Immersion... Triple Monitors, 4K or single projector.

As a point of comparison, these are with a single ultra-short throw projector with two 32-inch HDTV LCDs for side monitors.

Very interesting Thread,  What Projector are you using ?    Very nice set-up

wow night enviroment is impressive

It is. Chris Bell has done some great work. I can't wait for Black Marble to come out.

Hi, are you running 3 multi-views? How do you get such good performance with just a 980 TI? Very impressive! I drive my 3 30" monitor (multi view) with a single 970 and only get about 20+fps.

Yes, actually four undocked views (the front projector, the two side monitors, and the 7-inch display). If I have no add ons running and no AI traffic or complex weather and normal autogen my frame rates are 80-90 fps. I think the 980TI is plenty powerful as a GPU. When I run it as I actually fly, which is with heavy sliders, weather, traffic, the GTN 750 GPS etc. I'm between 20-30 fps, and closer to 30. I think the driver of the GPU is a big part of that. I've had better results with some than others. This goes for stutters, too. I find AI has a big impact on smoothness with Night Environment (rather than frame rates).

For NE I also use a specific saved graphics config in P3D that increases the mesh size, texture resolution, no autogen etc. because you can't see any of that at night anyway. Lets me run the NE all out.

Thanks, Poppet! It's an Optoma ultra-short throw. I went through two other options before I found one that could project over the top of the sim without blocking the image. The projector is only about three feet from the screen, mounted on the ceiling of the room.

Very nice Gerard. Are you using a TVs for the 40" and 2 32"?

The 32's sit to the right of the 40?

Interesting

Thanks for all of the input. very impressive setup basementflyguy.

With the Dell 34" will a single GTX 970 drive it at usable frame rates?

Will I see a performance increase worth the money of a second GTX 970 in SLI?

Thanks

I don't think you will have a problem with a single card. As always, it comes down to how many add-ons you would be trying to use.

Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?

I'm using the same Optoma ultra short throw projector for watching movie in my living room. They're fairly cheap, only $650. Just wonder have you considered just buying three of these projectors to make a triple projector setup?

Very cool Indeed,  I bought one as well and I'm expecting it on Tuesday.  I take it your happy with the quality of it?

In my personal opinion, triple monitors gives you the best immersion. The wider the field of view, the more immersive the experience. Seeing the horizon tilt in the turn on a triple monitor setup really helps to trick your mind that you are sitting in the aircraft and that it is actually banking.

I run all four monitors from one GTX780 and get very good performance (except in dense clouds).

Actually, for the room my sim is in I had to get their pro-level ultra-short, which will give me 100 inches of 1080p display while only 2-3 feet from the screen. It was much more expensive, but sort of my only option. So I swallowed hard (and harder than I wanted to, frankly) and got it.

As for three projectors, again it doesn't work for the room I'm in. But I also like having the HDTVs on the side as windows. Feels more realistic to me to have the glass there and it makes the cabin feel more like a cabin.

If it's at all like the one I have,  you will love it. With the ultra short throws there is no zoom (at least not on mine) so you have to place it quite carefully. A few inches forward or back can change the image size quite a bit. But once it's in place it works really well.
