I'm losing all my textures!

If you do an alt-tab, do you have any error messages? Is this an immediate thing or does it happen over time?-PaulLiquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg

Hey Ray, I read through this thread kind of quickly, but how much system ram do you have? The reason I ask is, some time ago, I thought I had a bad stick. I have 1.5 gigs dual ch. When I removed one, leaving 1 gig, I had the exact same thing happen. When I put the stick back in, all was well. With your recent addition of software, maybe your system ram is now not enough depending on the situation you have loaded? Just a quess if this helps? Also, has your system had any other issues while using flight sim? CTD's and such? I hope you can get it worked out. Have a good night.EDIT. Ray, I'm sorry, I did not see your specs in your sig. I told you I read too fast. I see 1 gig of ram. With your card I would recommend at least another 512 worth of ram. A 256meg card helps alot too in this area, if this is indeed the problem. The ram could be part of the texture loading issue. I hope this helped.

I doubt it's ram related. I've been running the sim on 768megs of pc2100 and a 128meg Geforce4Ti4200 and never have any sort of missing/dissappearing texture problems (that is, since changing the memory usage back to "programs" from "system cache" of course as I mentioned above). And I run all sorts of add-ons like UT Canada, GE2006, etc...

Hi Doug,That's interesting. I've been running with the same Omega drivers for a year now but I'll update them and see if it makes a difference. I should add that each time I switched to another livery I remained in cockpit view - not an external spot plane view.I doubt it's related to Ultimate Terrain so I will need to look at my graphics settings. I run 2X AA (the mimumum allowed) and 8X AF but apart from those settings I've left everything else untouched.I should add that I don't normally switch aircraft like this. the point of the exercise was to see if video memory was being eaten up and it looks like it is - hence the aircraft missing their textures. In normal operations I just select the aircraft and livery and then start flying so in the normal course of events this problem is never going to be repeated. I had switched aircraft several times before hitting the problem at the top of this thread.Cheers,

Hi Paul,No error messages. As you may have seen in my other replies I caused this to happen with multiple aircraft selections - not something I normally do. Under normal ops it never happens so maybe I shouldn't be concerned. I had a perfectly good flight last night and the video memory used never rose to dangerous levels.Cheers,

Hi Jeff,Another 512Mb? But memory was never in short supply. I have a few hundred Mb of free memory and the Page File is set to 1.5Gb. It was video memory that ran low and the reason for that was because I switched aircraft / liveries multiple times - not a normal action.I get no CTDs and I've only had the one 'out of memory' error caused by a faulty landclass file in Ultimate Terrain. This has now been fixed. The only time this occurred was with multiple aircraft seelctions so providing I don't do this (I only did it out of interest) the problem should never reoccur. I will update my Omega drivers though. That could help release unused video memory.Thanks.

Try assigning a key to 'Refresh Scenery' in the 'Assignments' menu unter 'Options'. When I get backed up on memory, a refresh will usually reset everything. It's worked for a couple of folks.:-)

Hey Ray, I am sorry my suggestion was not on target. It's amazing how different issues on different machines can be totally unrelated. I learned something new here about the possibility of drivers causing strange things to happen. I look forward to hearing if you get things worked out.

Hi Jeff,No need to apologise :-) I've downloaded and installed the same drivers as you but don't really notice any difference. I think that once drivers are stablised for a particular product they don't improve with new versions and as FS9 has been around for over two years we've probably got it as good as it's ging to get with Omega.I'm not going to get hung up about free memory. My test yesterday was not typical of how I fly in FS9 - it was done to prove to myself that my video memory was being chomped up but the constant switching of liveries and aircraft. With 2X AA and 16X AF FS9 has never looked so good. Time to stop testing, tweaking and all the rest and just enjoy it now that I've got rid of all the gremlins :-)Cheers.,

OK. I have read through this thread and I have had the exact same problem and I am pretty sure it's not RAM or drivers. I also get it when I switch aircraft a lot. I really noticed it after a stretch installing ai aircraft. I would leave them as flyable so I could go in to the sim to see if they were installed properly. I was only viewing them in the aircraft display -- such as flipping through all of my aardvark 747-200's for missing textures. After checking out 20 or so aircraft, the textures on all of my aircraft would no longer display. I do have ultimate terrain but I am not sure how that would change things because I am having this problem before I even start a flight. And yes, it does happen once a flight has been started as well. It seems like 3 defrags before every flight helps but this shouldn't be happening defrag or not.

Jeffrey,Download the memory utility mentioned further up this discussion and monitor your available video memory.I would suggest that after multiple aircraft loads for Ai traffic you restart FS9 which should get you back the lost video memory. It isn't related to UT - it's just FS9 and maybe certain card/drivers that don't release the memory when switching aircraft. I haven't had this problem even with long flights. Choose your aircraft at the start of a FS session and don't switch seems to be the answer.Cheers,

When out of memory and textures start disappearing, make a display reload and you're done. No need to exit and restart FS9. :)Marco

Hi Marco,Excellent tip - thank you. I have assigned CTRL+SHIFT+1 to Reload Display Driver' and using MemStatus to monitor used Video Memory it gives back quite a bit to the system. This utility is also available with the Omega drivers. It's a pity these boards don't have a star award because you would have qualified for one :-)Cheers,
