The only reason it wouldn't, is if I went over my activations. Flight1 is the exact same way. What this company is doing with the activations is no different then Fligh1. Okay, it's a little different. They don't have the resources Flight1 does, and can't afford the automation. The basics of the system is still the same though.

Thas too bad. There would be other people falling into this trap without knowing this.Manny

>All I am asking for is disclosure upfront. There is, it's on the website. ;)I actually took time to reread the activation policy, and it seems that activations are automatic based on your history of installs. That being said, I can't see a reason the normal person would have an issue with activation. Seems like it would work fine for the person who doesn't reinstall all the time.>There would be other people falling into this trap without knowing this. What trap? There is no trap, the activation feature is on the website, in nice clear wording. As I said above, most of the time it shouldn't even get in your way.

I'm not sure that any trap has been set, nor has anyone actually fallen into one.1. The policy of this developer is to limit the number of concurrent activations within a period of time that is not published for us to know.2. In order to re-activate the software, the developer needs to be notified that validation has failed during a reinstallation attempt and the purchaser wants that limit reset on activations.3. This developeer also has a standing policy that basically states that if you email their support department and don't receive an instantaneous response, they have not received your request. The next step would be to send your request through a number of free web-based email providers like hotmail or yahoo. Once the request has been acknowledged, it's generally a matter of a few hours before the activation is reset. In checking the forum of this developer, I was unable to find a single message from Quiet1 needing any help whatsoever. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?Jim Karnhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_pf.jpg

Hi All,In a nutshell I think all he wanted was to be grandfathered with a purchase he made before such said policy was in place.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

He's talking about PMDG.Bud

No Jason, you do NOT need to re-download the product if you re-install 3 times. In fact, depending on the timing of your re-installs, you may re-install many more than 3 times. Also, if you do exceed the install limit, you simply send an e-mail to support and they reset your installs. No need to re-download the product. Personally, I agree that adding a charge to re-download the product is a bit much, and I am a big supporter of this company. But get your facts straight before posting.

I agree with Jason, this appears to be introduced as an extra revenue stream, as previously PMDG replaced a downloaded product free of charge for the first year. Adam

>I agree with Jason, this appears to be introduced as an extra>revenue stream, as previously PMDG replaced a downloaded>product free of charge for the first year. >Yes, revenue to cover the added cost of bandwidth, administrative costs, etc. Seems very logical to me. L.Adamson

Some installer companies also charge the developer on a per installation/re-activiation basis. Now here's my thing: I don't mean to speak out of turn or for PMDG but: PMDG DOES STATE UP FRONT their policy on installation.Maybe it would be better if we just learned to included our costs in the product price, that way we wouldn't have to break it all down for your guys and seem like we're thieves.Instead with this internet crap we somehow feel that we have to micro organize everything and break it all down to the 'nth' degree. That's going to start changing real quick folks.IT IS NOT A PROFIT/revenue stream that some of you think. If it is then we will follow suit...lol.Why would we follow suit: to keep the morons from reformatting their PC's every 5 seconds and emailing us asking for key files, etc., ROFL. .The other thing, while I'm at: Keep your crap in your default directories. I'm seriousley thinking of locking all our stuff to the C drive from here on out. .

Keep your crap in your default directories. I'm seriousley thinking of locking all our stuff to the C drive from here on out. .I'd be concerned that doing so would turn the revenue stream into a dry creek bed.Regards,Greg

LOL--possibly, yes.The point is that you don't have to reformat every time you get a 2fps drop down from 90FPS to 70FPS in the sim. The same goes for moving stuff out of the default drive. My second point is we need to quit talking about our business to you guys and just charge 1 price and leave it at that. Our costs are really no concern of yours until we start opening ourselves up for it. Which in some cases we have. Now it's time to clean up across the board and use these forums for flight sim enjoyment rather than this BS.

>Why on gods earth, do I have to essential repay a company for>a download link that I have already given them money for a>product they offer?>> I don't want to here the crap about bandwidth and security>and time taken to reconstitute downloads and installations.>> This is the line for me. I have already given this company>over 100 bucks and yaaa for good products, but they are the>ones that offered downloadable programs as well as CDs and the>only and I mean the only reason why they are implementing this>re verification crap and download links that we have to email>their support then wait for them is because they want to make>sure there product doesn't end up on emule or as a torrent ,>which it already has so why bother. It is a huge inconvinience>for all of us who purchase products from them and ontop of>that I can't even be grandfathered into there stupid policy>since I purchased way before their extended download period. >> This is another plot to get money and it is a crock of you>know what. There is absolutely no other explanation other>then it is a way to compensate themselves for poor planning>and judgement regarding their time being spent answering the>requests of valid purchasers to resend us download links.>> It'an easy matter really, if you do not agree with the terms of purchase simply do not buy. If you live in an age where it is impossible for you to make a simple BACKUP file of your EXE file and then to cry fowl to any developer who has to spend their TIME to help you re download a product over and over again because of some inability to make a BACKUP file then perhaps you should not BUY in the first place. Make sense? Oh and this advice is FREE. ...............Randy J. Smith................
Evolution is a process that results in heritable changes in a population spread over many generations
Ah but there is a difference. You buy a cd at a shop - it doesn't stop installing after x amount of installs and then asks you to take it back to the shop to get it renewed.Where as a lot of places now ask that for downloads.I had a spate a while ago where I couldn't get my fs to work - kept crashing reinstalled, and reinstalled with the same plane as that was what I was flying then, and because I no longer had access to the email address that I bought it with, I couldn't verify I was the owner - if I wanted to continue flying that plane - I had to buy again. Now, if I reinstall windows 100 times, I can still play fs 100 times - it doesn't tell me to return the disc coz I've used it too many times.I'm very picky about my purchases now, I've got a windows that is slowing dying, and going to need a reinstall, which will mean another reinstall of fs - and the planes I use.I agree that anti piracy measures need to be in place, but from what I can tell, they have it easy - install and bang, where as I as a legitimate user have to jump through hoops to install their planes!
