MD 11 not available?

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

I'm interested in the MD 11. However when I go to the PMDG website, it is no longer in the store. How would one acquire this product for FSX-SE?

Thanks,

Scott

It's no longer for sale, and it wasn't built with FSX:SE in mind anyway.

Scott

If you look in the Bargain Hunter's section, Aerosoft have it for sale, but as Kyle stated, not specifically for FSX-SE.

Thanks - I will have a look over there. I've seen mention in various some places that people have it working with SE. If it's enough of a bargain, I might have a go at it ;-)

Indeed, I have it currently working in FSX-SE which I abandoned last 12 months but returned to it just to spend some time with the MD-11

The weird part is that md11 sales are picking up after it was officially abandoned.

You'll love the aircraft Scott and there's always going to be help on the forum.

Enjoy,

They plucked it from the store? Awww, that really sucks.

The MD-11 is probably the best aircraft to fly so far out of all the ones I have tried, I always keep coming back and it feels like home.

Hi Loren,

To be honest, I was surprised and disappointed to discover it was no longer available from the store. I had read nothing except glowing reviews/praise for it. I've always been a fan of the "3-holer" type airliner ;-)

However, if the developer feels that their MD-11 had reached the end of the line as far as they are concerned, I totally respect that.

I haven't been able to find a downloadable version for sale (and in all likelihood, there probably isn't one), only some boxed sets on Amazon and Aerosoft. Haven't decided yet whether to take the plunge or not.

Cheers,

Scott

Get it while you can guys.. The lady won't be there on the shelves forever.

It is sad that there aren't too many people who like this airplane.

It is an absolute masterpiece and for me an aircraft that resembles beauty.

If anyone viewing this post is even slightly interested in this aircraft, please do yourself a favor and buy it. It's absolutely marvellous

Regards,

H.M

++++1. I still swoon when I see the Lufthansa Cargo MD-11F landing at EGCC in bright sunlight as graceful as a swan amidst the smaller 737s, Embraers, et al.

Interesting. I helped with that. I'd always wanted to get it but always held it back due to the fact I only recently was able to transition to FSX and the investment was considerable. Now with it gone from PMDG I couldn't hold out longer and risk missing out on this beauty, could be that pretty soon it will vanish from shelves. So I took one box from aerosoft's bargain bin, luckily. Arrived today. Ready to roll out of the hangar.

Rui,

Take good care of her. There is so much she has to offer.

Also I miss the older style manuals pmdg used to offer. Still like going back to them.

Enjoy!

The fact that PMDG expect me to go back to FSX to run the MD-11 isn't good business sense at all imo.  I'd like PMDG to explain what costs are involved in making the FSX version available in P3D V3.1?

We've discussed this several times over.

See point #3 here:

http://www.avsim.com/topic/426637-pmdg-position-in-p3d-with-boeing-but-how-about-bae-or-md/page-2#entry2856561

It alludes quite clearly to the amount of work and discussions that much occur between the various parties, and the liability involved in developing for that platform. There is more detail out there that reference the legal opinions from our counsel regarding putting our products into P3D. It isn't simply a "recompile for P3D" type of issue.

I know some other developers out there have their own opinions on how to run things, but that's how they run their business, and not for us to comment on. If people don't like how we run things...well...directions are provided in the linked thread.

They HAVE explained it - repeatedly. Do a search. The aircraft never sold well in FSX - if it was not a case of losing money, then at best it barely made a profit. On that basis alone, it would probably make little sense to invest the time and money to update it for P3D.

Secondly, based on the licensing relationship PMDG has with Boeing, it may not even be possible for them to legally produce a P3D version of the MD-11. Although the aircraft was originally a McDonnell Douglas product, and was long out of production even when the FSX version was released, Boeing was rather restrictive on a number of things relating to this particular aircraft. (In ways they were not for the 747, 737 and 777). For instance, PMDG was not permitted to publish the aircraft's fuel burn performance figures in the accompanying FSX aircraft documentation - though they did hard-code it into the FMS.

Another possible issue, (and this is pure speculation), is that AFAIK, one of the developers who was responsible for much of the MD-11's coding parted ways with PMDG long ago. That could impact trying to develop a new product based on the original. That is not the kind of thing commercial software vendors publically discuss, nor do I expect them to.

Don't get me wrong - the MD-11 was one of my favorite PMDG aircraft in FSX, and I would love to see it in P3D, but I accept the company's statement that it is not going to happen. No amount of complaining is going to change anything, nor do I think the PMDG owes anyone an explanation. They have made a business decision, and that is just the way it is.

Same here, which is why I have reverted back to Steam just to fly this particular aircraft, as well as use P3D for the other PMDG-supported aircraft.

As a customer who bought the MD-11, will I still be able to re-download the MD-11 again from the PMDG website then?

Yeah. I can still re-download my copy of the FS9 747 if I wanted to.

Hi all,

Mourning the fact that the MD11 is no longer available.

It almost feels like the real thing being retired. I will just have to cherish the ones I have flying around my virtual world, what a great quirky wonderful aircraft. My go to airliner most of the time.

I wonder how much website space it takes to leave the poor old bird available as a legacy item, just for old times sake, and those folks who wish they had bought it when they could. I guess space is needed in the PMDG hanger for the 747-400v2 and the DC6...........Oh well!
