Are the development capabilities endless in v4?

Featured Replies

I wanted to bring in a small quote from Mir at FlightBeam into this discussion from one of the posts in the PMDG's thread. It appears that this comment is referring to current hardware capabilities. I wonder what we're in for in the future based on this statement?

In its current form, it's not possible to create a full size airport with 100% P3D v4 SDK without negative consequences for customers.

Without understanding what SDK elements will cause negative consequences, we're pretty much in the dark as to what Mir actually means and what it could mean to us. Is it because something is broken? Is it because 100% SDK compliance would be beyond today's hardware capabilities? We're at a loss without that context.

V4 is just another chapter in the book. I wonder what a V7 or V10 looks like (128 bit??), then holodecks will be next?? <grin>

It does not serve us well to say what is impossible, rather to press on, dig deep, and help one another. LM have shown great interest in the development community, and developers that push the limits will drive SDK's/core possibilities further. Of course there are limits within current situations, but there will never be growth if we submit to the limits themselves.

Keep the ideas going strong, let Intel and NVidia play "catch up" once again.

Not to mention that he may not know how to use it. Way too broad a statement, IMHO. He should state that "it's not possible FOR ME to create......."

Not saying he is wrong but very vague statements are never helpful and lead to lots of speculation.

i think they will look like it does today, slightly optimized, same graphic engine and the same lightning  we really need a new graphic engine just look at UNIGINE!

Or he may be referring to the notion that the SDK has lost a few capabilities along the way. Which is why developers sometimes resort to FS9 (or even earlier) methods. So if you build the same airport using only the V4 SDK, it will have less eye candy and/or functionality.
