August 9, 200520 yr Your right Paul I just didn't know it, now I do... May the horse rest in peace... :-hah FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
August 9, 200520 yr There both heavies Randy... LDS did a wonderful job on their sound set and it's the only comparible product out there. Ariane missed it on theirs and any older 747 product is not worth talking about at this point... August 9, 200520 yr Last time I flew on the flight deck of a 747-400 in approach& landing phase, I couldn't hear any engine noise only some wind noise. Couldn't hear flaps or spoilers. Could definitely heartouch-down, wow!The old problem seems to be how to get soft wind noise plusnear deafening touchdown sounds, without having to tinkler withsound settings all the time. I don't know whether PMDG 744 has solved this. PSS 747 400 sounds were sweet.Peter Sydney Australia
August 9, 200520 yr In the year 2050- FS501 "Man I cannot believe the low quality bug guts on the window"2 "Yeah everyone knows at least one wing sticks a few seconds before it rips off"3 "What gets me is the green slime. Its alot greener in real life."4 "I disagree, Im a real 787 pilot and the guts are really thicker with blue chunks, not purple. The green is about right"5 Well Im really upset they do not simulate the colder climate bugs. I mean come on PMDG, how about some Northern spiked beetles.6 PMDG- We apologize about the inertia problems with the bugs and it will be adressed with the next update. FS50 have a known limitation of 1 wing and 2 legs per strike. We can assure you that real 787 pilots have assured us the green goo is realistic.
August 9, 200520 yr Beating this horse one more time,I found a happy medium with the PMDG 744 sound set using headphones. I reduced the wind noise level,{WIND_SOUND}filename=PMDG747_WINDminimum_volume=0maximum_volume=9500 --- (was 15000)minimum_rate=0.7maximum_rate=1.0minimum_speed=360maximum_speed=640I can now tolerate the sound package. I'm now actually able to appreciated the work PMDG has done in researching the different interior engine sounds (Rolls Royce, PW, etc.). Now I'm off to more important FMC issues with this add-on like,1. Why VNAV doesn't seem to work at all.and 2. Why LNAV doesn't progress through waypoints like it should. It stays stuck on the first waypoint of the flight plan. All grips aside the PMDG 744 is a wonderful package overall... :-beerchug FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
August 9, 200520 yr >Now I'm off to more important FMC issues with this add-on>like,>>1. Why VNAV doesn't seem to work at all. Sure it does, if it's not working I can tell you there is something you are missing.>>and >>2. Why LNAV doesn't progress through waypoints like it should.> It stays stuck on the first waypoint of the flight plan. Are you talking about while in plan mode or? Of course it progresses through the flight plan, #### even I would rant and whine about that lol...
Randy J. Smith
Randy J Smith
August 9, 200520 yr I don't know about the wind noise but the engine noise is ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY WRONG, and I don't care what claims are made to the contrary.I am in India right now after doing 7 hours on a 747-400 in seat 1A upperdeck first class behind the flight deck (UAL IAD-FRA) and then 1K lower deck business class in front of the flight deck (Lufthansa FRA-Bangalore). On take off, the engines can be heard...not loud but certainly louder than a 737 in first class but softer than a 777 in first class. At cruise, the engine noise was BARELY AUDIBLE! Now, if I am sitting JUST BEHIND the cockpit in an open cabin on the upper deck it is IMPOSSIBLE that it would be LOUDER on the flight deck with the door closed! Even on the main deck sitting in the nose it is quieter than it is in MSFS.Personally, I think that PMDG got the sounds pretty screwed up. It is loud in the cockpit but soft outside in spot view???? Ummmmmm, no.Regards,Mike T.
August 9, 200520 yr Thanks Mike, it's good to finally have someone who's recently been on the actual bird and can attest to what I've been saying all along. There's no support from many users on this so it's basically a dead issue even though it's a valid issue. Like I posted above I've found a happy medium that works for now. All things considered this is an awesome title to say the least so some things I'm going to have to live with and let go... :-roll FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

August 9, 200520 yr WOW! some people just can't wait to complain about anything and everything, no matter how big or small. Now what are your default FS sound sliders set at? If you use what PMDG recommends, 30% engines, 50% everything else, you will find an extremely realistic sound. Also, you would hear different noises than the cockpit, because the cabin is more sound proofed than the cockpit
August 9, 200520 yr >because the cabin is more sound proofed than the cockpitSorry, I don't buy it. Makes no sense.Michael J. Michael J.

August 9, 200520 yr I also think that the PMDG sounds are a bit misbalanced. I don't think that all the sounds are too loud, but their balance is wrong. The engines sound too loud and probably a bit too crispy too. When you do a recording it really isn't automatically the same what you hear with your own ears, as someone already mentioned above. Some careful EQ has to be applied to edit the sounds to represent the sound that you hear in real life. And you have to create a good balance when mixing the sounds together. For example if the sound has too much treble it tends to sound louder than a sound with less treble even if the dB levels are exactly the same. The plane's (any plane 767 or 747 or 757 etc.) fuselage filters the engine sounds, you can't hear "whine" in a very high frequency in the cabin or in the cockpit.Creating sounds is complicated, using ears is always better even if dB and other numbers seem to make no sense. :-)Greetings,Tatu
August 10, 200520 yr Um, Alex? I can read the PMDG manual too as I have just learned how to read and understand english. As such I've ALREADY used the sliders and the sounds STILL didn't sound right. AND NOW, having spent >16 hours on two 747-400s I can tell you without a doubt the sound is wrong. Probably not intentionally but wrong none the less. And as far as:"Also, you would hear different noises than the cockpit, because the cabin is more sound proofed than the cockpit"Come on man, I know there ain't no easter bunny, no santa, and no passenger airplanes where the ENGINES are louder in the cockpit than in the cabin (ESPECIALLY the 747-400 where the engines are FAR behind and below the cockpit!) Sorry.Mike T.
