March 2, 200620 yr I'm not going to address every issue you mention, but there are patches out now to correct a number of the issues you describe. I have both BEV and GE, and it is my opinion that BEV looks a bit better (although repetitive at times) from high altitudes; whereas GE has a better overall look- particularly at lower altitudes. They are both variations on a theme, no reason why a person cannot go back and forth between them as they see fit. Kind of like different flavors of ice cream. ;-)
March 2, 200620 yr I have been using both. For flying around San Diego or Phoenix I am using GE because it looks more like what I remember seeing in real life flying there. For flying up here in the Pacific NW though I far prefer the BEV sets, especially selecting the textures with more trees, makes KHIO and KONP area look especially good while GE tends to leave the Pacific NW looking too dried out.Zane Dr Zane Gard Sr Staff Reviewer AVSIM Private Pilot ASEL since 1986 IFR 2010 AOPA 00915027 American Mensa 100314888

March 2, 200620 yr I did an extensive test a couple of days back and tried default BEV and then GE one after the other in various locations around the US. My conclusion was that to me, BEV had generally higher detailed or resolution contryside textures although from 2000 feet upwards I did actually prefer the look of GE although it was a very close call.As for the towns and cities, GE had probably more or at least more noticeable autogen (this is post patch) and BEV seemed to have slightly more varied autogen as the textures it was placed upon weren't as uniform in the way the buildings are lined up.This is only summer testing as I don't have any other BEV addons. I'll be flying mostly GE from now on but I'm glad I have the choice.
March 2, 200620 yr Sorry to hear that you are not happy with the product. As far as the Palm trees in Colorado go, it has already been fixed and you can download the latest patch 10.03 which fixes that, amongst other things, like, a lot more residential houses and more trees, all precisly aligned. This weekend we will release an all-in-one update, included in the wrapper with the correct version number. We will announce when it's available for download, existing customers can ofcourse just use the re-install option with their provided key.If you are having difficulties, contact me on : [email protected] and I will see if we can sort something out.Much regards,
March 2, 200620 yr Everything you say might be write Scott, but if you remove the xenophobic references to the US you might like to consider that the rest of the world is actually bigger than the US and many simmers prefer to fly OUTSIDE the US, and there are clear problems using BEV textures in any area other than the US. Neither BEV nor GE claim `better` only `different` and that GE does provide in spades. Thw whole World wide.EDIT: That's a libelous statement. Do it again and you are out of here. My tolerance for this kind of stuff has reached absolute zero. Allcott
March 2, 200620 yr HelloI have all four BEV volumes and GEAs far as the uk is concerned GE is the best i have seen my sim look.I am using the VFR Terrain 19 mtr mesh along with Ray Taburets UK_Landclass V 2 and it looks very good.

March 2, 200620 yr Hello.Well after doing much reading about GE and BEV in this forum the last two days I took the plunge and purchased GE to give it a try.I have been using BEV prior to this and have been happy with it, but the screen shots looked pretty good with regards to GE. So, since Flight 1 is the distibutor I figured it was worth the risk to give GE a try. After flying around for a few hours now, I have to say that I really don't see what all the fuss is about. The textures in GE are good, but no better than the BEV ones. In some ways I personally feel that BEV looks more real from higher altitudes than GE.Also, when flying in Colorado, GE is putting Palm trees there! There are no palm trees in Colorado. Just too high and cold for those. Also, I can't really see a whole lot of difference between the FS9 default summer textures and the GE ones. The do add alot of color to the ground that the default ones don't, but I still prefer the BEV ones for the most part. The fall and winter textures in GE are better, but the snow in hard winter didn't cover all the mountains as well as the hard winter textures in BEV do.The autogen in GE seems kind of sparse (even with the AG update installed). I have all my sliders at the max settings, so there should be more trees and buildings. I get more with BEV.I am using UT for the USA, Canada, and Alaska, and I restored to all my FS9 default textures before running the GE configurator. But that didn't help with the lack of autogen. Also, with GE, my UT roads seemed to get obscured more than in BEV. BEV isn't perfect with regards to this either, but the roads are more precise and blend better with the BEV textures. Now, I still think that GE is a good product, but if you already own BEV, I just don't see any reason to switch after using both now.So, for those of you who don't own the BEV ones, GE might be a good option, but I still thnk the BEV ones look more realistic to real life flying.I'm going to mess with GE for a few more days, but if my opinion doesn't change from what I have seen so far, I will probably take GE off my system and get a refund on this one.Just my insite.Scott :-)ATP/CFII/DA20 Type Rated - Instructor Pilot - USAFA (KAFF), Colorado Springs, CO & at KCOSAOPA #00956593, since 1987Background in Corporate, Airline, and General AviationGamming System Specs: (Built this one myself)AMD Athlon-64 3000+ (Overclocked to 2.35ghz)Gigabyte K8NS nForce3-250 Chipset 8x AGP Main Board2GB DDR400 PC3200 Memory (400mhz)160GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive 16x DVD-ROM Audigy 2ZS Gammer Sound Card (Set at FULL acceleration)5.1 Channel Surround Sound Speakers256MB GeForce-5700 8X AGP Video (Overclocked: Core 260mhz RAM: 430mhz)Cotytech Gaming CaseCH Products Yoke, Rudder Pedals, Throttle QuadrantSaitek Cyborg Gold Joystic for Helo's & Stick equipped aircrafteDimensional Force Feedback HeadsetsSaitek Eclipse KeyboardWindows XP Pro SP2Home Network for using the Instructor StationFS9 Sliders maxed with other settings at their best quality positions.Antalasing: 2XAnistropic Filtering: 4XResolution: 1280 X 1024 32bitTexture load speed: 200Average FPS: 25 (Locked)

March 3, 200620 yr OK, my original intent of this post was not to "BASH" or say how horrible GE is over BEV or how horrible BEV is over GE.My intent was just make a point that both GE and BEV are good products, but "in my opinion" I don't think GE is leaps and bounds above BEV.This is not to say that I would encourage people not to use GE. I just personally think that the BEV textures look more realistic.Like I stated earlier, GE may be a better product for some.As far as the other issues that I mentioned. I thought I installed all the updates available so far and I am still getting palm trees in Colorado and very little autogen.I even manually installed the FS9 defaut textures first (since I keep a backup of them on hand) and then ran the GE configurator. As far as BEV, I am just syaing that if you allready own that product, GE may not be a huge improvement since it is comparable. All that I know is, I am not getting the level of detail that I have seen in the photos on the GE website. So I really don't know what the big fuss is about GE.As far as the rest of you out there who fly outside the U.S.A. GREAT! Get GE if it enhances your sim experience.I have flown in the real world for over 20 years now, all over the place, and I just feal that from higher altitudes BEV depicts the ground scenery a little more "realistic."Again, this is just my opinion. Others are going to have a different one about GE vs. BEV.I'm still going to give GE a try for a few days and see if It grows on me. If not, I'll go back to BEV.Scott :-roll :-cool :-hah
March 3, 200620 yr Commercial Member Hi Denny, well, at this time of the year it's easier because if I do get upset I just have to go downstairs and chop some firewood - like a good Canadian :-bang However, I've had my share of (summertime) "heated exchanges" in various fora too so I wouldn't consider myself exactly a saint :-halo Cheers, Holger
March 3, 200620 yr I Own and like BEV. It does a pretty good job, along with UT, with my area in the U.s., the northeast. With that said, I purchased GE when it first came out and returned it shortly afterwards for a refund. Well, I repurchased it based on what I've been reading and the patches etc. Having lived in Vegas for 3 years and done quite a bit of real world flying in and out of the city, GE is better in the west and BEV is better in the Northeast. (opinion)HOWEVER, GE just slams my system with the blurries! I don't have that issue with the BEV textures or default, using UT or Not. I am very proficient with tweaking my system and FS and I just can't get them to go away. Here's my system and stuff:AMD Athlon 64 3500+NForce 939 Mobo 1Gig FSB 1Gig PC3200 ram (2 x 512 in dual channel slots)Sapphire Radeon X800pro video card. 256meg.
