July 10, 201510 yr So I have recently done a fresh install of FSX, started installing also all the add-ons starting with FTX Global, FS Global Ultimate Mesh, UTX USA/Europe, and lastly yesterday Rex4 TD w/Soft Clouds. I decided to set rain for the weather, and man was I surprised at what I saw.... Rain practically flies horizontally coming straight at you??? In flight it seems like Han hit the hyperdrive button and I'm heading straight to Alderaan (well, were it *used* to be, you know...) WTH is going on??? Doesn't rain look like rain? :S
July 10, 201510 yr Uhm.. Ok, I'll check it out, but is what I'm seeing what's "normal"? Do all the pics and videos I see use that (or another) add-on?
July 10, 201510 yr Hard to say what are are seeing without a picture. But, the way you describe it, yes that's how it is by default. Chris Smith
July 10, 201510 yr Understandable. I will upload one this afternoon when I get home. I understand the pilot won't see it until he dives under the clouds again, but in my case besides the take off, etc. I'm talking about just standing on the runway as soon as the flight loads... Starts off there crazy effect...
July 10, 201510 yr Oh...hmmm I don't think that is normal. It's been quite a while since I took off in rain. I'll try it on mine and see what I get You should be able to view three pictures at this link. It's hard to take the screenshot and it looks like the rain is massive long line, but in reality it doesn't look like that. But it's falling straight down and looks how I expect it to look. This is with FSX default weather and selecting Heavy Thunderstorm. The picture named HeavyRain_ASN is using ASN to set-up heavy thunderstorms. I wanted to test both https://mega.nz/#F!zpQwwI7Z!QpTqxX_EJdtVGF92Yyjvvg Chris Smith
July 11, 201510 yr Well, here is the rain.... On second look yes, if I'm still it falls straight down. As soon as you move the star wars warp effect starts.... Also weird is that this sideways rain is also the same from external view!!!
July 11, 201510 yr If you check my photos, from inside the cockpit, none of them show what you see. However, what is your wind? Mine was set to basically zero wind Chris Smith
July 11, 201510 yr Saw them, but didn't know if they were with the aircraft static or moving. I didn't touch anything except the basic "rain/storm/etc." setting within fsx. What can I set to make it 0 and try again? (Still don't get though even if there was wind this would affect more in movement but also affect when I'm still, as the wind would be pushing the rain)
July 11, 201510 yr Hmm intresting. Ok select what I picked which is the default "Heavy Thunderstorms" default FSX weather reset. And see if it still shows like you picture. Because in mine the rain falls flat. In my pictures, my engines where off. My default panel state of the 737 is Long Turn which is engines off. I Just spawned it on the runway. 0 movement whatsoever. That was about 20 seconds after loading it up. Nothing was moving. Is you're shot of a plane at standstill as well? Chris Smith
July 11, 201510 yr My rain looks a lot like Raven9000's and I use Active Sky 2012, which features its own set of weather textures. In general, FSX does not model raindrops hitting the windscreen. It is possible to do and some developers have included raindrops in the virtual cockpit, but that feature must be made as a part of the aircraft model and it adds a significant load onto the computer's CPU. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.
July 11, 201510 yr Using both FSX default and Active Sky Next to create a thunderstorm, I don't see that, as you can see from my pictures. All of which are taking from inside the flight deck. I'll have a couple more goes and see if I can reproduce. I uploaded another picture which is my ASN settings used to create the thunderstorm, hope that helps. https://mega.nz/#F!zpQwwI7Z!QpTqxX_EJdtVGF92Yyjvvg Also used default Cessna to try and remove any variables, and included those pictures as well. I did find I could see rain going side ways, the picture is called CessnaSide, however that was when using EXDok to rotate the camera around. The moment I stopped moving, the rain was seeing going down. I could never reproduce what you show while at standstill Chris Smith
July 11, 201510 yr My rain looks a lot like Raven9000's and I use Active Sky 2012, which features its own set of weather textures. You need different rain and snow textures to correct the unrealistic rain and snow in FSX AS2012 does not correct it PrecipitFX does correct the rain and snow and is the only way at the moment to get reasonable rain in FSX, worth the price for that alone. In general, FSX does not model raindrops hitting the windscreen. It is possible to do and some developers have included raindrops in the virtual cockpit, but that feature must be made as a part of the aircraft model and it adds a significant load onto the computer's CPU. FlySimWare have VC raindrops without it seems any additional CPU load, my CPU load does not seem to increase nor my fps decrease when it rains in the MU-2, looks great
July 11, 201510 yr Ok, I will try those settings and report. One doubt though is I see on the pictures that show it that your plane is still... if you look at my other posts I was mentioning that still it also falls (correctly) straight down. Only when I'm moving does the effect start, and the effect is also seen from the outside view which is plain wrong... Now if I look at your pics on mega, I see one that says "side" that is you look the rain there is also sideways. Did you see that? Let me correct/add to that: The views from the outside are when the plane is MOVING. But even so, you are viewing from OUTSIDE... the effect should not happen at all!
July 11, 201510 yr All of those pictures are taken with the plane at standstill. Even the engines are off. The only one showing rain going sideways was where I moved the view using EZDok. With a plane not moving that's the only way I can see sideways rain Chris Smith
