the white and the terrain below... see pic. Thtas surprising and good ... but nevertheless, allow me some curiosity. Are you 100% sure, that UHD gets loaded (I am asking, because its one of the most common user errors ... where people think, they fly HD/UHD ... but instead they still see default/HD scenery because of an installation error)? So, can you please confirm, hat your UHD scenery really gets loaded, by following these short instructions: http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-hd-mesh-scenery-v3/#How-to-know-if-the-installation-was-correct (by the way: I recommend this simple test to everybody else, to make sure, everything is fine ... its easy and quick, and only needs to be done one, if everything is OK). Because I avoid to post screenshots which look goofy ? Well, this is - kind of - a know limitation in the current way things are in X-Plane when it comes to atmosphere and long range visibility .... And as far as I know (and experience), it is usually exaggerated (made worse) by most raleigh/atmosphere tweakings (especially when visibility in weather is set above 40-50 miles). Go below that visibility, and usually this "effect" is far less obvious ... Hi Andras, The reason I feel that UHD is loading is because I have copied the files straight in to Global Scenery folder. It has over written the V3. The other reason is that those areas were pretty well flyable before UHD. But I can definitely do the recommended steps once i am home. The other thing i wanted to know from you is the memory usage. I used task manager and checked X plane memory usage for UHD it was around 5-6 GB. It also used to go down to 3.5 GB once over the mountains. Could you confirm this from your end ? I do see the CPU and GPU hitting hard. So one reason to change to an Intel CPU. BTW if I use UHD on the laptop which is an i5 with Nvidia 1 GB and 8 GB RAM I get half the fps there but unlike my AMD desktop it does not CTD @LSZR. February 10, 201511 yr Author Well, I am quite confused about the memory readings I get from the Windows users (you are not the first one) ... i am only - end exclusively- using X-plane on Linux, and there I have seen relatively high memory usage. Now, if for example i just "plain" load up "Aosta" airport with UHD Mesh Scenery v1, I immediately get a mem usage reading for X-Plane around 8,5 GByte (for Linux users, in htop I see: RES: 8615M , VIRT: 10.9G) And honestly: ironmaiden, I am really surprised about your attitude ... I mean, you seriously did overwrite your default Global Scenery on a system which is definitely (by my warnings etc.) outpowered by UHD Mesh? Sorry, but this sounds a bit insane ... I mean, I can understand if you try (and are happy with) it ... but I would at least go the "standard" way of installing it in "Custom Scenery" (because that way, you have an easy fall back) but not overwriting the default ... Sorry, but this is sounding a bit .. mad  Hmm ... by the way, did you overwrite Global Scenery with the HD mesh Scenery v3 too? Or do you have HD Mesh Scenery v3 installed correctly? In the latter case, you would NOT see the UHD stuff (which you put in Gobal Scenery) but the correctly installed HD Mesh Scenery v3 .... thats why I ask you to check the Log.txt to make sure what EXACTLY gets loaded, Andras Fabian / Alpilotx Visit www.alpilotx.net, a site about X-plane scenery You can see some landscape and other photographs from me here: http://www.flickr.co...s/weathermaker/
February 10, 201511 yr @Andras I have seen XPX in linux hitting VIR of 10 GB but that was before V3 and V1. But now I am on windows only because I need it for work. ya I put HD V3 in Global. And when UHD was downloaded I put that UHD in Global too overwriting those lat long files. I am not using the default terrain of X plane from the DVD. I only fly in selected areas that is covered by V3. But I can give it a shot putting UHD in Custom Scenery as advised by you. I was just experimenting too if it would work. February 10, 201511 yr Author But I can give it a shot putting UHD in Custom Scenery as advised by you. Eeerm ... and what exactly would that change now, after you have overwritten Global Scenery anyway? If you put it in Custom Scenery, then you would still see the same as when you have it in Global Scenery (and it would make absolutely no other difference) ... I was just experimenting too if it would work. Yes, and exactly if someone wants to experiment, going the Custom Scenery way is the "sane" way, as there is an easy "back-out" strategy (just pull the scenery from Custom Scenery and its gone ... easy). Whereas overwriting in Global Scenery means, that you fall-back "strategy" is to reinstall the original tiles. Which is far from trivial or easy ... thats why i am surprised, why you did not do it the Custom Scenery way, when you want to experiment ... But hey, its you system not mine Andras Fabian / Alpilotx Visit www.alpilotx.net, a site about X-plane scenery You can see some landscape and other photographs from me here: http://www.flickr.co...s/weathermaker/
February 10, 201511 yr @Andras What I will do is delete those tiles from Global and then put in V3 again and then UHD in Custom. Remember I do not use the terrain from XPX install except for my country India. That's how I have been using V3 straight into Global and it works like a charm and saves on space thanks to Tony. I will post back later tonight how it went. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

Yes, but its absolutely, totally, technically irrelevant for the running sim, if it gets its data from Global Scenery or from Custom Scenery. So my point is: I don not understand what exactly you want to change now, that you have (over)written everything in the Global Scenery anyway. It will not lower your RAM needs, neither make scenery loading faster, nor will it give you any more or less FPS. But hey, do what you want ... but its not unlikely that in the end you mess it up even more  Andras Fabian / Alpilotx Visit www.alpilotx.net, a site about X-plane scenery You can see some landscape and other photographs from me here: http://www.flickr.co...s/weathermaker/
February 10, 201511 yr Ya I may mess it up Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 10, 201511 yr I'm running X-Plane on Win7 and UHD. Memory use in XPX is 6.1GB. System total 12GB. Framerates above 20fps. I had CDT around Altenrhein (LSZR) but it is now resolved by version 1.01 from Aerosoft. Torfi
February 10, 201511 yr @Andras This is just my test and does not mean anything. I am also trying to save space as low on HDD I did this. Removed all Global + V3 + UHD. Then just copied UHD Alps to Global and loaded LSZR got no CTD and fps did go up till 17 still good. It stays between 13-17 fps. So the only terrain I have is UHD now. All on the AMD CPU so the CPU was much higher than the GPU. THIS IS INTENDED AS A PERSONAL TEST AND IN NO WAY RECOMMENDS OTHERS TO TRY. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
February 11, 201511 yr Moderator The only reason I installed the scenery into my global scenery folder was for generation using G2XPL (I couldn't find a config option to change the directory otherwise). Otherwise, I'd recommend you dump it into your custom scenery folder. If you are worried about space, you can delete the scenery tiles from the global scenery.
