Hi Martin,My my, it's been busy over the last couple of hours whilst I've been entertaining a flight sim guest :-)Anyway, you and Paul are now agreed with me I think which is nice. Firstly though I'll comment on the several screenshots you supplied.1. You've unchecked the "Empty CD-ROM scenery on exit" option. This is a throw-back to the days when we didn't have enough HD space to install everything and had to run some scenery from the CD. So with that option unchecked it would leave files on your HD ready for next time you flew in that area. Checking it would clean everything out when you exit. These days we have so much HD space I can't imagine anyone not performing a full install of FS and if you do do that then I think FS will switch that option on by default. It will also create Local= entries for all your installed scenery.2. However, for those who install fancy 3rd party stuff like Canary Islands the developers in their wisdom have decided we shouldn't interfere with the settings so have locked us out with REQUIRED=TRUE for each of the layers. More importantly they have set the scenery up to run from a virtual CD with Remote= entries and if you have the Empty CD option set you will get a database rebuild each time you start FS. Leaving it unchecked gets round the problem of course.Looking at your Visual Flight London scenery I can see that it's installed to your HD as it should be of course. It wouldn't make sense to have a Remote= entry for it.So, after all this all I would say is that if you want to clear out your cache each time you exit FS then tick the "Empty CD" box and hand edit the SCENERY.CFG and make the following changes to the Canary Islands scenery entries...1. Cut the path from any Remote= lines and paste them into Local= lines.2. Change any REQUIRED=TRUE entries to REQUIRED=FALSE but leave the Default Scenery and Default Terrain alone. This has been very educational for me. I hope you feel the same.Cheers,

Hi Paul,Thank you very much for your good manners :-beerchug I'm sure we both had the best of intentions in trying to sort things out and it's nice that we've done it and remained on good terms.I did have to take a step back and think about things for a while because it did come as a bit of a surprise when you posted your reply to my last message which I was convinced was the correct analysis. Clearly you thought things through and came to the same conclusion as me.I always try to remain composed because if you don't then nothing is achieved and people just have a bad opinion of you. All's well that ends well :-beerchugEnjoy your flying!

Hi psolk,I guess I have to disagree with you. I believe you misunderstood him.Your scenery.cfg file is COMPLETELY compatible with what he is saying. To make it very clear, here is what you will see in your scnenery.cfg file:Set to use the layer directly:LOCAL= (path here)REMOTE=Set to cache the scenery:LOCAL=REMOTE= (path here)Since you have your FlyTampa Seattle scenery to be used directly, your LOCAL= line has a path in it (i.e. "is populated"), and your REMOTE= line is empty. Just what he said.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Didn't know I was opening such a can of worms with this thread!Well it all makes sense, but still the earlier question remains: why are my Canaries entries written into the scenery.cfg file by the setup programme as if I am caching my scenery data? Like most people here I expect, I never run anything from the CD - always a hard drive install. Maybe just a quirk of the setup in this case?M.

Hi Martin,Can of worms??? More like a oil tanker full of worms :-lol You might want to post the question on their official site. I think many here would like to know the answer.http://www.canarysim.com/forum/viewforum.p...8d08dcb35b7a795Cheers,

I think the reason they use Required=TRUE is because if you delete the area within FS, some default files may still be backed up and their uninstaller will not work correctly to re-install them.George
