April 19, 20179 yr Author Just a quick heads up to say that I have reaffirmed our conclusions in that thread over on the LM forum. Not much more we can do except wait....and hope! Rob McCarthy should be aware of this thread by now so if you feel you might have something useful to add them please do so, either here or there. Mike

More likely the biggest video card company in the world will tell LM to drag there carcass into the 21st Century and put there little program out in 64bit...like every other decent program is. It is 2017...lol...any wonder they cant make the F-35 work maybe its OS is 32bit as well... Darren Howie

Hi Darren, Your comments are both unfair and betray a lack of understanding of the realities of this situation and they are unhelpful. Prepar3D 32bit remains a very 'decent' application in its own right. Yes, it's now showing its age, but there is no doubting its capabilities and flexibility of use which is a direct consequence of the original clever design concept and open architecture allowing user interventions and 3rd Party access. I think it is far more likely that LM hold great respect in the eyes of NVIDIA for their achievements in manipulating dated and inefficient code while maintaining impressive compatibility with 3rd Party products that were designed originally for earlier versions. This must have been a Herculean task and, for the most part, has proved to have been very successful. If or when we see Prepar3D 64bit then I suspect it will turn out to be a far more polished and finished product than many other sims out there. The ongoing success of its predecessor has allowed LM time to get most things right without the need for rushing to 'early access' and public beta testing. Think Aerofly FS2 and X-Plane 11, both 64bit products, both very impressive in their own right, both 'early access' and both unfinished. Also, please remember that where OOMs are concerned the finger of accusation should be directed both at the end user and any modifications presumed to have been made in the drivers by NVIDIA after 376.33. My understanding is that LM have code in place allowing the release of VAS memory which is no longer in use or required during a flight. While not eliminating entirely the possibility of an OOM condition arising it made it much less likely. Something changed in Nvidia's drivers which is interfering with this objective. If this can be fixed a highly customised, fully functioning and capable P3D 32bit will continue to be very usable alongside an evolving 64bit installation. Quite simply, we need this to happen. Regards, Mike

The point is 32bit has to be supported because many users will not be able to transition to 64bit until all the other companies come on board to provide the necessary addon support. That will take up to a year after 64 bit comes out.
