OOM nightmare

Featured Replies

Guys there is some misinformation floating around. If anyone would know it would be John Venema from ORBX who has clearly stated that disabling scenery does nothing except take up time.. Unless its photo scenery and for that reason you only need to create 2 scenery profiles.

Just to help you or anyone else understand.... As has been alluded to, theres a 4 gb limit that can only be accessed. In theory , If NASAs super computers were able to run FSX or P3D they would still

  • Hey Angelo, let's look at your system carefully. 4.8GHz could mean HT enabled increases temps too much irrespective of AM used. Since HT does a little more work on a core and produces a few % more hea

Besides high resolution sceneries and/or aircraft I have found something that absolutely brings about OOMs is the amount of scenery you have active in your scenery library. I don't know how or why it works this way, but even if you are flying on the other side of the world to a particular scenery and it is active in your scenery library, the scenery you are nowhere near can be loading in the background and adding to your VAS usage. Not all scenery will, but some scenery will. If you use some type of process explorer to track the VAS, you will be able to see exactly which files are adding to the VAS.

It is inconvenient to do so, but sometimes you may be better off just editing your scenery.cfg to enable just the areas you will be flying to, from and perhaps scenery along your route of flight. Just checking/unchecking scenery may suffice(I'm not 100% sure on this), but you definitely don't need to uninstall anything, just disable it or remove the entry from your Scenery.cfg.

You can save different scenery.cfgs and label them for different geographical areas you may be flying.

Cheers,

+1. There are quite a few addon airports that use photo scenery.

Might also help to manage FTX if you have openLC and etc installed.

Ahmet do you have FTX vector installed?

I have GOOD news. Thanks everyone. After all yours recommendations applied and I lowered  the scenery settings after takeoff to minimum and  during decent raised  back to  Dense. Also , I disabled the SLI connection.

Just completed  10 hours and 40 minutes KJFK-PHNL flight with out any  OOM. After landing at the gate available memory still was 510Mb. :drinks:

Would be nice to know if it was the AM, high settings, or SLI caused it. Did you go for HT off or HT=ON and 21760?

Steve,

I left HT=ON and put AM 21760 in Confg.file.

First I will test with SLI. Then others.

which Core numbers  correlated  to  21760 ?

21760 gives the sim four full cores up one end of the chip away from your addons, keeps VAS and temperatures low too.

Mark, I will test the Scenery Config, Editor.

Steve,

I am utilizing "Process Laso"  "Select CPU affinity section" there are 15 CPU with check mark, only # 2 Core uncheck. Will I make any changes? or  Will I stop  Process Laso?

Don't lasso P3D or any other program that specifically manages it's own affinity setting.

Thanks I will uninstall.

With the 8 core, there's not much need to lasso anything. If the sim is up the end on the last four cores, the jobscheduler will find the four empty cores ahead. The sim won't produce more frames with more cores used, but it will use more VAS, make more heat, and fill in cores where the other processes might go. If you use lasso then be careful, check things work properly, some apps won't like being moved or having their priority altered.

Steve, I have left my P3D as default AM.  Processor is 4 core 2500K (no HT).  Is this the right action or do I need to enter a specific AM ?

Steve, I made  first test SLI enabled and disabled.

I lost steady 220 MB VAS if SLI enabled

Hey Mark. Four core no HT? Use no AM and if you can, keep addon exe's off of core zero by starting with a .bat on cores 1,2,3. OR use AM=14, and run addons as-is.

Even so, it's not 'that' massive. Should be able to run with SLI, give it a go.

Most of my addons are run on a separate computer but I could move a few smaller ones off core zero (EZDok, vPilot, LINDA).  Might be easier to use AM=14 unless that is not as good as the BAT option.

Definitely move those off zero Mark, if you are running with no AM. You'll be surprised what a little exe can do since they use networking.
