March 9, 200620 yr Hello Gang! Can someone provide some input as to which aircraft addon is better between SGA (freeware), and JCA (payware)? I am looking for the best model, as well as flight model to match with the Eaglesoft MD-80 panel (which I have not purchased yet). Any recommendations are appreciated.Sincerely,Dennis D. March 9, 200620 yr Id say SGA is easier onn the frames, but harder to find. Im not crazy over paying the price for the JCA and only getting a model and model only. Chase Barnett
March 9, 200620 yr Hello Dennis,I'm sure you'll get all kinds of opinions, and mine is nothing but one more. I do own the JCA MDs and also the SGA MD. It would be subjective for me to say which one looks better on the outside. I'm partial to the JCA look, but the SGA looks good too. One thing I noticed on the JCA when going to add fuel for the first time was that it showed out of balanced. Posting to the JCA forums resulted in someone telling me that it had to be like that to provide the feel of an MD within FS9's limitations. This doesn't bother me, but it may bother you. The JCA MDs are very stable to fly. Just to compare, unlike other payware aircrafts that do not include a panel, the JCA MDs do not use any FS9 default .air files. I'm sure you're also aware of the other payware MD offerings in the market. Consider those too. March 9, 200620 yr SGA, JCA, it might be more helpful for others reading this if links were put in, or at least the companies names in full, this way it would help us and others to know what you are actually talking about.thanks,
March 9, 200620 yr I lean slightly towards the JCA, Jet City Aircraft, but the SGA, Stewart Global Aircraft, are good too. However, I thnk if you buy the one Eaglesoft panel version you can get the other one free. That way you could have both models and pick the one you like better,Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
March 9, 200620 yr If you haven't taken a look at it yet:The Flight1 'Super 80' (designed by Coolsky) is a surefire winner; fantastic aircraft with impeccable support.
March 9, 200620 yr Flight 1 Super 80 - no wingviews, which a lot of folks want now.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
March 9, 200620 yr SGA MD80 (and all other SGA releases) are easy to find over on "all nodes busy.com"...you know, that other download site. ;)
March 9, 200620 yr Author Commercial Member >no wingviews, which a lot of folks want now.Nothing personal, Lee, but I don't get it. What is with WINGVIEWS? What is the attraction? Why would I want to pretend I'm a bored passenger? The Flight1 MD80 is very very nice.http://www.ldsflyingclub.com/siggies/ds.gif The SUPPORT FORUM for Level-D Simulations products: http://www.leveldsim.com/forums
March 9, 200620 yr I have used both SGA and JCA for some time, and they are both very good in terms of model and flight dynamics. I had also used the Aldus Samuli panel (linked above)as my regular panel with both aircraft. This is the best freeware panel available but a little bit of a challenge due to limited support documentation. I now have the Lonny Payne panel and am very happy with it, in both JCA and SGA MD's. (you get both for the price). The main differences between JCA and SGA are that JCA has a few additional modelling features which add to the airport ambience, a huge range of models and repaints, and a very helpful and friendly support website and forum. Just have a look at the number repaint requests and the rapid response by the forum members. These repaints are of excellent quality as well. Obviously, the big advantage of SGA is that it is freeware but could be more difficult to get new repaints for. This probably doesn't help much, but you can't really go wrong with either package.Warren Warren
March 10, 200620 yr Nothing personal, Daryl, but I don't get it. What is with this insistence on STAYING IN THE FLIGHT DECK during the whole flight or even during replays? What is the attraction? Why would I let my quest for the "total pilot experience" go that far? Airplanes are sort of a cool deal, wings included. P.S. Please say that you never insisted that one must stay in the flight deck and that, for example, spot and tower views are "acceptable" non-cockpit views. Why? Because I would really like to understand why exterior views of aircraft components (e.g., wings, engines, flaps, spoilers) are deemed acceptable while interior views of the same aircraft components are deemed unsophisticated and unimportant.
March 10, 200620 yr Author Commercial Member I never said they were unimportant - just wondered why one would want to pretend to be a passenger? I never said one should STAY IN THE FLIGHTDECK, just wondered why one would want to pretend to be a passenger.SPOT VIEW? Not really a real world "real" position, is it? When's the last time you hung out at 37,000 feet about 500 feet back of the aircraft whizzing along at 460 knots and .80 mach with a 37 knot quartering wind?TOWER VIEW? Yeah - when's the last time you got to sit in the TOWER? The TOWER is cool. Being a pax is not.I still don't get it. If I want a WINGVIEW, I'll book a real flight aboard a real plane...But enough of these confections... these bon mots... this thread is about MD80's...http://www.ldsflyingclub.com/siggies/ds.gif The SUPPORT FORUM for Level-D Simulations products: http://www.leveldsim.com/forums
