Advice regarding purchasing

Having a look at the questions, and attempting to view it from the viewpoint of those confused, I can somewhat see the cause of the confusion.

All the same, the logic of the message is as follows:

  • There exist users who have our products purchased for P3Dv3.
  • P3Dv4 is on the horizon.
  • Those who own the versions compatible with P3Dv3 will receive an updated version for P3Dv4 at no cost.
  • The above information is irrelevant to anyone who purchases after the P3Dv4 update because the update required for P3Dv4 will already be included.

Does that make more sense? In other words: if you're a current customer, there's no need to worry; if you've been waiting on the assumption we'd go against what we've been saying for years, there's no need to wait; should you choose to wait, you will not be impacted.

Hi Kyle,

As far as I'm concerned, the point was to understand as a not P3D owner whether if I waited directly to buy the v4 versions of the addons I would buy them at a higher cost than the v3 versions (which will be updated to v4 at no cost). So whether I would have any interest in buying the v3 now in vue to have the v4 update free.
I'm not the best when it comes to read between the lines in English but I eventually figured out that it would not be the case. So I can safely wait straight for the v4 versions.

Thanks.

The question is whether the v4 will be sold at the same price as the v3.

If it is the case, then no need to buy the v3 to get the free update, buy straight the v4 when it is released.
However, if the v4 was more expensive than the v3, then it would be wise to consider buying the V3 now and get the free update to v4.

And that is what I'm wondering.

Edit: I think I can safely deduce from Ryan's quoted below that the addons for P3D v4 will be sold at the same price as the ones for the v3.

1) it wasn't going to be sold for LESS, that's for sure

2) no sense if you plan to buy v4 immediately and never use v3 again (and until all addons I use are compatible, that will not be the case)

3) why on earth would one NOT want to just get the v3 one which you will be able to use now and continue to use on v3, if you get the v4 one free anyway?

Thanks for airing that and clarifying that, Romain, as I bought the FSX-SE version and like you was humming-and-haa-ing whether to go for the v3 version now.

Hi Carlos,

Actually the one thing that has decided me to eventually switch to P3D is the 64bit. Until now, I'm using FSX steam which I can make run completely stable with good performances. I believe that P3D v3 already brings some good improvements with regards to performance and graphics but I invested too much time, efforts and money to get FSX at a good level with high end addons to switch to something that gets the same limitations in terms of VAS management (my main issue with th sim).

P3D v4 on the other hand will bring a significant improvement in this matter.

I have no personal interest in getting something for the P3D v3 as I will never use it. I will continue to fly on FSX until P3D v4 is fully up with the proper aircrafts and scenery addons.

However if I can save (or at least avoid to loose) some money in the process by carefully managing my purchases, I will as I expect some quite substantial expenses for P3D v4!

Happy that my question helped someone else.

If I had known about P3Dv4 a few months ago, I would not have bought PMDG's 747...I would have waited until now. As an FSX user, I now have to pay for it again. I am cool with paying for the 777 and 777-300 expansion again as I have had it for sometime and feel I have gotten my money's worth from the product.

But 747 does sting a little bit as it is still new.

Hi Carlos,

I am in the same boat as Romain -- I only use FSX but I am thinking of trying P3D V4 due to its improvements.  I was wondering the same thing -- if I buy the P3D V3 version of an aircraft now will it be less expensive than if I wait until V4 comes out.  It was Robert's remark, "Again I want to stress that PMDG customers who have already purchased our products for Prepar3D v3 as of the day we release the Prepar3D v4 compatible version will receive the update at no cost [my italics]"  that got me wondering.

The responses to Romain's question have clarified the issue -- I can wait until V4 comes out; the PMDG aircraft for V4 will be no more expensive than the V3 versions.  (I do own the P3D version of the 777 which was sold at release time for a discount, but no more).

It will be the same. As Kyle clearly wrote. Forget P3Dv3 exists for a minute, if you only had V4, your purchase would be the same. Purchasing a V3 plane days before V4 is available  will be a waste of HDD space, that is all.
