Windows update has broken P3D3.4 - how to start over?

Featured Replies

I have had the issue that a lot of people have reported with a recent Windows 10 update, that cause P3D to stop working.

One piece of advice was to uninstall the update, which I did.  Now P3D runs, but my throttles, yokes and joysticks are a total mess (jumping all over, all my FSUIPC mapping does not seem to work properly)

I think the next (more complete step) is to reinstall P3D entirely.  My question is; how do I do this most effectively?  Also - do I need to reinstall all my addons as well?

What a mess... any help would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Daniel

Daniel, to uninstall, do as the link suggests. And yes, all your add-ons must be uninstalled/installed IF they're in the p3d folder.

Since I have been having issues also, I just wonder if this stupid windows update trap will manifest itself again with a new installation.

Are you running window 10 insider, not good for flight sims and there`s no general update out yet , but there`s a big one in the pipe window creators fall update .

Please see this thread

And sorry to hear that you are having windows issues.  Trust me your sim can be fixed.  Earlier this year an update to my surface pro 3 killed its wifi card for good (internal MS support tech threads kinda knew about this - don't ask how I know)

See if the link below pasted helps you out.

Also don't delete the FSUIPC mapping file.  You may have to delete the p3d controller file and when P3d is re-run it will create that file automatically and then install FSUIPC.  Worst case scenerio is that you will have to remap controls in fusipc again.

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the support.  I'll bite the bullet and do things the right way.

Wish me luck!

The Windows 10 Creators Update pretty much made my PC unusable.   With some digging, I found out that the Creators Update doesn't play nicely with older hardware, and this PC's motherboard is about 9 years old.

It did set a restore point so I was able to roll it back and all has been well ever since.

It boofered up P3D v3 here on a recent ASUS Z270-based system, at least with third-party acft, but left P3D v4 alone.  Both (either) of KB4038788 and KB4040724 MicroShaft "updates" had this effect.  There are some threads in the Prepar3d forums about this...LM is working with M$ to try and coax them to find a solution for the mess thay have forced on us...again.  Uninstalling the upgrade and disabling Windows Update in the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services panel seems to have fixed it and stopped the immediate attempts to reinstall the updates I just got rid of.  If prior experience is any indication, Windows Update will enable itself again without asking and I'll be fighting it again soon.

Honestly, upgrading to the 7700K was not worth the price of admission--having to leave the stable and user-managed Win7 environment for Windows 10 Microsoft-knows-best Hell.
