February 25, 201511 yr I was just wondering if you guys, at any point plan to put an EFB in the 777's. Right now, I'm a victim of the Windows 8.1 glitch with FSX, and if I click out - like to pull up a chart - my joystick isn't recognized until I restart the simulator. I don't own an iPad or tablet, so I was just wondering if I could get feedback on this. Thanks! Marc Eichler

You might try searching or posting in the Win10 and FSX forums for help with your joystick issue. Mike
February 25, 201511 yr Commercial Member I was just wondering if you guys, at any point plan to put an EFB in the 777's. As mentioned, you might benefit from browsing the forum a bit on this question since it's come up several times...however: Example costs to help people wrap their head around this: Jepp Data USA Approach Charts: $300.00 Canada: $237.00 Latin America: $195.00 South America: $253.00 Europe: $612.00 Eastern Europe: $382.00 Africa: $417.00 Australasia: $244.00 TOTAL: $2640 These are prices per year. ...and that's not including the cost to license the performance data in that capacity. February 25, 201511 yr Commercial Member Hey Kyle you guys can give us that for free right Sure, if a couple people want to go buy the P3D NGX at the price it's currently listed at... Kyle Rodgers
February 25, 201511 yr Is there any chance of making it work with user made charts? The 777 user can put his own charts in a folder, and use the EFB to view them. Stian Beinset ENML
February 25, 201511 yr I just have my laptop next to me when I fly the NGX. I have all the info I could ever need. Dave Dave Paige

If anything, I think this is the least likely to be implemented of what would go into an EFB - personally. I really, honestly, question the effectiveness of a chart tool inside the sim. It would be tiny, it would require changing your viewpoint in a critical phase of flight (which, without TrackIR, or similar, would make things pretty difficult), and it would require the user to expend a ton of effort on their own to keep it updated...for a marginal benefit at best. It's better to just use a tablet, second computer, second monitor, or simply a paper chart and set it in front of you. Again, this is all personal opinion, but to me, the only true reason I'd advocate an EFB in the sim here is for performance calcs and FCOM/QRH reasons. Kyle Rodgers

Hmm, and how cool would it be if there were a lightweight webserver or something that you could hit said EFB simulation on from your locally-networked Tablet... Having the FCOM/QRH/Performance calc functions of the EFB simulated in that way would be nifty. Brian Schwark KBWI
February 25, 201511 yr FCOM and QRH maybe, but do you know how long it would take to set up the performance calcs? (Hint, look at TOPCAT) Cheers, Chris Brand
February 25, 201511 yr FCOM and QRH maybe, but do you know how long it would take to set up the performance calcs? (Hint, look at TOPCAT) I dunno, prior to TOPCAT doing it I had made myself a spreadsheet using the performance tables in the FCOM in a weekend that was working just fine for takeoff/landing calcs, so it's not particularly difficult to just crunch the performance numbers. I won't speculate on what takes the TOPCAT devs so long. Brian Schwark KBWI

Did they take into account wind, temperature, altitude, pressure, wet/dry runway, precipitation etc? Remember this is PMDG. If they're going to do something they have to do it perfectly . I think it's a one man band and said one man doesn't get much free time to develop. Cheers, Chris Brand

I didn't measure it down to the T, but they seemed accurate enough for my personal use. It did take into account all the major variables, as the FCOM tables do. I actually still wish I had it (lost it in a series of unfortunate events and a backup failure), as the TOPCAT beta doesn't calculate anything but max braking landings, my spreadsheet would crunch all autobrake levels. Maybe I'll try to recreate it sometime. Of course PMDG would want to do it perfectly, but I'm sure they also have access to all the data they could ever need to be able to do such a thing! TOPCAT calculates more than that. It takes into account auto brake setting, flap setting, anti-ice settings, packs settings, runway condition, runway slope (although not modelled in FSX), winds etc. it's not a simple max brakes calculation. Oh I don't doubt PMDG could do it, I know they could. It's just extremely time consuming and would you rather see a small extra feature in one plane or the time go into developing a whole new plane? Cheers, Chris Brand
