It’s not as if Carenado are about to make changes to their universal FMC despite having been asked politely. In fact, they’ve not responded favourably to tickets raised on the subject.

I don’t even believe that they have ever used their own UFMC in earnest otherwise they’d know how bad it really is.

I’m afraid that my opinion of Carenado products is the same as my opinion of the people behind them, and that is that they are no deeper than veneer.

Rather than continue to receive PM’s all asking for the same information, I’ll instead post the instructions here. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing this, though I’m sure the mods will act accordingly if there is.

Whilst you won’t be altering the original Carenado FMCF50.CAB & FMCSF34.CAB files, it might still be wise to backup them up.

THIS MOD WILL NOT CHANGE HOW WELL THE F50 UFMC WORKS - IT WILL ONLY ALLOW YOU TO ENTER ADVISORY ALTITUDE'S.

Create a folder called FMCF50, then double click the FMCSF34.CAB file to open it, select all files and then copy and paste these into your new folder.

Double click the FMCF50.CAB file, highlight the FMC_configF50.XML file, and copy and paste it into your FMCF50 folder.

Move your FMCF50 folder into your ..\Carenado F50\panel folder.

Fire up your sim; the F50 will now read the new hybrid FMCF50 folder rather than the FMCF50.CAB file.

That’s it!

The rules for FSX and P3DV4 are different... FSX looks in the panel folder first, P3DV4 looks in the Gauges folder first.  Just to make sure the cab file is not used any more, you can rename the original  FMCF50.CAB file to  FMCF50.CAB.off as an additional step.

Thank you, good advice, and something that I didn’t know.

Indeed, by now Carenado have set our expectation levels, thus there can be no surprises...

I think ultimately at the end of the day Carenado need to be boycotted by people, who should vote with their wallets and refuse to buy them until they improve fundamental elements of their systems.

After all, charging £40 for a typical aircraft is ridiculous when you consider that they are only one level above default /vanilla aircraft.

If A2A can charge less than £35 for one of their aircraft, Carenado charging £40 for the Saab should at least produce a reasonably good quality FMS. BUT....  but the only way Carenao will understand this, is if people STOP buying their products.... but they don't - they CONTINUE to buy them, 'as is', and so Carenado continue to provide them... 'as is'.

Have heard this for 10 years and it doesn't happen. Like getting farmers to agree on something. 🙂

Which one?  Didn't find anything cheaper than 50$ on the A2A webpage (for FSX or P3D) and the Saab on the Carenado  webpage is 45$ (for FSX and P3D).

Each to his own of course. I always buy direct from the developers to support them.

The most accurate emulation of the Universal UNS-1 is the one found in the Majestic Q400. That one is a work of art.

I assume that their implementation is coded to work only with their own highly-customized flight model, but if the company ever decided to create a version that could be used with more generic FSX/P3D aircraft, I’ll bet it would sell very well.

The ISG SimAvionics gauges are pretty good, though not at a Majestic level.

Not really, sorry.

I use the ISG UFMC and EFIS as 2D and simply pop the AP in HDG mode

Has anyone just filed /A and flown the SAAB with the Nav AIDS?  Trying all the workarounds on the current FMS is a bit much and even  though adding the GTN is nice I was trying to keep the config pretty original...
