Opinions on ths Cherry keyboard please

Featured Replies

Hi

I am considering getting the Cherry keyboard G86-63400EUADAA at http://www.megabuy.com.au/cherry-g86-63400euadaa-spos-keyboard-with-142-programmable-keys-to-3-levels-relegendable-black-p28939.html.

I know it's not cheap but it has 142 programmable keys using the Cherry software. I intend using it with EZCamViews which allows you to create custom VC camera views (soon to include outside views) and also using the Cherry software to bring up all my different gauges using the shift key, plus other items eg landing gear etc.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated before I lay down my hard earned.

Thanks

John

looks & seems like my Logitech G510 keyboard (though not as organised) which I use in parallel with a Logitech G13 keyboard to give me similar assigning thru fsuipc or directly to fsx functions... in one "profile", i can have 130 multi key / macro sequences using shift, ctrl, alt etc & mixes thereof across the alphanumeric range.

i have no experience with the Cherry keyboard so can only mention & recommend the above option reliably used over more than 4 years now.

for now, cheers

I also have the Logitech G510 and like it a lot and it costs less than the Cherry.

For EZdok view, I use a Logitech G13. It works fine for me and I keep is simple. Each key is mapped to an open key command and assigned to roughly the same view for every aircraft. Top row is for VC views - pilot on the left, FO on the right, panel, pedestal... in the middle. Cabin view are the second row - left wing view on left, right wing view on right, others in the middle.

This method gives me 22 possible views with 7 reserved for VC - more than enough for me.

Another vote for the Logitech G13 here.  More affordable and has everything you need and nothing you don't need (e.g. credit card swiper).

I've got EZdok views set up much like Jeff's above and it works great.  I also map the two mouse buttons to whichever two views I use the most (can be different in different aircraft) and the bottom row of buttons to pop up sub-panels.  I've been using the joystick for elevator and rudder trim, but decided that worked better mapped to my flight controllers (just a personal preference thing--operationally I had no trouble with it mapped to the G13 joystick).

You can download a mapping profile for FSX that has all of the most commonly used keyboard commands preconfigured so you don't have to go through the drudgery of loading all the FSX commands into the device.  You simply map those to whatever G13 keys you want to use to fire them off.  Their profiling software is intuitive and I've had no trouble with it.

Using the G13 I have little doubt you can get the results you want and you'll save yourself some money.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at the G13.

Another possible solution; I'm using HIDMacros with an inexpensive USB keypad as an input device for the FSX GPS.

Although HIDMacros is no longer being upgraded or supported, it's stable enough that paired with keypad or second keyboard it might do the trick.

I have been really happy with my Logitech G110. Simple, straightforward and reliable with 12 Game keys and three memory levels for a potential 36 user defined functions.

Just another option.
