Tell me about REX (and does it work in v3?)

Featured Replies

For the longest time I've been a FSX FEX user.  I never used "the competitor's" product.  In P3D v2.5 I copied my FSX FEX files over that worked ok.  But in v3 I've just been using default clouds.  They are ok but look a bit cartoony.

I noticed the Soft Clouds at REX and they look pretty nice.  Do I need to buy some other package first?  Do these work in P3D v3?  What do people think about REX clouds?  I would be using the cloud textures with OPUS FSI.

While it's on Sale grab Rex texture direct with Soft clouds, it works just fine in V3 with Opus.  Well worth the money and time to download it. There are some great community themes

once you get it installed.  Make sure the bullet point  is checked for V3 , when I installed it I noticed the program had picked up my Version  but the bullet point was on FSX and it didn't

work.    Have Fun. !!

Can I use 1024 clouds or does everyone use 4096 textures?

Well I bought it from their site direct on sale....I'll let you know how it worked hehe

oh, if you have any community clouds I should use let me know.  I'm a fan of the 1024 stuff and realistic looking.

Also can I just install clouds and sky and water textures?  I don't really need all the other stuff.

Yes you can install as much or little as you want mix and match - its only installing textures - which also can be written over by other textures if you wish

Thanks Rich.... yep I found the manual finally lol (RTFM!)

Do you guys recommend any community themes?  I picked a few clouds and don't like the stuff I picked hehe.

edit:  One thing is bugging me.  I've made sure I uncheck the HDR option inside of REX, but whenever I use the new textures the lighting is uber bright.  When I'm below an OVC layer with stock textures everything is kinda dark, like real world is.  But the default "underneath" the OVC layer with REX textures is really bright.  HDR is disabled in P3D.

I wonder they created all their textures in HDR mode?  I refuse to use HDR.... it's wrecks things especially at night... ugh.  I guess it's "okay" in the daytime if you mess with the sliders.

edit:  I figured out what is causing the nuclear sun.... it's the sun glare settings.  I just unchecked that and found some 1024 clouds, with sky and water textures and I'm happy as a clam!

Do you have any particular favourite soft cloud set for the UK David?

Stupidly expensive rig, nonplussed Memsahib, disinterested offspring and a fascinated cat as Rio.  XP11, P3Dv3 and an Oculus Rift.

Without a doubt one of the best upgrades you can make visually. As David said, get the soft clouds. I only use 1024 textures.

To be honest, the differences are quite subtle. They are all good. I've installed one type from the beginning and have not felt a need to change it. It is convincing with every new flight.

No David,Try this..

Go into Rex4 and go to weather, type in the airport ICAO code for the airport you’re going to be using and click to get a weather report. Now Press Generate, Rex4 all give you what it think will be the best clouds sets, sky colours and lighting for the given report. All the rest is random.

In Options only tick the boxes for the above, then load them into the sim, this way you’re always get the best matching clouds etc for the flight you’re doing to make and it makes each time you fly that little bit different.

Thanks for that D - but for EGNL that will always be murky, wet and windy!  :P  Just a shame that Orbx can't incorporate rusty sheep into the scenery for that added touch of realism.

Yer it's not different here at EGNX
