How to use flight plan created at Skyvector?

o.O  I have to give this a try.  I often sit at my sim thinking about how picking a parking spot from a list is so stupid.  You have no idea where they are, mostly, and just take a guess.  P3D should have it built in with a map of the airport and parking spots...you type in an airport, see a map, click your parking spot, done and done.  That's how it should be.

Gregg,

not sure if you know already but you can right click on the center of a parking spot in the map and select it for departure (including the whole airport if no departure is set or the flight plan is empty).

No need to use the list (I know you're referring to the stupid list in P3D or FSX, but I have one too  ).

Hi Vincent,

Thanks for the very kind words... Yeah - I try to plan and fly in P3D - as if I were doing it for real...

I've tried a few flight planners over the years but this is the longest I haven't used FSBuild (about a month) - I did invest in creating a bunch of custom profiles in FSBuild for the aircraft I fly... At this point though - with LNM and the great features it includes - I don't see myself going back - LOL - big step for me...

Yeah - as I've mentioned else ware - following how the ORBX Freeware guys have been populating airports - New England looks as if it's been hit by a shotgun blast lately - my money is on a New England Region as their next regional release - which will be OK by me... Hope to see you out there...

Scott

Hi Folks,

One final thought - in all fairness to Alex - his LNM is a full featured moving map navigation tool as well - so if you have an extra monitor or a spare PC I'm sure you could use it that way as well... I specifically needed a tablet app for my needs and I really like geo-referenced approach plates which tie me to FltPlan GO - hence some extra work required and two apps...

Scott

Thanks Scott and a SUPER !!!  thanks to Alex for his project contributions to our hobby.  Looking forward to installing his LNM on my client PC.  I will also use the Moving Map feature vs the FltPlanGO to simplify things a bit.  I currently pull up all my charts (approach plates, etc)  via my access to AOPA and the services they provide members.

BTW, highly recommend AOPA and their services to any lover of aviation whether real world or simulation or both !

Thank you, Scott, for your excellent summary on how to setup your planning before flight.  I tried LMN last night and it is great.  I will certainly use your summary to better effect now.  I did find LNM has a save plan as gfp option (garmin file I think) , that allows one to save the LMN plan into the directory where your Flight1 GTN is installed, but you have to point it there.  Then you can import this plan into the GTN750:  once you are at the Flight Plan Catalog in the 750, you click on Menu again and click import to load the saved file in.  It works yet I agree with you it is about just as easy to enter directly into the 750 and this allows you to check routing as you go.  Isn't FltPlan Go great?  No need for Foreflight, you get FREE aircraft following on map and approach chart, and you can easily jump to destination airport info, charts, procedures, etc.  I can't believe how good this is.  Cant wait for P3D 64 bit.   Things in flight simming can only get better with this technology.  I learned to fly years ago on gauges and floats.  How different it must be for the younger people now with all these tools.  Still doesnt give you seat of the pants but helps with the understanding of what is going on and how to navigate, etc.  Hope to meet you and say thank you personally for your advice at FlightSimCon in June.  Cheers,

Thanks but I tried Fltplan and Fltplan Go and after messing with fltplan site trying to set up a simple route and them asking for more info than I really need to know or know how to find just to put one aircraft on the list (they require you to make a list of aircraft and everything about that aircraft before you can proceed) and not getting it correct for half an hour or so I gave up and decided this just might be a bit to involved for fun.

Hi Mike,

Happy to help... I'll give that GTN save a try as well - just so I'm aware of how it works... It does kind of emulate real world practices today - as there are now a bunch of ways to load a Flight Plan off your tablet into either the GTN or GNS for navigation... I don't know anyone that doesn't fly without a tablet EFB of some sort today... I've had my ticket around 15 years and while I learned with a GPS in the cockpit - the first plane I really flew didn't have it... It had a Loran C without a moving map - yeah - while I can navigate without - the moving map just adds a whole new layer of comfort to the navigation picture... Enjoy it...

Hi Folks,

Yeah - FltPlan can take a little work to setup initially for the uninitiated... The overall concept is - you need to register for a free user account - then go down to [settings] [edit aircraft list] - there you have 10 slots to define aircraft - you can pick from the hundreds of performance profiles when you define the aircraft - I usually just use the official ATC type for the registrations so I see the type displayed when choosing an aircraft for a flight plan...

The relatively new twist is that for IFR RNAV Flight Plans - the FAA requires aircraft to file ICAO data (communication, navigation, safety equipment information) so you need to just walk through the screens and populate the required fields... As you can see in my image - I've only done that for some of the aircraft I currently fly...

Once the profile is created - it's pretty straight forward - after putting in a departure and destination - you're presented with a screen that contains routing - 90% of the time I just pick off this list... If not - I'll use something else like Little Navmap or Sky Vector to create my own custom route and then plug it in on FltPlan...

I've used FltPlan.com for years - even before they had a tablet app - if anyone needs help doing the initial setup - I'll gladly try and walk you through it...

Scott
