"Filling in the gap".... Philadelphia area?

Featured Replies

Williamsport is amazing to fly into, sim or in real life. Air Force One actually landed there a few years back when GWB came out to the little league world series. I wish I had been there to watch it land. Guess there are more simmers in this area than I thought.Jim

I think it was these guys-http://www.maam.org/maam_sim.htmlReading is a great area, too. My wife and I went to a Pat Metheny concert there a few years ago, saw the house my grandparents built on Oak Lane... checked out the Pagoda...I've always loved PA (not that I can be wholly objective) and am kinda surprised there isn't more of it available...Andrew

I live a few miles from Slatington 69N; near Allentown. It's great to know there are simmers on Avsim near me. Yes; I would love enhanced scenery for the area. Not to change the subject; but why don't we get together on multiplayer sometime?Best Regards, Donald Traill :-waveFLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.

Slatington is certaintly an interesting airport. I was scared to death the firt time my instructor took me there. I like it there now though. I love heading straight for the ridge on the downwind for 19.Tim

I love the noise abatement procedures for 19 departures- follow the river till 1200' MSL. This guarantees that aircraft departing North almost circle my house. I get a good looksee either way. The biggest plane based there that I know of is a Beechcraft Volpar. I nominated Slatington for the Dangerous Airports Database. That ridge is a great waypoint; I came back from KWWD (Cape May) in the J-3 Cub with nary a look at the GPS or map.P.S. Anybody Interested in getting together sometime on multiplayer in the area?Best Regards; Donald Traill :-waveFLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.

yeah, that sign says "follow the river" doesn't it? haha. That ridge certaintly is a good checkpoint. I must have flown over your house a couple times. :) I would definitely be up for doing some online flying in our area, as long as we stay away from Queen City!! I do a lot of flying to Arner Memorial.Tim

Haha, actually I haven't been to Queen City in FS. I like to stay away from it in real flying because it seems everytime I go there, it's swarming with traffic.Tim

The only safety issue with Queen City is due to its proximity to KABE. Since even the runway headings are close; sometimes planes land there by mistake even though the runways are much shorter.Best Regards, Donald Traill:-waveFLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.

Arner is a nice spot; VASI comes in handy. I sent you a PM with contact info; let's get together sometime.FLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.

Anyone hear of a project to make KPHL scenery for FS9 and FSX? Sure would love to see that happen FlyTampa!

I live near Pottstown and have Sim Flyer's KPHL installed with FS9. It is a notorious frame rate eater and would likely destroy any computer on the planet in FSX. For some reason (as luck would have it) the Philadelphia downtown auto-gen is the biggest drag on my system besides Manhattan. I would also encourage Fly Tampa to tackle KPHL. I use FS genesis mesh along with ultimate terrain flying around Reading and it is pretty good. Frame rates are affected, but the FSD Seneca plugs nicely along. Anything larger (ATR or LDS767) and I have to disable UT and load a comparable FS98 scenery config file. LOL.Bob...

I'm in search of the Philadelphia, tri-state area, too. There used to be some small add-on for WingsField for FS9.
