X-Plane general queries

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been using X-Plane 10.50 sporadically so i can check on its evolution as a simulator. This has now ended with the release of version 11, but that's another story.

One of the things that bugs me most is the lack of proper default airports such as the ones we can find in FSX or P3D. Okay, they're default and generally bad/poor but at least they have taxiways and a few gates here and there making them usable until i can find a proper addon or something similar.

The other day i flew into Lajes airport (LPLA), one of the major islands of the azores only to find out there's only a runway, no taxiways and no gates at all. If i start my flight at this airport, i cannot move the aircraft to a gate and i cannot connect to IVAO in the middle of the runway.

Is there any way to 'fix' this, are there any 'general' addons that add gates and taxiways to the most common and large airports around the world?

My other question is about ortho2xp (i think this is the name). Is this supposed to modify your global scenery (in a way like ORBX global does) so that it looks much better like most pictures i see? I have downloaded a global mesh which makes things look better already.

I guess i'm in need of some sort of beginners guide because although i have well over 10 years simming, my X-Plane experience is way way less than that.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you

Nuno

My approach has always been the same even with FSX because default airports are painful to look at...

Find airport addons and install them.

Fly from one to another.

As more and more become available, you can construct new flight options. There isn't a shortage of available airports to fly to and from and a lot of the free ones look pretty amazing.

Check the gateway as well: https://gateway.x-plane.com/airports/page

Someone has done LPLA, you just need to download and install per the instructions. You will also need all the libraries, as instructed.

A word of caution though, as Gateway airports are ones that are in or will be in XP.  The gateway is good for research.  For instance, this airport you fly out of is listed as being implemented in May of 2016, but it's a 2D airport, hence seeing what you do...purely for location and not detail.

You are better off going to the org and searching there.  There are also a great many designers who are receptive to requests, so send a kind word to them and maybe they'll grant you your wish. :)
