Martin,This problem was discussed in a thread last week I believe - search the forum. I think the problem was that the entry in the Scenery.cfg file had the scenery path as "Remote=.....", whereas it should be edited to be "Local=..."

I missed that - thanks for pointing me to a previous thread, I'll search it out. I also now find that when I go to window mode and back (when I am in an area covered by the Canaries scenery), everything (the scenery and even aircraft) can go very awry - wings floating on different planes (so to speak) from the fuselage, buildings and trees in the sky, runways suspended in thin air.... A reboot clears things up. Don't know if the thread you mention talks about this - I'll look it out after this (and post back if there are any other points).Seems as if this Canaries scenery is not without its problems, but it is just so good to look at (some of the best eye candy I've seen for months) that I shall persevere until they are sorted out ...M.

I just checked my scenery.cfg and every single entry is set to Remote= I have never modified this so what is this local= switch? Is it specific to this scenery? A little confused in NJ... -PaulAlso, you can fool FS into fixing this issue most times by copying your scenery.cfg to the desktop. COPY NOT MOVE. Now rename it OldScenery.cfg and copy it back and then rename it to NewScenery.cfg and copy that one into your root FS directory. This should FORCE fs to synch your scenery .cfg again. I bet if you check your FS9 directory you have an oldscenery.cfg and a scenery.cfg that do not match...Good luck,-PaulLiquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg

Hi Paul,I posted the original message about constant database rebuilds. You can read all about it here http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...=310357&page=14Anyway, the short answer to solving the problem is to open scenery.cfg with Notepad and edit each of the Canary Islands lines changing a reference to Remote= to Local=.I have no idea why some people were affected like this and others weren't.:-hmmmHope that helps.

I reinstalled the Canarias scenery and now the problem has gone. The Canarias entries in the scenery.cfg file all show as Local= Not sure what they were before as I reinstalled before reading the reply! (More haste, less speed!).All other entries in the scenery.cfg file however show Remote= so I assume that the 'local' setting must be OK for this scenery, and 'remote' for everything else I have.Martin

Cheers Ray, so it is specific to this scenery. Whew!!! I thought my entire scenery.cfg was wrong LOL. That's what happens when you don't sleep because of work...Thanks Ray, good catch BTW,-PaulLiquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg

Hi Martin,<>No, every scenery entry should be Local otherwise you'll have the constant rebuild each time you start FS. I suggest you download and install FS Manager which is in the AvSim library. It can sort out many problems with FS especially the scenery.cfg file. Saves loads of hand edits.Cheers,

Cheers Paul. BTW, I'm hoping to get the Dell 24" myself later in the year when FSX comes out and I build a new system. I'm very envious, FS must look fantastic on that beauty. What resolution do you run at? Native or lower and is there a big difference in frame rates between lower and native? Thanks,

Very strange Paul. Might be worthwhile seeing what the help say's about Remote=. Whatever works for you as long as others are aware of the possibility of constant builds with Remote= entries.Cheers,

Ray, I will certainly apologize if I am wrong but I think you are giving erroneous advice. If you look at a default scenery.cfg every single entry is set to remote= If you look at every add-on that gets installed they are set to remote= FSM does not see this as a problem. If you search the forums on remote= you will notice that every single user who has ever posted an excerpt from the scenery.cfg has the remote= switch in it. Are you saying that this is all wrong and everyone should change all of their entries to local= I think that is wrong but I will apologize if I am wrong. Also, I can not find anything in the FSM help file regarding remote= nor can I find anything in the FS help file regarding remote= Which help file are you referring to?Cheers,-PaulLiquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg

Hi Paul,I don't believe I am wrong for the simple reason that my scenery.cfg (the only one I have access to) has many default scenery layers that reference the entry in the Local= line, not the Remote= line. For example, all my city Aerial Photo layers have the path in the Local line and I certainly haven't changed those. When I searched the scenery.cfg for Remote= entries only the Canary Islands scenery contained those entries and once I changed them to Local the constant rebuild problem went away.I can't prove I am right and I can't prove you are wrong. I can only say what works for me. If something else works for you then fine. Others will have to decide on the available evidence. If they don't have a problem then leave well alone. If they do then make changes as I've suggested and see if it resolves the problem.<Maybe the caching option for a scenery layer makes a difference. Reading about the Scenery Library in the Learning Centre in FS9 there are no references to Local= or Remote= but my guess is that it's dependent on whether that layer is cached or not. I can see no other purpose for the Remote= line. A simple experiment should provide the answer but I'll leave that to others.Cheers,

Ray (Cheshire, England).

Ray, I am grateful for your advice, but I do think Paul is right here. I have a couple of my scenery.cfg files backed up from earlier installations (as part of Acronis image files) and all the scenery entries without execption show remote=, not local= ... and I never, ever had the problem with the scenery file rewriting itself every time I started FS9 before I installed the Canaries scenery.I couldn't say why the Canaries scenery needs local= as the correct entry and none of my other scenery does, but as it is, it all seems to be working fine, so I'm not complaining!!Martin :-)

Hi Martin,That's fine. I'm only saying what works for me. If something different works for you then I'm happy with that. I have never said that what I suggested was right or wrong - only that it works for me so I suggested it to others in case it fixed their problem.I should add that since I changed the Canary Islands entry from Remote to Local the rebuild problem has never arisen.Looks like we're all happy then :-)
