Help with P3d V4 4K resolution Dynamic Lights

Featured Replies

Those of you having DL issues, are you using SSAA or MSAA?

If I use any SSAA setting I notice my GPU begins to suffer. MSAA results in no impact on performance for me with DL.

I can’t imagine a titan X (p) is that much better in performance than a 1080.

I have to defend the GTX980Ti here.... an upgrade to the 1080Ti is not cost effective for the minor gains you get.  I am very happy with the 980Ti and have no problems with dynamic lighting with most sceneries.

I have a 980ti as well - would you care to share your settings?  I get smashed by DL at night at any add-on airport.

There may be some further optimization that can be done to DL within P3D, but then again, perhaps it is already as optimized as it is going to get.

The simple fact is that DL is computationally intense - it will put a heavy load on any GPU, and combining it with 4K resolution and a high AA setting is going to stress all but the most powerful hardware - and using a complex aircraft and scenery only makes the problem worse.

A Hyundai automobile with a 2 liter engine may be perfectly adequate for most day-to-day driving tasks, but if you try to tow an 8000 pound full-sized travel trailer, you would be lucky to be able to be able to go more than 10 MPH, and even then, the poor engine would probably overheat and break down quickly.

There is no real “fix” that could be applied to the Hyundai - it is what it is. One would either need to considerably lighten the load, or preferably, use more suitable “hardware”.

What one would need to efficiently tow that kind of load is something like a Dodge 3500 pickup truck, equipped with a 6.7 liter Diesel engine and a heavy duty transmission.

Likewise with DL, which, (when combined with high screen resolutions and high graphics settings), is going to require biggest, fastest “beefiest” GPU that one can afford - something in the 1080Ti class (or better).

Hi everyone!

I got a 7700 (4.9) 1080 and a 4K as well. A couple of nights ago I made some adjustments in my settings and was very satisfied - 60 fps in the intense Seattle region with "awful" weather. Clearly SAA don't work with DL but with MSAA it was a joy!

Yesterday I installed Majestics Dash8 Q400, Nantucket from IBlueYonder and ORBX Block Island and hell broke loose!
Prepar3d lowered my texture settings to 512 without explanation and a lot of stutters. I got a Hyundai again :)
Despite changing back to 2048 and verified MSAA it was a nightmare again. The FPS dancing around 25-60 but with really annoying stutters. Don't know why or what but it's something that's not in order.

I dont blame the installed addons above - maybe the problem is there, but my point is when there is so many addons (and even addons for the addon) it's the reality in Prepar3d. But at some point it worked really well with MSAA.

Anyone knows about the strange thing where P3D changing the texture setting comes from and why?

I've seen an occasional, not often, post in the LM P3D forum regarding display settings not remaining as set.
