December 25, 200520 yr >many people do use shoot or other VR software. Can they please post then just a single SHOOT profile for RC? Or just share their experience on the matter.
December 25, 200520 yr Hi, Ray:Let me start by saying that I was one of the pre-order group, and finally received my copy about a week after the mailing started. I haven't made a flight in years without RC.It seems that you are making some broad generalizations and speculations in some of your statements. For example, from what I read (and I may have missed some postings), J.D. explained why he had chosen not to go the download route, but I don't recall reading anything that said that it wasn't possible. Even J.D. stated in a post that he decided not to go the download route because of bad experiences years ago with the earliest versions of Radar Contact. Come on guys, this is the 21st century."If we'd decided to make it downloadable that would have excluded anyone who didn't have a fast DSL connection." For heaven sakes, no one has suggested that it be available ONLY through downloading! Think in terms of BOTH, Ray. Downloading methods merely boost early sales and provide quicker access for end-users. If you look back through posts about companies that offer both, I think that you will find that downloaders are able to start using the software weeks before those who buy CDs. It also puts money in the pockets of the developer weeks earlier, too."If we had asked a internet software retailer to sell it on our behalf I'm sure the price would have risen as they would have wanted a percentage and that might have made RC4 too expensive for some pockets." Since you say "If", I assume that it safe to say that you didn't. How can you be so sure that the cost of having to produce all those CDs and the associated shipping costs would not have been offset?"Damned if you do, damned if you don't." Again, think BOTH, as other major providers do, and you won't be damned one way or the other."It's very difficult to please everyone but JDTLLC have done what they feel is best." Best for whom? Certainly not all of the purchasers who have broadband connection (probably not more than a few thousand or so). I couldn't agree more that it is very difficult to please everyone. Just take a look at the posts around here. But this is certainly one area where it would be very easy to please almost everyone, just as Flight 1 and others have done for years.Yes, I think that we all understand why you did it. I just think a lot of us don't follow your logic.A very Merry Christmas to you and yours.Wilson

December 25, 200520 yr Will you all let it go with the download version? It seems that either one of the complainers either want RCv4 too much or not enough to purchase it. Ordering the CD is your only option right now and depending on where you live you'll have the CD in your hands in a few days or a little longer. It is not your task to maximize the productivity of someone else's business. They said there looking into it and eventually go for a download option. Period.A download option is NOT an easy task. It is not about just uploading a file and let the users download it.Just let it go, get over it and order the CD.Pat

I'm sorry to see this interesting discussion copletely deralied to shipment rant. I guess there will be more download demands here which should just be ignored for the sake of the RC4 features discussion.
December 25, 200520 yr Author Commercial Member the people who are enjoying all the new features are too busy having fun flying v4 to worry about or comment about whether downloads should be available in 2005.and it would be nice to see a discussion of what rc v4 can do, not how it can be shipped.but hey, you can buy it on a cd, have it shipped anywhere in the world, pay a dollar VAT in europe, and be up in running in less than (on average 10 days). and while you wait, you can read the manual, twice, and enjoy it right out of the box.and hey, i said i'd look into making it downloadable in 2006, when i have time to do the research, and time to test.seems the people who ordered it are happy, the people who will wait for the download will wait for the download. what more is there to be said.other than Merry Christmas y'alljd JD Read my blog
December 25, 200520 yr Right you are, J.D.I just wanted to point out some inaccuracies in Ray's post. It's tough trying to fly with RC4 and keep up with these posts at the same time.RAY, LET THIS DEAD HORSE RIP!!! ;-)Wilson

December 25, 200520 yr My favorite is certainly to ability to fly SID/STARs with AI interaction. Asides from that, I love too much to list it all here. The algorithms for AI seperation are great.People usually do not stress too much what they do like, but what further improvement can be made (like your parents years ago, when good grades are more or less expected, but bad grades get severly punished). At this point, RC is close to perfection...The only 3 things left to do in my eyes would be1) Ground Handling - I really would like to see the same level of detail on the ground, so I won't accidentally run into an AI plane. Maybe even airport closings based on severe weather and realistic delays.2) Controller voices, based on actual location - It would be incredibly cool to hear a french accent in France, a German one in Germany etc. I am sure that there will be a lot of volunteers (see FS2Crew), so it "only" the ARTCC logic would have to get implemented.3) Voice recognition - not an easy task, but with the MS SAPI interface also something that should be possible.I also don't care too much for the AdvDisp, but once you memorize or write down the keyboard assignments, you won't need it anyway.Cheers and Merry, Merry Ho-Ho-Ho.Pat(edit for typo)
