March 22, 201511 yr Author Guys, I work in Fleet Service so I'm waaaaay down the food chain. Plus I'm on the stepchild side of the airline.(US Airways) Steve, this is my 4th merger in 36 years in the industry. Putting two large companies together is always an adventure. I probably won't see much of this merger as I'm planning on retiring next January. Ryan, all you can do is keep pushing. They're adding aircraft every week plus there are a lot of pilots retiring or getting ready to retire. Good luck. Hey Mike, never hurts to make the intros and see what's fleshes out...I didn't know where you stood in the USA/AA pecking order, but you may know a guy, who knows a guy, who flew with the chief pilot back in the military in the same squadron. That is how my ex-brother-in-law now flies 777s for United (hehe, again...was a Continental pilot absorbed into the United pilot pool. He lost a lot of seniority, but when he hired on, he flew with the Con. chief pilot in the Marines and that got his foot in the door at Con.) March 22, 201511 yr Moderator Thanks for the comments guys! Hey cmpbellsjc, that's a great place to spot at Love! I imagine you got a great view of Air Force One when she was here last year....I watched her fly by my building downtown (Bryan Tower). I know there are a few other Dallas residents here too. I actually lived in Plano when Air Force one came to town last and didn't get to see if but if it comes again I'm hoping for winds from the south and that they'll get 13L since that's the view I have from my living room. Funny that blueridgeflyer lives in McKinney. When I first moved to Texas back in 2000 I lived in McKinney, but being a sales rep my territory was I mainly in the Garland/Mesquite area, extending east to Rowlett and Rockwall. After a few years of fighting traffic coming from 635 and 75 going north to McKinney at rush hour, I threw in the towel and moved to Plano. Lived there for about 12 years near Custer and Bush, but even that go to be too much of a haul and moved to where I am now by KDAL. Now that I am pretty centrally located, I can get about anywhere in a equal amount of time. I'll say this, I don't envy anyone who has to drive home from Dallas to Lewisville going up 35 at rush hour with the road construction. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 22, 201511 yr Steve, for a long time that was the only way you got a job in this industry. You had to know someone. My dad and both of my brothers worked for AA. I started with Allegheny.

Hey Cmpbellsjc....exactly the reason I ride DART. 50 minutes door to door...everytime (Except when there is ice on the lines or someone gets stabbed at a station.) :Raised Eyebrow: I avoid 35 (and 35 for that matter) at all costs. 75 and the North tollway are no picnics either! Steve, for a long time that was the only way you got a job in this industry. You had to know someone. My dad and both of my brothers worked for AA. I started with Allegheny. Totally agree Mike. You generally gotta' know someone. Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
March 23, 201511 yr Steve we absolutely love Mckinney. We have two young ones in the household and the schools are / were a big selling point for us. Lots of green space and places to ride, jog and enjoy being outdoors. CNN money ranked it as the best place to live in America. I'm not sure what their study was based on, but we think it certainly has some merit. The health care industry is sprouting plenty of developments all throughout the area. In fact a new one was recently built here in our neighborhood. It seems to be a good time to be in the profession, but obviously there are many changes to the way healthcare is being administered with the Afordable Care Act. I hope things are well for you. AA is doing some robust hiring and obviously I'd prefer to be DFW based, but I would be remiss not to welcome just about any base and equipment combinations. There will be plenty of movement within the seniority in the future to accomodate the geographical wishes of my family. If I end up remaining with Netjets that would be fine too as its a pretty good company which is owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. We are going through contentious contract negotiations and morale has been higher. Our pilot group and its responsibilities are unique to the profession and we want to be fairly compensated for our trade. It's simply a matter of business and it's important that it not become a distraction. Mike, that's less than a year before you depart the pattern towards retirement. I hope the combined carrier gives you plenty more options for exciting travel into the future. You certainly have earned it. Tail winds sir. Ryan Kelly
