May 20, 201511 yr Is there any advantage for non-SLI users in downloading the GeForce Experience part of the driver? (which I understand is necessary to get the profile) I've never bothered with that so far because I don't run anything that might have been affected.
May 20, 201511 yr So are you recommending we deactivate things and slowly reenable to see where SLI is/isn't helping or getting caught up on something then? It's a little more complex than that unfortunately when you add 3rd party into the equation. But when LM submitted P3D to nVidia for evaluation to get a profile, I doubt it will include any 3rd party products beyond what's already included (some aircraft). nVidia (and LM) aren't going to install 1000's of add-ons to see how their SLI profile is working ... this is the downside to having an "open" platform with an SDK. I've found a few 3rd party BGL's that caused stutters/performance issues (various products not specific to any dev/vendor) and removed them and there was a drastic increase in performance. Obviously those items aren't rendering well in P3D DX11 and when something doesn't render well "as is" it's not going to render well with SLI either. To give SLI a fair shake, one should at least test it against a BASE no add-on P3D V2.5 12945. I know this is NEVER "our" situation, but it would be a more accurate test of how SLI is or is NOT doing. Cheers, Rob.
May 20, 201511 yr In my case using SGSS removes the bad AA almost 100% but unfortunately I'm not able to use it with my single 1st gen Titan card because the FPS drops like a stone as soon as I'm entering dense clouds... Yeah I have the same issue. Maybe we can get our friend Rob here to suggest to LM to give us a checkbox to disable AA on clouds - It's a huge performance hit. If Steve could figure out a way to do that in the DX10 fixer without access to the codebase , then I'm sure LM could give us the option. Maybe they hadn't considered it or tried it. Steve McNitt
May 20, 201511 yr Maybe we can get our friend Rob here to suggest to LM to give us a checkbox to disable AA on clouds - It's a huge performance hit. I already suggested to Beau going back to version 2.2 days ... an attempt was made but because of the way the DX11 API works the attempt wasn't reliable ... so to make it reliable would introduce breaking changes so it was put on the back burner ... who knows, maybe v3.0. FYI, I'm not aware of any part of DX11 API where you can specify the use of SGSS AA (not to be confused with SS AA) ... as far as I know SGSS AA is and always has been post process. Here is a petition started a few years ago ... but as you can see 2 years later and no SGSS AA profiles for DX11. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/544701/geforce-drivers/petition-for-directx-11-anti-aliasing-driver-profiles/1/ Funny thing is, this petition is aiming at the wrong vendor ... it should be aimed at Microsoft as DX11 is their API. DX12 will also stay with current DX11 AA options so don't expect to see any AA improvements with DX12. For now and the near future, they only way to deal with AA (without going SGSS AA) is the hammer and sledge approach ... higher resolution monitors ... which just happens to be the approach I took. Cheers, Rob.

That's a great idea because that would allow good AA in P3D without having to go SLI...at least for that reason. I am smooth at 20 so I am not concerned with FPS drop. If I ran at unlimited or possinly 30, I might see some but why would I do that if 20 works? Sure, if you're happy with 20 there's no reason for you to run unlimited. I need to use unlimited to have a smooth movement in the v/c using TrackIR and fact is when I enable SGSS even 20 would do it because the FPS IIRC dropped even below that and I got lots of severe stuttering. So with this said it would still be very interesting to hear how SGSS performs for someone with an SLI setup who just like me is running unlimited FPS and what happens when entering dense clouds. If going SLI would allow to use SGSS again that to me alone would be a reason for me to seriously consider going SLI.
May 20, 201511 yr I tried it today.I don't know how much was placebo effect but it seemed pretty good.I got sli working, green bars indicated, no messing with profiles, afr friendly or nvidia inspector. Started crancking stuff up. 2048 textures 16x aa, msaa, tripple buffer + vsync, unlimited fps. max autogen, max clouds, max distance, hdr, etc. got consistent 25-35 fps. Low over london with ftx england and asn with todays crappy weather.Quite impressed.Like I said not sure how much is placebo, I've not really run my current system much so haven't really guaged how much oompf it has. The gpus didn't really seem too stressed, maybe its the new cpu doing most the work. Cpu about 50degC gpus both about 60degC.I'm running a single beamer benq1085st at 1920x1080 on a 4.6ghz watercooled 5930k i7 with 2 x gtx 970 stryx OC.
May 20, 201511 yr hmm - I have a single EVGA GTX780SC ACX which is hard to come by these days and was just wondering if i can have my setup intact if i fing another card to go SLI. Current I have : 1 x 1920x1200 (main) 1 x 1280x1024 (for PFD,ND,GTN750 etc) 1 x CDUII 1024-768 Thanks Michael Michael I have a 780 Classified ACX that is the next step up in the 780 series #EVGA 03G-P4-3788-KR I may be letting go shortly. Let me know if you are interested. Nick Nick Sciortino
May 20, 201511 yr got a bad one. Did have BSOD first start of P3D under Sli, had to disconnect monitors 2 and 3 and connect again after starting P3D. got it all working after a couple of BSOD starts then got all my good results. been flying today AOK in P3D, but just trying back in FSX for a multiplay session, can't get FSX to run without immediate BSOD or even Windows to start. only way back has been to disconnect 2 and 3 again start windows with one monitor, disable SLI start FSX and THEN add monitors after start. neither FS seems to like SLI with all 3 at first start, FSX I cannot get working with SLI on this driver at all, so . . . Anyone else had problems like this? did find FSX seemed to have changed display settings on it's own like resolution, bi-linear and AA - looks like still stuff that crosses between the two when starting one after the other . . .
May 20, 201511 yr Moderator I need to use unlimited to have a smooth movement in the v/c using TrackIR and fact is when I enable SGSS even 20 would do it because the FPS IIRC dropped even below that and I got lots of severe stuttering. I've read a few posts of people with TIR issues. I have never had ANY problem with TIR at all. I use the latest driver from Naturalpoint and have been trying Rob's profile - prior to that it was seth'[s profile d/l from TIR site. When I run unlimited I can see the FPS go from 60 40 80 20 30 - etc. I would think THAT jumping around alone would induce TIR stutters. When I lock at 20 - it stays at 19.9 - 20 even in heavy clouds *UNLESS* I'm somewhere that completely drives the GPU's to 100% (like full IFR at JFK in a complex high res a/c)- *THEN* I'll get a little FPS drop. Don't necessarily want to start another war but one of the main things that NickN preaches is to try to get a balanced system - if one can get close to that, they usually have few issues. Vic FSX I cannot get working with SLI on this driver at all, so . . . FSX does NOT support SLI - it will not work. Maybe someday FSX:SE might get the code changes necessary. May 20, 201511 yr I hear you Vic but trust me, I've been discussing this topic a lot and also performed extensive testing and in the end nothing will give me as smooth experience as running unlimited. Some people see better smoothness running locked while others see better results running unlimited and I'm in the second group.
May 20, 201511 yr I'm not seeing any of the visual issues in SLI mode like others have reported, all visually looks good. Are you using rex4 textures? It almost looks like P3D is using the incorrect .bmp files in for lightning effects. Maybe I should wipe out my installation yet again and start over? May 20, 201511 yr Hmm yes. Know FSX doesn't support SLI but it didn't crash with BSOD when I just had my cards in SLI with earlier install of P3D, just didn't do anything. I can't be having with disconnecting monitors and disabling and disabling SLI every time I swap FS. Up until this I could go from one t'other without even a reboot ;-(
May 20, 201511 yr Are you using rex4 textures? I have REX 4 installed, but I only use the soft clouds aspect of it. Cheers, Rob
May 20, 201511 yr Are you using rex4 textures? It almost looks like P3D is using the incorrect .bmp files in for lightning effects. Maybe I should wipe out my installation yet again and start over? i'm using rex 4 and saw streaky lines at altitude. Didn't have them before. Lightning or lighting? There was lightning in the weather when I saw them.
May 20, 201511 yr Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Ok .. I have tried SGSS x2 and I got a very smooth 35 FPS with real weather added ( I use Rex 4 and Opus weather engine) The weather was pretty snotty in the UK today and when I entered cloud the frames went down to approx. 20/25 FPS but things were still very smooth I then tried SGSS x 4 ..... Haha .. forget it ... it rendered the sim very stuttery This was using 2 x Asus GTX 970 minis ..... but I am not 100% sure they are working in SLI mode with P3D I will take another look tomorrow with trying to get the SLI indicator bar working Paul
