Remove photoreal scenery around add-on airports

Featured Replies

Hi to all,

many add-on airports do not only modify the airport afcad but also the surroundings of the airport. As I like using Orbx FTX and several orbx regions together with these airports, more than often tis looks ugly because the add-on airport sceneries do not blend seamlessly with the Orbx FTX scenery and often include ugly photorealistic patches around the airport fences which (as all photocenery) appear completely flat on the ground or from low altitudes. Sometimes you can identify the .bgl-files which modify the airport surroundings and you can simply switch them to off if you don't want the photoscenery around airports to show, but sometimes the add on airport airport will no longer work if individual files are switched off. So here's my question: Is there a general way how to force FSX to use the add-on airport afcads only without surrounding sceneries and show Orbx FTX scenery around the airport. It would be nice if there was a general method to embed add-on airports into Orbx FTX scenery without the need of fiddling with individual .bgl-files.

Regards draci

If you can tell us what airports they are then we can probably tell you what files to remove. They are generally in the airports scenergy folder and will have huge file sizes.

Before you go removing and deleting them, just to test them rename them from .bgl to .off and test.

For example a lot of LatinVFR airports come with photoreal exteriors that sometimes don't blend well. Depending on the coverage they may have one .bgl file or multiple ones to cover the area. For instance Miami_North.bgl, Miami_South.bgl, etc. Just change the .bgl to .off and fire up FSX and see if that works. If not, keep checking and trying that method rather than deleting files.

Thanks for your replies. There are many... For example the Malta V2 Airport from Daniel Chircop. The surrounding photoscenery is so ugly if compared to Orbx FTX and the FSX default Luqa Airport.

This might fall into the category of "stupid pet tricks", but wondering if is possible to instead use a tiny .bgl with the same name that has a mild color? Would it override the scenery you want, or experience some sort of distortion? Just a thought......
