How hard is KSDF on FSX

Featured Replies

I've been thinking about FSDT KSDF, since it is their last FSX airport. I've seen zero feedback about it, so was hoping someone could help me out.

My concern is that it will be like Flightbeam's KMSP, which can OOM on the ramp, so I'm somewhat hesitant purchasing it.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ernie

I actually purchased it during the last sale a few months ago for Umbertos birthday but have not even downloaded it yet, lol.

As you may or may not know, you can download it from the product page and install it and it will run in trial mode. This will give you a chance to test it out for performance.

In my case, I wasn’t worried about performance since all their airports work well for me, so for 50% off I took a chance without even using the trial. At least I can use it for P3D whenever I get it.

Ernie, sorry I gave you the wrong info. I got KCLT not KSDF.

Trial option still stands however for you to test it out.

Thanks.. I had forgotten about the trial feature.  Will give it a try..

I grabbed CLT, MEM AND SDF yesterday during the Thanksgiving sale. Tried them all with the default ultralight, probably the least resource demanding aircraft in FSX, and my FSX settings are medium to low. Once airborne at all of the airports I experienced 1-2 second freezes about every 5-6 seconds, which is unlike anything I've ever run into with any other scenery or aircraft. There are other reports of this issue on the fsdreamteam forum.

Virtuali's suggestion to minimize the problem are:

1 - Raise the Anti-pop setting in the Addon Manager menu. Note that, you will risk Out of memory errors if you do this, but it will surely reduce pauses. [Range is 0-30, "0" is the default. You must restart FSX after changing this setting. After rebooting the sim, check to verify that your Anti-pop setting has been saved. It took me two tries before the AddOnManger retained my setting.]

2 - Disable "compensate object altitude" from the CTRL+F12 menu [When at an FSDT airport hold CTRL key and hit F12. Select, e.g. "(name of airport) settings" and you will see the "compensate object altitude" setting there.]

I did both of the above steps, setting the Anti-pop slider to 15. Flew some circuits in the ultralight around the same airports, the freezes did not reoccur, and I noticed no significant change in VAS usage. I then tried the PMDG 77F at the same airports and again noticed only about 150-200 MB increase in my typical VAS usage with PMDG aircraft, and there was no stuttering. Finally I did a 77F flight from MEM and landed at SDF with no noticeable stutters/freezes and with .9GB VAS. remaining.

No doubt if you push the Anti-pop setting to max it may have a large impact on VAS usage, but a setting of "15" fixed the problem for me without any OOM issues.

I bought KSDF in the sale and, having tried it briefly with the default Baron, I too noticed the intermittent brief freezes but VAS usage did not seem excessive.

I have to admit that I had not come across the "anti pop-up" and "compensate object altitude" settings until I read the post above. Could I ask do changes to the "anti pop-up" setting apply right across FSX or just to FSDT airports?

My understanding is that adjusting this setting adds a line to the fsx.cfg that FSX will ignore. It will only be read and used by the FSDT AddonManager so it's only relevant for FSDT sceneries. You can read more about it here

Also want to amend the bit in my post about Disable "compensate object altitude" from the CTRL+F12 menu. This option is not available at all FSDT airports.
