GNT 750 database different compared to AIRAC?

Recommended Posts

I just tried to fly into LOWI and noticed that while there are two rwy 08 RNAV approaches available online, Y and Z, the GTN 750 database only has Y while the latest Navigraph AIRAC only has Z. I wonder if anyone else is also running into problems due to the databases not being the same? I have to add that the GTN AIRAC I use is 1601 while I use 1602 for ProATC but I also tried older AIRACs with both the GTN and ProATC and the difference is always the same (Navigraph has Z, GTN has Y). I love the GTN 750 but it is apparently impossible to use it with addons that use Navigraph AIRACs...?

If it's an RNP approach the GTN doesn't typically have those

If you have an FMS equipped plane it can usually fly those types

speaking of RNAV/RNP..approaches...the NGX seems to have the most LNav/Rnav accuracy of any simulated aircraft.

Whats the tightest fully FMC driven approach have YOU have enjoyed?

Cheers,

Chas

You can't use Navigraph data with the Flight1 GTN. Period. It's Garmin proprietary data. He either has a subscription to the Garmin PilotPak's or made friends with someone who does.

The current cycle, 1602 has both Z and Y.

Ah! Good to know about 1602. Those are the right approaches indeed! Nice. So a difference of one number can indeed make a difference.

BTW On the official Flight1 forum Bert Pieke said that some differences also come from the Garmin database being based on Jeppesen and being made for GA, geared towards America, while the charts I use are not from Jeppesen and Navigraph is made mainly for FMC's in airliners, not GA. So some differences I see may also be seen by real world pilots. Flightsims aren't perfect but neither is the real world out there. ;)

Soooo what if we got the $25 GTN trainer from Garmin...what cycle is included with that?

Called Garmin, and per Garmin, 1512 is the latest and likely to stay that way for a year.

I wonder if we could extract the database from the Free ipad GTN trainer eRKMVdv.jpg

with something like the "IPhone backup extractor" which decodes and reveals the data from your last iTunes backup....just blue saying here.

As I repeated in several threads, there are many approaches missing in the GTN750 database outside US. I tested a lot of them in Europe and South America and I can assure that, no matter how updated your database is, that's a fact. The other day I was testing Pro-ATC/X from LOWI to LOWS. I was assigned RNAV Z RNP 33. No such runway at in all in the GTN750 database.

In such cases, the only workaround I know is to create the approach yourself by manually adding all the waypoints from the transition to last waypoint in the missed approach section to the flightplan and saving it as a new flightplan. If you happen to be assigned that runway again, you simply activate the new flight plan having care to also select the appropriate active waypoint. That's the only way I know.

GTN750 is a very nice tool, but definitely inadequate for business jets or turboprops with advanced navigation systems.

You can't extract the data from the iPad. Even if you could, it's in a different format. I doubt it's current anyway. The trainer DVD won't give you anything extra. These are real world avionics. You wanna play, you gotta pay. I'm confident that the physical gtn installed on an actual plane has all available approaches and departures.

So conclusion is that we must wait until flight 1 has released another AIRAIC? And if you dont want to wait you can buy an expensive subscription.

Not exactly...

If you want a "current" level Garmin database, you need a subscription, just like in the real world.

If you are OK with recently expired navdata, you can get a hand-me down copy from a RW pilot,

just like you can get copies of expired paper navigational charts, typically for free.

Once in a while, Garmin updates the GTN Trainer to a more recent code level, and at the same time

also updates the navdata.  Flight1 then follows and makes this updated Trainer package available

as part of a gauge update.

Thanks! And 1 last question for you (because i see your name everywhere on the forum with good advice) Is GTN 750 worth it if you mostly fly Private Jets? Like the CJ2 or Phenom etc..

That is a personal decision.

Clearly, Carenado meant for these planes to be flown with their provided avionics - but they are at best a "lite" simulation of the real gear.

In the real world, some private jets are being equipped, or retrofitted with Garmin avionics..  as a matter of fact, this is an increasingly common option.   G1000, G3000, GTN750 etc

Since Flight1 has come out with a really good GTN750 gauge, it is not a bad idea IMHO, to rip out the provided "lite" avionics and retrofit a quality GTN750.. assuming it can be placed in the cockpit panel in a convincing way.

The 550 Citation works well, the Hawker is pretty good also, and even the G1000 based Phenom is improved by this modification..

Have a look here for examples:

Yes i like to fly in these aircrafts. And while flying with them i am able  to messing arround with some charts for example and picking up some new experiences in the GTN 750.

I recently bought the Phenom 300 (With G1000) And the new CJ2 (Crappy fms) . But i am missing the real deal, for example G1000 doesn't work always 100% and the GTN 750 gives me a sign that it will be.

So i think i am convinced what to do! And you only live once, so why not.

But i have one question left if i bought it. Where is the GTN 750 Phenom 300 mod hihi? (CJ2 I already found)

And Bert thanks for all the information you provide me already in this small amount of time!
