February 27, 200620 yr Hu Bruce,If you are worried about that then put GE in with confidence and see how it looks by just installing on the top of what you have got.If it looks strange, which I doubt will be the case, then we can help identify what needs fixingI would supsect you can install over what you have without any major issues. I doubt if even I would notice anything wrong.
February 27, 200620 yr I'm sure eveything will be just fine ricardo if you install GE on your rig without having to mess around removing and installing files.Let me know what you think of things once you are settled in with it.
February 27, 200620 yr >Hi Peter, my problem as related in another thread is that I>have heaps of third party stuff in these folders that I don't>want to lose. If I roll back to defaults it will be a major>hassle to recover the them post GE install and, furthermore if>I do mess with the two texture folders post GE install will>this creat hassles with GE?>>BrucebYou don't replace the texture FOLDER, you simply copy/paste the default TEXTURES into that folder, so there's no need to lose a single extra addon texture.Allcott
February 27, 200620 yr Gosh, I'm relieved to read the posts here about FSScene. Thought my post further up might have attracted some flaming, but I've always failed to see what the attraction was for them What with their garish, unrealistic colours, and misaligned autogen. The former, I realise is subjective, and misaligned autogen is only a problem for those who turn autogen on. Nevertheless, despite that, there are, inexplicably, a handful of glowing reviews dotted here and there. It actually took the release of BEV to kick FSScene in to take some action on the autogen alignment.. . .the power of competition no doubt.
March 10, 200620 yr Hi Alcott-I'm attempting to reinstall the original textures from CD4 as you have described. I dragged the world.cab onto the desktop from the CD. I can double-click on it (world.cab) and it opens with all the textures visible inside; I didn't need to 'extract' anything as I would a zip file. Is this correct? It looks like I can copy and paste the textures into the correct texture folder, yes? Thanks,Mark
March 10, 200620 yr This works like a charm: TexPand2http://portal.fsgenesis.net/index.php?name...ewtopic&p=15965
March 10, 200620 yr I have FScene installed and installed GE over top with no problems. Initially I was not happy with the coloration in GE textures in my neck of the woods, and in some areas such as foothills the coloration looks as if the area were spray painted overtop of the textures. Doesn't look as natural as what I had before, but with the autogen alignment and other nice touches it's definitely a net plus. I also use an old california landclass that is still the best.Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. March 10, 200620 yr Updated Message to Peter Wilding:Peter,I uninstalled BEV, then installed GE. Left FS scene alone, basically because I've sort of forgotten where I installed it. Did not install the night textures because I prefer Zinertek's (matter of taste). No problems whatsoever. Overall, a great and convenient product. Thumbs up from me. ricardo
March 13, 200620 yr >A point to remember about GE and Fscene. Over at the Flight 1>forums everyone is talking about backing up the>World/Sceery/Texture folder and reinstalling the default>textures before installing GE. BUT some of the files that have>been made available for d/l for Fscene also modify the>FS9/Texture folder and the .agn autogen files. If you don't>change those back to default as well you're asking for>trouble!>>AllcottIs there a step by step on this?BTW, does some other product (besides a FSCene type) copy over onto any of these files? If so, you might be mucking up another product by going back to defaults.* Orest Orest Skrypuch President & CEO, UVA www.united-virtual.com
May 7, 200620 yr This thread has gone off the boil - but I'd like to 'warm it up' again, if I may. What a pity I discovered it after buying everything FScene has on offer (i.e. the 3 "Two Continent" packs). And I didn't even know of GE until a few days after buying the FScene volumes. I am a great fan of Flight Environment and, especially given the difference in price, would have gone for GE straight away. Ain't it always the way?!!!On my setup I find the FScene colours OK, BTW, (maybe in part because I have things so that I have a constant slight haze in weather settings) but I have complained about the repetetive nature of some of the terrain - Ruud has said he will make some new bitmaps to correct this.My very considerable outlay (sob!!) would not stop me ditching the lot for GE, if I thought GE to be a vast improvement. What I wanted to ask is, what else does FScene install, outside the Scenery-World-Texture folder? Fortunately, I backed up that folder before I installed FScene (It had a number of other modifications in it) so can just replace my current texture folder with the backup, but I I seem to remember seeing other stuff installing itself elsewhere??Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 7, 200620 yr Hi there,Thanks for the vote of confidence about FE. It's much appriciated.I'm not sure if FS Scene installs antying outside of the textures?Hopefully, somebody will know and reply here for you?
May 7, 200620 yr Peter,FE is one of the best add-ons I have bought in the past 2 years - up there with Ultimate Traffic & FS Genesis mesh. I've had it for about four weeks and am still gawping at the transformation: it makes the whole of FS2004 look better somehow, terrain included.. I 'promote' it when I can - in newsgroups and so on. Hats off to you people who put the package together - it deserves every success.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 8, 200620 yr Having read quite a bit about GE, and given that it is quite reasonably priced, I decided I would go ahead and buy it, even though I only just installed all of FScene as well. I now have three texture folders in the scenery-world folder: the "default" (well, with various freeware additions I made over the past year or two - particularly from wood_desert_tex.zip and aeu7.zip); the FScene version, installed onto a copy of the "default"; and now Ground Environment, again installed onto a copy of the "default" (not onto FScene).I thought some people might be interested in my comparisons. It has been easy for me to go to various locations, save the flight and repeat it after changing from one texture folder to another. I have built up a series of screenshots so that I can make close comparisons - I could post some of them if anyone is interested enough. My general impression is that, on a quick glance, GE is much nearer to the default than is FScene (no surprise) - indeed in some places the difference is quite marginal. The colours are certainly more muted than FScene: to be fair to FSc, I have also been looking at aerial (real-world) photos too and although I really am allergic to some of the garish greens I have seen in some other scenery addons in the past, the colours in the FScene setup are much the closest to real life - particularly when the sun is shining. I do find Fscene a bit too repetetive in places, though Ruud has said he can make some corrections to this; it's swings and roundabouts in my opinion.I am not going to start a detailed summary here, but the unexpected end result is that I am happy to have ended up with both GE and FSc, and to be able to swap between them every now and again with just a couple of folder name changes. If I had to choose between FSc & GE it would be tough, but I think I would go for FScene to be honest. All very subjective, I know.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
May 8, 200620 yr Thanks for that Martin,Very interesting indeed.you may be interested to know that we are currently working on an expansion pack for GE that will add a lot more textures as user options and some new fixed texture sets also which in particular will enhance areas like the Tropical regions such as Miami. The more exciting expansion pack features are the abiility to adjust colours and create your own texture sets as well as importing 3rd party textures or your own and ajusting those too.It will allow you to do things like colour balance and match photo real scenery or any other texture sets to the GE colour base sets or the other way around. In other words, if for example you like some of GE textures better and want to make only some work as a user definded set with FS Scene then you will be able to make the GE colours work to match the FS Scene colours. You will aslo be able to put some hue's on the ground textures to give a more overcast or sunny look for example and give a blue "sphere" look if you want.Added to this will be the abliity to import textuers for easy manupulation and colouring to adjust brightness, contrast hue. colours etc of any texture such as an aircraft or building or autogen texture.Another things you may like is the ability to match the photo real FS textures like Seattle Airport to your base texture set. This will mean for example you can make those FS9 photoreal textures match the FS Scene textures or GE textures as the case may be.One really nice feature will be the option to make and easily create your own sky textures automactically or manually. And yet another feature will be the ability to import and change the colours or the water and the water reflections to match the new environment you are seeking to make. There will be randomize options and user sets and pre-set texture options too.
May 8, 200620 yr Sounds excellent Peter! Ideally, I wish I could mix FScene and GE together and pick what I like best from the two, but it would be very hit and miss at best I think. No idea what would happen if I installed GE into a texture folder which had FScene in it already - but at over 1GB apiece, I think I have enough folders to be going on with!I do feel that FScene let itself down by creating some wonderful scenery - like the rice paddies across Asia - but then letting them repeat so often within a given area you think you are flying over a huge piece of patterned wallpaper. GE seems to have avoided this to a greater degree. Time to go fly a little and enjoy....Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
