from Survey Folks (@6:18pm Eastern):"...Seems the installer file has been corrupted. Therefore I had to pull it off the web and will rebuild it and then repost it. I'll send an email when it is back up. Thanks again for your patience."Jim

Hello All,Yes, I have installed the software and yes, I send the reports, and yes, I am doing it so Microsoft can see how I use flightsim and get an idea that some of us 'serious' simmers do want serious improvments. This is not a con, or a hoax, and if you took the survey and then recieved the e mails, then you are asked to be included into the program. Again, this is a way you can add your input to MS as to what you use FS for and it will tell them what route to plan FS in the future. We have all asked for MS to listen to us about what we want from FS and what we use FS for. Think about that for a second. I suggest the things you really like to do in FS is what you concentrate on -- and send those report.I for one have had NO problems with this software and it has been throughly cked out by many of the 'old guys' in FS to make sure there would be no problems.Best to all, Use this chance to improve our hobby.Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. One quick question. Will the survey software work with the no cd patch or do we need to uninstall it & use CD4? If the latter, no dice M$.LPXO

Got the email, installed the sofware, went flying, don't notice any difference in performance and it is totally transparent therefore I'll let MS gather their information as neccessary. And for you Nervous Nelly conspiracy buffs out there please see the following:Search results for: 131.107.135.179 (This is the FS Team Server from where you download the software)OrgName: Microsoft Corp OrgID: MSFTAddress: One Microsoft WayCity: RedmondStateProv: WAPostalCode: 98052Country: USNetRange: 131.107.0.0 - 131.107.255.255 CIDR: 131.107.0.0/16 NetName: MICROSOFTNetHandle: NET-131-107-0-0-1Parent: NET-131-0-0-0-0NetType: Direct AssignmentNameServer: NS1.MSFT.NETNameServer: NS5.MSFT.NETNameServer: NS2.MSFT.NETNameServer: NS3.MSFT.NETNameServer: NS4.MSFT.NETComment: RegDate: 1988-11-11Updated: 2004-12-09TechHandle: ZM39-ARINTechName: Microsoft TechPhone: +1-425-882-8080TechEmail: [email protected] OrgAbuseHandle: HOTMA-ARINOrgAbuseName: Hotmail Abuse OrgAbusePhone: +1-425-882-8080OrgAbuseEmail: [email protected]: MSNAB-ARINOrgAbuseName: MSN ABUSE OrgAbusePhone: +1-425-882-8080OrgAbuseEmail: [email protected]: ABUSE231-ARINOrgAbuseName: Abuse OrgAbusePhone: +1-425-882-8080OrgAbuseEmail: [email protected]: ZM23-ARINOrgNOCName: Microsoft Corporation OrgNOCPhone: +1-425-882-8080OrgNOCEmail: [email protected]: MSFTP-ARINOrgTechName: MSFT-POC OrgTechPhone: +1-425-882-8080OrgTechEmail: [email protected]# ARIN WHOIS database, last updated 2005-06-17 19:10# Enter ? for additional hints on searching ARIN's WHOIS database.ALSO See BelowData Collection Explained

First of all let me say thanks for taking the words out of my mouth Drac. I was kind of surprised by all the above posts. I assumed that in order to be invited into the study you first had to take the survey which had to be requested by us in the first place. To answer your question LPXO, yes you can participate if you have the CD "patch" installed, or, at least I did.

Hear, hear; well said Clay and Mike T. R-

I loaded the software yesterday and it works absolutely fine as others have said. No impact on the flight experience at all. If Microsoft extends themselves to make a better simulation product for the community using our feedback then I'm all for it! What more could a serious simmer ask??? In my particular case I have a PC dedicated solely to sim software, so I don't see any "Col. Klink-like Gestapo tactics

Hello all, again, Just for another .03 cents worth . . . as Mike stated, it has NO effect on FS whatso ever other than asking if you want to send the report. Little effort for what gains it may give us. I intend to fly and send reports on the stuff I seriously do, and will do so until they tell me to stop. In fact, it makes me feel really good that perhaps I am giving back something to the community which I love so dearly.Mike, I'll call you tomorrow be around.Best,Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. same here. I got the mail and I do intend to participate in the max possible extent of the survey!I find it hard to believe that people are turning theyr back to MS team after being asked to VOLUNTEER to this project. First everyone got an "wow MICROSOFT is here to let us know and ask us how to improve...."Now People are bailing out for the same reasons they VOLUNTERED in???Of corse FS activity has to bee surveyd, it not just tell them how it was, they have to see it and analyse it far more profundly than anything we can tell them.We can help "develop" a better future FS version. If a lot of you non instalers outthere don't participate, your particular data may not be replicated by another fellow simmer and as such some particular problem or will you may have would not reach MS.on a later date and as usual there will be a lot of criticism towards MS ( FS ), some of it might not be there if some more of you pareticipated.. think about it... and what's best is that it's efortless.

I also received the e-mail and have done the install with out any problems. I use it on a 5 pc cockpit simulator and have not had any problems. I also am using Airliner Pilot and it doesn't effect that either.Hopefully they will notice the add-on's we have and will incorporate these into FS10.Danny

I did the install and it has no effect on performance...as for why, as I asked earlier in this thread...it now seems clear to me that MS is planning the next upgrade of FS, and is very serious about getting community input as to what we really want from the program. I'm happy to do what I can to stimulate MS to give us an even better sim, responding to what we want.Sherm

To add a final footnote to this tread, I had a problem with FSLOG.DLL, sent an email this morning and got a reply DIRECTLY from the FS Team!It seems that the FS Team is taking this study VERY seriously and they are communicating with their volunteers. Again, this is what everyone has been crying about for 10 years and now it is coming to pass.Regards,Mike T.
