July 12, 200520 yr I'm thinking about it... Thats the main plane that helped win the second world war... The PBY is a true classic (and I'm not into old planes)... July 12, 200520 yr ....but you hate the way MS handles water landings Dillon ;-)I'm thinking of getting it, but Aerosoft are working on one as well and I'd like to see what their will be like first.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
July 12, 200520 yr There is a guy that posted some screenshots over at Sim Outhouse. In the FS2004 forum. Looked pretty nice. Andrew
July 12, 200520 yr DillonSurely you mean ONE of the planes that helped won the Second World War? The B-24 Liberator/PB4Y was far more important in the anti-U-boat war. :-) Ian(in pedantic mood)
July 12, 200520 yr Even more pedantically, remember that it was the C-47 that was actually picked out by the President as being one of the four pieces of equipment that were most important to the Second World War. Certainly, the only 'plane mentioned!Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
July 12, 200520 yr MarkYes that's right, but I thought it was Ike who said it. Now what were the other three - of course, nylons, ice-cream and coca cola...Ian
July 12, 200520 yr I don't have it, but the screen shots look pretty nice. I can't help but wonder why they can't seem to get the star and bar correct? It wouldn't be a big issue but it just seems sloppy. Otherwise the repaints and model look outstanding.Todd
July 12, 200520 yr Must say I hadn't noticed that until I compared it with photos of the real thing, the difference is that small. Also remember the star and bars changed several times during the war, it's possible that the design they used was an intermediate used for a limited period only.
July 12, 200520 yr I think a case could also be made for the PBM Mariner. The PBY was obsolete. I would like to see a good Mariner!scott s..
July 12, 200520 yr <<<>>Which one? Their paints show several, and they all look authentic to me. July 12, 200520 yr I'm really surprised with all the aviation experts in here that it doesn't get noticed. Take a closer look. It's way off. I can see why Alphsim probably doesn't care, since most simmers don't even notice it. But I do expect a little more accuracy in payware.Todd
July 12, 200520 yr On one or two the bar doesn't seem to have a straight edge over the roundel.Rather it seems of the roundel is placed overhead a continuous white bar running all the way under it (instead of 2 bars being placed on top of the roundel, with the corners intersecting the edge of the roundel.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/122113.jpgTop: incorrect (as seen on Alpha PBY and many other FS models, paintings, and aircraft kits).Bottom: correct.Size of bars much exagerated compared to the real thing to bring out the difference. In reality it's less visible but it is there when you know it. I'd not call it a serious flaw at all (there's more places it's shown incorrect than I care to count) but yes, it is in error.
July 12, 200520 yr It would help if someone would tell me which roundel i.e. which picture you are referring to!Do you mean the late 1943 roundel star and bar, as Jeroen seems to indicate? If so, yes, it's not quite right on the shots on their website, but Jeroen, you're not right either I think. Maybe you didn't bother going to the official link I offered above; but here is the 1943 insignia from that site:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/122114.jpgThe bars cut in, yes, but not as you describe, Jeroen.Anyway, as you say, it's nothing to get too excited about. I don't think it would stop me buying the product if I wanted it badly enough.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
