Wide View Aspect or not

Recommended Posts

I fly on a 55" 4K TV and I have WWA set to on... Actually I've always had this set on, even when I had a 30" 16:10 monitor as well. Just looks and feels right, and I use a zoom of about 0.55 - 0.65 depending on which plane I fly. Even with TrackIR.

Exactly the same with me.  Same size TV, same zoom level with WWA on.  It feels and looks right - to me.

As others have pointed out, wide view on and zoom 1.0 is correct. But, it's a starting point. At these settings move your eyepoint around until it looks right. But then you have no peripheral vision (the realism nuts seem to overlook this) so, zoom out a bit (0.6 or 0.7) then you'll have to move your eyepoint forward to compensate.

If it looks right, it is right!

How does one move their eye point forward or back using TrackIR? I have tried this using the key commands but as long as TIR is running it reverts to the original position.

Chaseplane, EZDOK or Opus Camera will allow you do do this.  You need a camera utility.  Wherever you set the pilot viewpoint to using these utilities, will be what TIR uses to center itself.

A zoom value of 1.0 might be correct , but then the far ( less sharp ) distance is getting to close.

Therefore I use 0.8. Best is 0.7 , but then the side stretching is getting to obvious.

Completely agree.  Peripheral vision is paramount in any situation involving driving/piloting a vehicle (except a train).

This is where larger screens really add value.  A 0.6/0.7 zoom value is very different on a 55' screen than it is on a 32'  - or even a 40' screen.  Bigger is better in this instance which is why 'ideal or correct' zoom value is a pointless argument unless you are comparing apples with apples.

Did you see the vids ?

Then you know that 1.0 is the ideal zoom , regardless size of the screen.

Perhaps you mean FOV ?

The videos do not say that!

I have owned all three of them over time and would recommend Chaseplane.

If I understand what you're asking, you can edit the [view] coordinates in the aircraft.cfg to set the default eyepoint for that specific aircraft. When ever I install a new aircraft, customizing the view to work with my TIR/seating position is the first thing I do.

Thank you Odourboy, may try this option first and see how it works out for me.
