April 2, 200620 yr actually, it appears that if you happened to switch VOZ regions, the back-up of your original splash screen gets over-written by the previous VOZ splash screen...
April 2, 200620 yr Maybe a note in this thread to inform people where the originals of the files listed below, that are overwritten by VOZ 1.1 without backup, can be found (Which FS9 CD) would help? TERRAIN.CFG in FS9 root dirctory2. STARS.DAT in FS9 root directory3. fx_waves.fx in FS9Effects4. fx_swoosh.bmp and in fx_swoosh2.bmp FS9Effectstexture
April 2, 200620 yr All I can say that VOZ guys are either too kind or crazy to release their packs for FREE ;).Leo
April 2, 200620 yr I think it has made some other changes! My LMML terminsl buildings are now in a hole in the ground some 80 feet below ground level! Is this due to changes to terrain.cfg?Any advice appreciated
April 2, 200620 yr The *ONLY* changes we made to terrain.cfg is to turn OFF waves for inland lakes and river - which do not have waves (not since I last went fishing). The mistake we made was not thinking about the fact people may have made tweaks to their terrain.cfg. As Holger has said, that's a "big blunder". It's too late for us to fix it now, since your terrain.cfg is overwritten, but I have put a clear warning notice and RTFM on the download page today. In version 1.2 of VOZ we are removing all non-texture tweaks and leaving it to the individual to play with those settings.Lesson learnt.
April 3, 200620 yr Let's keep this thing in perspective. I did my first flight using VOZ v1.1 from YPAD using the South West region textures and the view out the window was absolutely stunning, and those breaking waves are amazing and the custom textured autogen. . .superb. I've gotta say, even though I'm a great admirer of Peter Wilding's work, that the VOZ even tops Peter's. (subjective judgement only: the fS world is infinitely richer as a result of both Voz and Peter Wilding's work). What we now need is a similar installer for each continent. . . how's about Koorby?;-)

April 3, 200620 yr Horses? Stable doors? What the ....?Do you guys want us to keep making freeware of this calibre or will you insist on being smart asses and disecting every single byte of VOZ and discussing it like experts here?To say I am getting increasingly irate at some of the comments being made is an understatement.I really appreciate the effort you went to sir, to grab those two posts, timestamp them and then present me as perhpas being being malicious, untruthful, or devious in some way. I am sorry you think that we *intentionally* set out to tamper with people's oh-so-finely balanced FS installations. (Pardon the sarcasm here)Look I am sorry if some of your FS installations were affected, but frankly, 35,000 people have now downloaded VOZ 1.1 (and I assume installed it) and if 2-3 people worldwide take exception to some new little waves being added "without their permission", a splash screen inadvertently not being restored and my god, 10,000 stars now in the night sky.... LOL! Then the world really is a wonderful place isn't it, if that's all we have to worry about?Sorry, you guys are taking the hobby waaaay too seriously. I concede the terrain.cfg overwrite was a "blunder" as Holger puts it, but hey, there's nothing I can do about it now and I am sure those people running Austria Pro have since removed VOZ 1.1 and have repaired the damage we have done.Sheesh!...
April 3, 200620 yr OK guys. As the fellow who started this thread, let me ask that we end it.Koorby and all the VOZ team have produced what everyone regards as a brilliant contribution to the FS community. And they have provided it free to everyone. Their installer writes over a small handful of the user's files --Mike MacKuen
April 3, 200620 yr Sorry Koorby, didn't mean to offend you. I was just pointing out that if people went looking for their original splash screen in the backups folder it might not be there waiting for them. It's not a big deal, it's JUST a splashscreen and frankly I couldn't care less what it looks like really. VOZ is really great work though. THanks a bunch... :)
April 3, 200620 yr Moderator >Horses? Stable doors? What the ....?John, that's an old expression, that refers to the practice of locking the barn door (stable door) after the horse has already escaped... ;)I "feel your pain," though and share your frustrations at those who tend to jump in a thread and blow things way out of proportion, or offer inane, trite, and completely worthless commentary, thinking somehow that they've done a service.I'm reminded of the little boy who sits on a fence flinging rocks at grazing horses, and because they get spooked, thinks that it somehow "means something..." :)Keep your chin up, and keep up the great work! I like dem twinkly stars... nice touch. I am glad its going to be ther when I UnVoz.The only Q I have is.. since I don't believe I messed with terrain.cfg file except install a bunch of terrain data. would I have an issue with it when Unvoz. The change to the wave is fine with me too.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
April 3, 200620 yr Thanks for understanding everyone, thank you.Manny, the only changes I made to the terrain.cfg was to turn off the waves effect for inland lakes and rivers. I think you'd agree that rarely do you see large waves on lakes and rivers, with the exception of large bodies of water like Lake Michigan/Ontario etc.
