Alabeo Tomahawk in FSX:SE

Featured Replies

The Alabeo Tomahawk is not working for me in FSX. There are two problems:

1) The fuselage is invisible, both in the external view and virtual cockpit. (I will attempt to post a screenshot below.)

2) The mixture constantly goes to zero (full lean). If I try and move the mixture lever on my Saitek quadrant the mixture lever will rapidly bounce back and forth between where the Saitek lever is and zero. If I don't move the Saitek lever, the mixture goes to zero and stays there until I move the Saitek lever again.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct these issues before I request a refund from Flight1? I sent a message to Alabeo support and two days later they wrote back and told me they currently aren't providing support for their products in FSX:SE.

I can only say: "same for me too", and that applies to the Pawnee and other Alabeo, and Caranado aircraft in FSX-SE.

I have tried in both DX9 and DX10, and with the same result.

I am sorry to say I don't know a cure, and this is why I am keeping FSX/Acceleration on my drive for the moment.

I am glad you raised the point and hope a knowledgeable user will give us the cure.

Many thanks,

Phil

Do you have the parameter highmemfix=1 in the Graphics section of the FSX-SE.cfg?

If you have Ezdok camera, did you run the configurator after adding the aircraft?

Thanks for the info everyone. Glad to hear it's not just me. I just did another clean install of FSX:SE and I don't want to reinstall the Tomahawk unless I can find a potential solution to both the graphics problem and the mixture problem.

gliderdriver: Thanks for the info, glad it's not just me. I certainly won't be buying any other Alabeo or Carenado aircraft until there is some kind of official word that their products are FSX:SE compatible. Based on the response I received from Alabeo it doesn't sound like they're in a big hurry to fix things.

I have Carenado B58 Baron and Cessna C208B Grand Caravan EX HD Series for FSXP3D. Both of them work 100% under FSX-SE, nor I have problems with Ezdok views (in fact I am using exactly the same camera set I always used under FSX boxed). I can't talk about Alabeo because I have no product from them.

I did some searching before I bought the Tomahawk and the best I could find was that some people were reporting their Carenado/Alabeo aircraft did work fine in FSX:SE. I bought the Tomahawk based on that (and the fact that I couldn't find anything that said it didn't work). Clearly some Carenado/Alabeo aircraft work and some don't, so if you are an FSX:SE user proceed with caution.

I always have wierd issues with outside Ezdok views if I forget to run the configuration tool after installing or reinstalling a plane.

I don't use EZdok and I'm not having the above issues with any other add-on aircraft besides the Alabeo Tomahawk..

This graphics "glitch" is Alabeo's way of indicating that they have detected an invalid install.

If this airplane is not supported on FSX-SE, that is the way they show just that..

No problem.. when I have the issue it's just on the specific airplane that I've just installed or reinstalled so if you dont' have Ezdok then that answers that!  B)

Just to follow up on this... After doing a clean reinstall of FSX:SE I decided to try installing the Tomahawk again after I found a YouTube video of the Tomahawk working in FSX:SE. For whatever reason it's now working correctly. The only thing I did differently was I added a backslash to the end of the install path (i.e., it wanted to install to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX and I added a backslash after the final FSX so it looks like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\). I don't know if this is what made the difference or it was just sheer luck but it installed and is working fine. Both the graphic glitch and the mixture glitch are gone.

I have spent about an hour with the Alabeo Tomahawk and I have to say I'm a little underwhelmed. The flight model, graphics, sounds, etc. are all fine but nothing special. I have been flying the A2A Skyhawk and Cherokee pretty much exclusively the last couple of weeks--I guess they have spoiled me for all other add-ons.

Thanks Wing, and glad to hear.  I'm about to do a fresh install of FSX-SE, having ditched FSX entirely, so here's hoping.  The Tomahawk is a bit boring, but as you say nicely modelled.
