FTX Vector 1.30 New Installer (P3Dv3)

Recommended Posts

I have stripped Vector down as per David's 2.5 advice and am quite happy with that.  I leave it there for high or low level flying

I want Vector only for high resolution terrain map.. like for Asia.

and maybe their night lights (major highways?) ...  Hope those two would not take too much VAS or FPS

Frozen water feature in winter not working?

The setting "Frozen Water" does not seem to (s)tick in the Vector Config tool.

P3Dv3 and Vector V1.3 installed with P3Dv3 installer. Also Global and OpenLC NA CANAK (all with the P3Dv3) installer.

That's why I maintain a stripped down version on my install.  I like it for the way it transforms coastlines and other water features, but I keep a lot of the roadways off, as well as the frozen waters and marshes.  Tunnels kill my fps and vas.  The AEC feature has never disappointed me either.  I got sucked into it when it came out because I was told I needed it.  Well, right now, I have FTX Global and FTX England installed but no Vector.  Nothing has blown up, so I suspect I can actually get by without it so I'm not exactly rushing to download the update.

Totally agree Jim

Orbx has my money but I think vector will remain on FSS server

I may still give it a go and see how it runs in v3, on my own rig.  It ran decent (nothing extraordinary) in v2.5 before, so it's worth a test I guess.

Seems they fixed the occasional black water textures that occurred when you installed the 2.5 version into 3.0.

Also, just a reminder to folks. AEC should not be used unless its actually needed. The 'auto-configuration' enables airport corrections when their is no need for them in many cases. I just disable them all completely, unless their is some stock elevation that really doesn't match up with FreeMeshX Global.

Uninstalling this if I am not happy will be a horror show so I think I will pass - but looking forward to your findings for sure

Well as I read this thread at OrbX forum (http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/103205-vector-frozen-water-question/)

It seems that it is turned off (and can't be turned on) by design (workaround)?

Curious Rich, what makes it so horrible? My perhaps flawed understanding is that unchecking the folders in the scenery.cfg plus disabling another entry manually render it....unused. Which I've done while testing UTX against it. I guess I'm wondering, are there P3D core files that are swapped out besides?

Cheers,

Greg

I like that as an answer, thanks. I guess I'm off to install and see what comes of it.

I will install and try it out, but to be honest i didn't miss anything with only LC and global base installed. I'm mostly flying high, so do we really need it? I'm not sure..

Good points Dave - well if you have turn most of it off in my mind what good is it

Hi Rich,

Because I only fly high, I like it for the Main and secondary roads but the thing I like best is the coastlines and water edging. All the rest for me is a waste of time. Just did ENGM - EKCH, the coastline and large and small lakes/rivers looked stunning.

Only did one screen shot not a very good one to show lakes etc.

Like everything else in our hobby each to there own and what ever works for you.
