June 1, 200620 yr Hi all-I'm sure there are lots of reasons for this, but I've installed FS 2k4 on a machine and it drops back to the desktop after the splashscreen. (Actually, the screen goes black and I can see my mouse, but then it goes to the desktop.)The system is an Athlon 800 and with a Sound Blaster Live value audio card and a BFGtech GeForce 6200.All drivers (including Windows Update) are current.Any thoughts appreciated!thxAndrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g

June 1, 200620 yr Hi Jim - Thanks for the advice.I'll try that, but note that the card with updated drivers worked fine in a different machine, and works fine with 3d tests..thxAndrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
June 2, 200620 yr The problem may be something you added lately.....if so..look for the .dll file in modules..related to the latest addon...this may help.Remove and/or save the .dll and try re-boot of fs9Have fun!Mike
June 2, 200620 yr Hi Mike - Thanks for the advice... I haven't done that before, so I'm not sure what to look for - just a .dll in the FS directory? Also, the computer was given to me with a few things installed. I added the video card.I'll probably uninstall some of the stuff that came installed anyway, but FS was the only thing I've installed besides 3Dmark, which was installed after FS to test the video card.cheersAndrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
June 2, 200620 yr To clarify:there are no FS addons, just some other software which are mainly things like FTP utilities, Windows Media Player, etc.I looked in the FS folder and MAN there are a lot of DLLs. I wouldn't know where to start..thxAndrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
June 2, 200620 yr Try deleting the fs9.cfg and letting FS rebuild it. It is a long shot with what you are experiencing but it cant hurt to have a vanilla .cfg,-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
June 2, 200620 yr Thanks Paul,Well, this is interesting..I don't -have- an fs9.cfg file to be found!Hmmm.... I guessing there should be one in there somehwere?The weird thing is that there is an fs2000.cfg file. And an fs2000 application. I guess that's supposed to be in there.Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g

June 2, 200620 yr Hi Andrew,(a) The folder the file's in is hidden, so you'll have to configure Explorer to show hidden files. When you've done this,(:( Look in c:Documents and Settings(username)Application DataMicrosoftFS9Alastair

June 2, 200620 yr HIhttp://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;Have you had a look here. I had a similar problem about a week ago and discovered the problem was a duplicate .dll in the System32 folder and the FS9 modules folder. Regretfully I cannot remember the dll even when trying to refresh my memory looking through the System32 list of dll's. Good luckGary
June 2, 200620 yr Commercial Member i had the exact same problemi had to edit the fs9.cfg file, and change show_opening_screen from 1 to 0did you just install ie 7 beta 2?i think you also have to delete the a dll in the modules directory after installing the ie 7 beta 2. it is supposedly documented in the ie 7 beta 2 readme filejd JD Read my blog
