June 14, 200520 yr Mike,I know you've been a long time user of another product. I was too. If you do purchase ASV, I'd be interested in your opinion.BTW, I wouldn't lead a fellow Oregonian astray with inaccurate information. ;-) Bruce
June 14, 200520 yr I Downloaded ASV last nite and so far I have only had time for a couple of short flights. The thing I noticed right off was that with the sky full of cloud cover I was still averaging 25-30 fps and with AS2004.5 my frame rates would be about 1/2 that with the same cloud cover. Indeed the clouds look great and the winds certainly have enhanced the flight experience. Great Job ActiveSky team and thanks for a great product. Once again you have taken us all to new heights,,,,,well done allsigned one happy customerDon:)
June 14, 200520 yr Other than the new types of winds, which indeed make turbulence as real as it gets, the feature I love the most is the intelligent clouds selection. You create a FP, leave your flight, load the FP in ASV and... not only sets the weather, but also chooses which is the best set of clouds to be used in the flight considering the different weather factors. For example it will check moisture, winds, precipitation, etc, and the textures are installed in your FS ready to be used for that FP.No other program does that, and FSW2004 and Active enviroment used with AS2004 will just load a set of clouds that can match the weather or simply not, depending on how lucky you are.Jim, thanks to you and Damian for the support you gave on Sat. Leo
June 14, 200520 yr The Repair job did the trick, and ASV is up and running. Thanks for a great product and for a fine service team. My compliments to the ASV team!Regards - Steve
June 14, 200520 yr Upgraded to ASV last night. Early impressions are very good. Framerates are certainly better and I can increase the cloud draw distance (nice at high altitude) to 50/60 miles without too much of a performance drop. Certainly the most realistic weather generation program so far. Thanks guys good job well done and just
June 14, 200520 yr Hi Leo. I am also enjoying the many new features in ASV. I have taken a few test flights and the level of complexity in the cloud layers is incredible. Yeah, the intelligence in cloud selection and route matching is really cool. Many, many thanks to Damian, Chris, and others who have made this happen.Regards, ________________________________ Ken B. June 14, 200520 yr >Weather programs often finish loading WX data after your>flight has loaded, which can result in ATC and AI traffic>using the wrong rwys based on the different weather that was>present at initial load up. Often, I save the flight and reset>it to force ATC and AI to align with the new weather, but now>it looks as though it is automatic. This is a good feature.Agree if you have to save and reload after initial load of a flight. Then it's a big annoyence with current AS 4.5 (which I have) but I haven't noticed this problem but it's fully possible it has evaded my attention.
June 14, 200520 yr Hi,Please e-mail Chris at: [email protected] this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 15, 200520 yr Might be a cool thing to create some situations (METAR files together with locations, track, altitudes and aircraft types), together with specific option setups in ASV, to be able to swap demos in this way of some of the graet things this software can achieve. Best purchase I've made in a long time.Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
June 15, 200520 yr I guess Jim and Damian will check this topic again, so here goes my wish again:Pls for a next upgrade of ASV include microbursts. They hardly ever happen, but they do exist, and do happen. Maybe when approaching under a T-storm put 1/1000 possibilities that it happens. Maybe that way it won't happen to a lot of us, but we'll know we'll have to watch out when conditions are the proper for this event.Leo
June 15, 200520 yr Well I bought ASV looking forward to using the 512K textures which are advertised but not included in the program.Still waiting after 2 days for HiFi sim to give me a URL so I can actually access these files. It's not professional for a company to advertise a product and then fail to deliver part of the software because they cant be bothered to buy extra bandwidth for their website.Come on Hi Fi Sim. I bought ASV and want to use it. I've tried the other textures. Now I want to use the other ones you advertise!RegardsAdam
June 15, 200520 yr You can find the 512K cloud set in the Avsim file library under the "Whats New" section...first page.
