Ucrtbase.dll CTD

Featured Replies

Hi,

the Sim is P3D V4.1 on Win10 Home (without the latest Meltdown patches as I have disabled WIndows update) and the aircraft is the PMDG 747 with all the latest micro updates applied. Everything has been working flawlessly until two days ago, but then all of a sudden I am experiencing this problem: when I launch a flight at an addon airport, it loads everything correctly and then it starts the initializtion of the airplane, and the green bar with the seconds counter appears on top of the screen. Exactly two seconds after it starts, the green bar disappears and the initialization stops. The Sim menu is still functional and if I quit the Sim, the Sim has a CTD with a "ucrtbase.dll module fault" (as reported by appcrashview). It is not a PMDG specific problem, as it happens also on other complex addon aircraft, but the reason I am reporting here is to understand what happens on the PMDG 747 at 2 or 3 seconds into the inizialization of the plane in order to have a clue on how to fix this issue. I have googled "ucrtbase.dll ctd" and it appears that it is something related to Microsoft Visual C++, but I have gone through the reinstallation of them and nothing has changed.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide

edit: if I a load a previously saved flight everything initialises correctly and the sim runs flawlessly, but then it CTD upon exit (for the same ucrtbase.dll fault)

Kyle,

thanks, but the Avsim CTD guide was the first thing I looked and followed when the problem started and unfortunately I had no luck with it.

Just let me ask you this: what would change from a PMDG software standpoint between loading a previously saved flight and loading a C&D cockpit ? Because the weird thing is that I can load a saved flight at FL330 but I cannot load a cold and dark airplane at a gate, as the initialization stops a couple of seconds after it starts. In this case however I have a CTD when quitting the Sim.

Thanks

I recommend the first place you look when you get a ucrtbase.dll error is in your addon xml files.  Any error in xml will often result in this type of error, look for the obvious error then look again for the not so obvious such as extra spaces after the </...> close tag marks.  I use EditPad Pro for editing xml  (and all types of text based files), it has a nice feature in that the marks are highlighted green if there are no syntax errors and red otherwise.

Hi Ezio,

most ctd of P4.1 pointing to .dll files seem to happen due to incompatible addons being installed into the sim and using 32bit code. And most of them are scenery. Unfortunately there are one or two major scenery developers (and I definitely take orbx out of the equation on this) that seem to be word not allowed enough not to care about the effect of their scenery which they claim to be native P3D4.1. So maybe go through your addons and deactivate and reactivate them until you find the culprit...

Marc,

thanks....this is the next step I am going to go through....even if it sounds strange that all of a sudden, without any new scenery being installed I have started having this problem. However, it must be something related to scenery because if I load any addon aircraft on any default airport I don't have the problem, or to be more precise, the aircraft initializes and I can fly with no issues (the sim crash only on exit) but loading the same aircraft on most of the addon airports, the intialization freezes after 2 or 3 seconds and nothing else happens, until I exit the Sim, which caused the Sim to CTD. This is the reason why I initially posted on this forum, as I wanted to understand what happens during the initialization process of the PMDG aircraft that can create conflict with other processes going on in P3D (for sure this is not a PMDG related issue, as the problem occurs also with other non PMDG addon aircraft). And also why the problem doesn't occur if I load a previously saved flight..?..what's the difference between this and a C&D load at a gate with respect to the issue I am having ?.....Is it because this happens far away from any addon airports so, if the problem is scenery related it cannot show up ?

This is really weird, and I fear I will have to make a fresh install of everything which will not make me happy, because I will never know what is causing the problem and so it might reoccur again...

Again, let me recommend that you review the add-on.xml files for errors.

Ezio (full names please), you do not need to be near an addon airport for the addon to cause a problem.  When P3D starts it reads all add-on files from the multiple locations they can be loaded to build a 'dictionary' of scenery.  The PMDG initialization process has nothing to do with the core processes of P3D, rather this is how PMDG creates the initialized state of the aircraft,  It has nothing to do with scenery.

Doing a fresh install will probably introduce new errors. You should try to troubleshoot the problem in a methodical manner.

Hi Ezio,

any chance you have FSL A320 installed?

I had CTDs upon exit from flight sim but only with PMDG 747 loaded and it was ucrtbase.dll module in the log.

If you have FSL A320 installed try to switch off it temporarily from Options - Add-ons menu. For me this solved my issue.

Thanks. I'm going to follow this advice as I'm experiencing the same issue on exit from P3D and with 747 only
