>>The fine art of "espionage" begins with the willingness and>>ability to listen for what isn't said... ;)>>well since people aren't supposed to be saying anything, I>didn't listen to what they said.WHIZZZZZZ!!!!That was the sound of my point going past, completely missing its intended target...There are many well-known and respected members of the development community (both payware and freeware) who're not usually reticent about posting their thoughts pro or con on virtually any topic that happens to arise here or on other websites and newgroups. The nearly total absence of responses or comments on certain topics however, speaks volumes to those who're willing to notice the silence... ;)I suspect that many of the aforementioned individuals have extremely sore tongues about now! :-yellow1

Well, it doesn't actually have anything to do with how they're recorded but played back. FS9 uses it's own psuedo-3D mixer. Moving to a standard 3D system like Dolby 5.1 would give developers more flexibility for designing audio content and users would have a richer experience as they move through 3D space.

sorry the point didnt go over my head... silence didn't mean the article was wrong. it means whatever you want it to mean.

*chuckles*Matt

Now the dust has settled a little, may I ask why the complete statement/press release from Microsoft Game Studios hasn't been published here, or have I missed it over the holidays?

Good point, has it been published anywhere? ... in full that is.Chris Porter:-outta

There was no press release. It was an email from the Microsoft Games Studio's publicity firm (Edelman and from Sara Ball specifically). It was basically a notice to us that there will be news released this week and that she wanted to speak to us about timing of the release. Some other sites got the same simple notice and made it into a "news" story of some kind. Once we confirmed with Sara that we could release the same snippet of "news", such as it was, we published it too. The big story is that more news will follow shortly.

The announcement is supposed to be released this week and coincidentally, the International Consumer Electronics Association (CES) show is in Las Vegas this week, could this be where the announcement is made?

>The announcement is supposed to be released this week and>coincidentally, the International Consumer Electronics>Association (CES) show is in Las Vegas this week, could this>be where the announcement is made?Good eye:The CES runs from January 5-8. Looks like Microsoft is an exhibitor, along with a seperate display for Windows Vista.http://www.cesweb.org/attendees/directory/...sp?exhibid=5327

Thanks for the info Tom, much appreciated.Cheers,Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern Australia

>Of course. That's why we didn't post it verbatum.I guess that's why the two excellent FS sites verified it was ok to announce its contents before they did so.

We'll just have to wait for this week's promised statement, and hope it's less ambiguous than the e-mail seems to have been: for publication/not for publication and holiday 2006/Q4 2006
