July 11, 201510 yr Hi, after some back and forth I decided to move to Dx10. But surprise- the DX10 preview checkbox within FSX isn't there anymore. Here is what I did: Deinstalled Shader3 Mod, cleaned up all the files. Deinstalled FXAA, cleaned up all the files. Deleted/Deactivated D3D9.dll, as it's said to be incompatible. Replaced D3D8.dll with a fresh one from dlldump.com. Didn't have the D3D10.dll (in the FSX folder), downloaded from dlldump.com and placed into the FSX folder. Didn't have the D3DX10_34.dll (in the FSX folder), downloaded from dlldump.com and placed into the FSX folder. Deleted FSX.cfg to be rebuilt. Run DXDiag, no problems. Updated NVidia Drivers. Deinstalled NVidia 3D Stereoscopic Drivers. De- and Reinstalled SP2. Nothing of this brought me the checkbox back. Win7 64 Home, NVidia GTX770. Does anyone have some more ideas on this one..? Otherwise I'll just give it up.. :( Regards, Matthias Regards. Matthias Hanel MilViz Beta Team
July 11, 201510 yr Do you have FSX service pack 1 and 2 installed as I think these are what give you the preview option. CPU: Intel i9-11900K @5.2 / RAM: 64GB DDR4 3200 / GPU: 4080 16GB /
July 11, 201510 yr after some back and forth I decided to move to Dx10. But surprise- the DX10 preview checkbox within FSX isn't there anymore. Did you ever have the DX10 checkbox - you must have a DirectX 10 graphics adapter to enable the DirectX 10 features. EDIT Deleted/Deactivated D3D9.dll, as it's said to be incompatible.Replaced D3D8.dll with a fresh one from dlldump.com. Why.? FSX and SP2 installs what's needed. Also, I have neither of those file in my FSX folder but still have the DX10 box. Gerry Howard
July 11, 201510 yr Author The GTX770 has DX11, so this isn't a problem. I had it when I set up the sim, tested it once and because of many errors switched back to Dx9. I had several Mods installed, like Shader3, ENB, later on FXAA, maybe some leftover is interfering here, but I cannot find anything obvious. I run FSX in windowed mode with 1 monitor as FSX, 1 for charts, and one USB touchmonitor. But I guess this setup wouldn't prevent the DX10 mode. Regards. Matthias Hanel MilViz Beta Team
July 11, 201510 yr I think, the greatest advancement over DX9...is that when you are in DX10, and have Steve's DX10 Fixer and REX water wave sets in place,...AND..you have set the water to varying wave directions using 'da fixer'...you have water in FSX.x, that is absolutely real to the eye...great animated graphics...and never fails to convince me that you are flying over a real ocean, or lake body. Yes, there are tons more reasons to make the move..but being a water guy...over it, and on it...this was the biggest kick for me. You'll enjoy DX10 Mode once you have it working for you. Happy flights!
July 11, 201510 yr Id be reinstalling FSX uninstalling than reinstalling SP2 may have messed up something. As to why you did the DLL replacement thing, that wasnt necessary. There is a DX10 instaler out there or use the web installer.
July 12, 201510 yr Author Reinstalling the complete sim is unfortunately no option. This would take several days, and some more weeks to reimplement all the tweaks and fixes. It would be quite interesting if someone could tell what exactly FSX is looking for in order to provide the option- yea I know, Win7, Dx10 graphics card and SP2- what what files exactly are called? Was could be altered to make the option reappear? Regards. Matthias Hanel MilViz Beta Team
July 12, 201510 yr Deleted/Deactivated D3D9.dll, as it's said to be incompatible.Replaced D3D8.dll with a fresh one from dlldump.com.Didn't have the D3D10.dll (in the FSX folder), downloaded from dlldump.com and placed into the FSX folder.Didn't have the D3DX10_34.dll (in the FSX folder), downloaded from dlldump.com and placed into the FSX folder. Who said D3D9.dll is incompatible? I have all have all those files on my PC. . They should be in various folders within C:\Windows... not in FSX. Also, there are different versions in the system. For example, I have two versions of D3DX10_34.dll. One is 494 KB in C:\Windows\System32 - the other is 433 KB in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. I suggest that you have messed up your system yourself, and may have no option but to re-install. Gerry Howard
July 12, 201510 yr Author Steve's DX10 Fixer said. Because I was smart enough not to check for the checkbox before purchasing, even if explicitly told to check.. :/ The files are all in the windows folders, and I didn't touch them. However they are also installed into the FSX folder, by FXAA or SweetFX for example, and these files as they are changed from the original are said to be incompatible. I did a lot of googling and so just went ahead and put the files I menshioned into the FSX folder, which however didn't change anything (but worked for others). So I reverted now back and didn't mess up anything, as the original files in the windows folder are active now, with no D3XXXX.dll file present in the FSX directory. Regards. July 17, 201510 yr Author Yep, just 1 hour ago. In another forum I asked someone using the fixer to post every DLL in his FSX main directory. I compared them to mine, and one file got my attention: nvwgf2um.dll (which I had, but he did not). I deactivated it, and look- DX10! I can only imagine that the MilViz 732 installed it, as they were fiddling around with some DX11 (sic!) lighting effects in their addon. So solution was: Delete/ deactivate nvwgf2um.dll. Regards.
